Thank you for sharing the video! People here love the country and the peaceful life. We don't want to change the world, we just want to live a happy life. Many chinese people cannot present their true idea fluently by foreign languages. It's quite a great method to show the country by vlog films without polical comments. People all over the world will watch your films and learn the country by eyes and ears, instead of comments. Thanks a lot for bridging the west and china!

I have studied under west education for more than 5 years, and I think I know how the west countries work and in my point of view, China doesn't have to become a democratic country like some western countries. The west always thinks their political system is the only and best system in the world but I think the best politic system is the system which can fit the country very well. Chinese culture and western culture is completely different how can westerners suppose that their system is suitable to China as well? And the even worse thing is that, when we don't choose democracy, they think our system is evil, our country is evil, even our people are evil. In my opinion, democracy should be the system that respects everyone decisions, but when they talk about China, there are no respect but hatred, why is that?

Fully agree. Democracy, Democratic, Communism, Communists, Dictatorships, Empires, Emperors, Colonial Powers, ...are tried and tired. We should have humanity, peace, prosperity, unified progress and success. No wars, riots, self destructive protests, self promoting idealogies, worst; Dictatorships in its worst forms.
Luckily, parts of this Earth have made progressed through the centuries with improvements, discoveries, and widened, deepened modern achievements.
      Good living for all.

I don't want China to become a democracy. Democracy is one person, one vote. It seems fair, but ordinary people don't know politics at all. People vote only for their own interests. A president elected in this way may not be the best. Trump is an example, and even more incredible is that Ukraine chose a comedian with no political experience as its president. I can't imagine China becoming that way. The second drawback of democratic system is that when they become president, they often think about how to re-election, rarely think about how to make their own people better off. Maybe sometimes they want to do well, but they can't let it go, because they are afraid of causing people's dissatisfaction and the support rate drops

In democracy, the losing party will spend the next 4 - 5 years to make sure the ruling party don't do anything good for the people and the country, so the losing party will win in the next election.

We need more content like this about China. The unscripted dialogue at the end was so raw and authentic; as a Canadian born Chinese it makes me want to re-visit China again - as I haven't been back in almost ten years - and re-discover its history while at the same time seeing with my own eyes the continued modernization of China. maybe I can tell you, some things about your question: why Chinese don't care about Democratic ( vote )? Because most of them should care about firstly a basic life. ( food, house, education, medication.... ) then the second needs, freedom, politic... And so on. //// and some of the Chinese study aboard. In the USA, EU. ... They find, that the west country was not the fantastic land as their original wished. So some of them will think about, what is a democrat? It gives people the right to chose their own government / but it will bring to a better life? Most of the citizen's choice is the really correct choice? Politicians will operate the voting or not? / why are there also many homeless and poor guys in rich countries? What makes it happens ( rich and poor ) why Democratic countries make also a war on the other's land? .... /// we love peace, love family, love to help each other, We are the same kind people as the others. We are not the cheeks / Devil/fool brainwashed... as west media described. Peace ✌️

Can’t agree more. China has a long history of more than 5000 years. And had come into civilization much earlier than western world. As an old wise man, he do not need a unenlightened young man to tell him what to do and how to handle his life.
China had find a different but suitable way in practice and is developing well since the last thirty years.

China is a country with democracy, but it's just different from western democracy. We hand over the decision-making power of the country to some wise and experienced politicians, let the people live a better life-- Isn't this the biggest wish of ordinary people? Westerners always accuse China of being authoritarian and undemocratic ,but what I want them to focus on are good governance and bad governance. No one will oppose a government that makes people live a better life.

Most countries still got China wrong after all these years. Martin Jacques's book/video When China Rules the World will explain why the government in China is viewed differently by the people (started from ancient time) and enjoy a much higher legitimacy compared to a democratic government. While most people worldwide only focus on democracy(one man one vote), they had forgotten a much more important factor which is MERITOCRACY. China select their political leaders based on a strict meritocratic system. They have to undergo strict test and examinations and need to serve levels of administration (village, town, city, province) with proven track record before being promoted to line of top leaderships in the country. To me, this is harnessing the talent through meritocracy and I call it leadership with real qualities and experiences. In another words, they have been proven that they are really fit to govern.
Whereas in some democratic countries, a person who lack experiences could rise through populism and all he need is some charisma and some debating skills which could impress the future voters. An expert once said, China political system is about LEADERSHIP while many democratic political system is about SHOWMANSHIP.

Chinese people are not ignorant and brainwashed, we simply trust our government. People will not follow a cruel dictator, but most people will follow a good leader, which is President Xi. We cannot just elect a government and expect them to do everything, but instead the whole community should work together, the people, the private sectors, and also the government, and this is what is happening in China right now.

I been to Europe, I studied in New York and spent 1 year in NYC and 1 year travel around America, my sister she's a Canadian citizen and I spent time there too, trust me, western democracy system is failing their people. So far the best system is china system, which is half capitalism and half communism. Just look at the city and the people, I remember when I'm in Europe, I saw so many homeless and beggers, and the street is so not safe. Look at NYC, look at the public facility, look at the street, you will see so many crazy people, and my Ex GF she's from South dakota, watertown, I been there, look at those minority, the Native American, the a sad and depressing place. "Democratic" in Chinese literally means "People is the boss". The ancient Chinese/Vietnamese/ Japanese/Korean philosophy: The Monarch in the past or the Government now, & the People each must fulfill their duty of the Divine order in the past, or honour their side of the social contract now:
To the government: 國 以 民 為 本 must take the well-being of the People as a foundation (for judgement, policies ...).
To the people: 民以食为天 filling up their stomachs is a divine satisfying.
That's why at the minute 12.35 when you guys discussed of Democratic, the Chinese don't give a sh** of politics, doesn't mean they look down the political figures. If the people stomachs are full, better still they are healthy & wealthy, they will hold the political party in high respect, even revere them. The same trait to VNmese. Sun Tzu said, if the war prolonged, the national resources depleted the landlords will rebel, the court will be collapsed.
Thus, it doesn't whateverism as long as the People live improved that ism is good. Perhaps, Mao zidong or Zhou unlai said I don't care if the cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice.
Or, I don't care Capitalism or Communism as long as my people are healthy, & better, wealthy.

China's continuous improvement is being driven by many forces, personally, I believe the haters are included in those forces.
being the underdog for many decades, China and its people have the will and eager to prove the haters wrong.
haters actually give the motivation for Chinese to work harder and live better and generally be better.
being a Chinese, my biggest concern is that if my people can see beyond hatred, to develop in a world full of hatred but not contaminated by hatred.
"grow up to become the one you once despised" is the worst nightmare come true.
haters gonna hate and this is why they are the least important thing in the wolrd. who we are to become and if we can be better are more important questions.

14:15 Years back if someone ask me are you proud to be Chinese and why, I'd think it's a question that doesn't make sense. I was born to be it, I can't choose what to be, I didn't earn it, what's to be proud of? Now you ask me the same question and if i have to answer, I'd say I'm proud cuz China rise peacefully in recent 20 years, and I'm proud that Chinese is a hardworking nation. I've grown to appreciate the culture and history of my people. I've learned to feel grateful for the change that happened in recent 20 years and not take things for granted.

But you are the one that are more down to the earth, having first contact with strangers, showing your first feeling and thoughts, and very importantly, being an observer without much prejudice. It feels real, yes, I think real is the best one word summary of the feeling I get. Thumbs up! Hopefully one day when I go back China and visit Chongqing (or any other places) I can have the chance to meet you guys in person.

The communal Chinese Dream on the personal level is to live a comfortable life without worrying about making a living nor safety. I think it's very much the same as all the people on earth. On a national level, the dream is to build a society that is rich, strong, and democratic for its citizens.

Really like the last part when you guys asked that question. Many ppl have forgotten or chose to ignore the purpose of Democracy but focus too much on the format ... also many don’t know China has the largest parliament in which you can find many other political parties than CCP and many independent representatives. They vote on all important decisions. The system for sure has room to improve (it has and continuously evolving) but to demonize CCP or communism is the way to secure their own system in many western countries in my view. Generalization, double-standard and bias are everywhere on the mainstream media...that’s why we NEED people like you who travel around the world and bring back different perspectives! Thank you!

Democracy or not is more of a philosophical question than a political one. People with different backgrounds naturally come to different conclusions to the same question of democracy. It is fair to say that every citizen of the world wants to live in peace with the neighbors and goes home to see his or her family everyday. Therefore, it is natural for people to embrace whichever system that brings them that peace of mind. It’s never been a rival between different political systems throughout human history, but a real struggle between the haves and have-nots. Moving forward, we should drop the differences, improve human lives together, and respect each other more, a lot more.

Well done Alex and Yulia! Such a wonderful vlog for hanging out with the ordinary people in Chongqing. Talking about Chinese dream and political topics, I seem to have so much I want to say as an overseas Chinese. Basically I think the political system now in China probably fits China better than the western style democracy. It's certainly not perfect and get a lot of things to improve. But in general it worked well and has been proved by last 4 decades. Chinese people actually still have a lot of freedoms in their daily life except for voting and internet. For now China needs to focus on its development under a strong govt. Western style democracy will probably just throws China into civil war when you think about 1.4 billion people without one day of democracy in its history. It would be very hard to control if things got messy during the changing period. ALMOST all third world countries got into lots of trouble when they tried to implement western democracy (just take a look at India, Pakistan, Philippine, and all those south American and African countries just to give a few). I think China can wait ...

As a Vietnamese I've read English books perhaps better than mediocre year 12 students in US or UK. We're the children of Confucius, yet we have some dispute in the East Sea, but I'd attribute that to the US aggressive behaviour than the Chinese. Besides, Confucius is not merely a Chinese figure, He is 1 of the greatest Men of the world in all time.
Like that Chinese couple, when travel around the world their love for China get deeper. The more I live & work & pay tax oversea the more I'm proud of my oriental heritage.

People in China are sharing a common social ideology that is quite different from the West. With thousands years history, Chinese people have experienced too many kinds of governments and rulers, no matter they are cruel or kind, weak or powerful, feudalistic capitalist or socialist. They have the deepest understanding about how to make a good life in different eras. Compared to speech freedom and right to vote, most of Chinese people believe that the financial freedom is much more important to the improvement of their life quality. They deeply know that politics are really dirty and people are always brainwashed by the media and propaganda no matter whether you are in a democratic country or not. Democracy can also be a tool used by the powerful people to rule the majority. So definitely democracy is not a positive word but a neutral word in China.

, I would say China has few thousand years of great civilization, we are proud to be Chinese ☺. No system is a 100% perfect system! China now is adapting a Capitalism system and I think this system suits them well. Some countries, if u digged into history, they cannot be made democratic...as it will only separate them into different states and countries...for example, in China history, there were never ending wars. Few thousand years all about war and conquering with warlords craving for more power. So my pick is...the current system is the correct one for China! (1111).

People need to understand that China with huge populations just suffered from politics fights, poverties ,and hungers. The priority is to bring people out from poverty and give them dignity, which was done perfectly by the current government. Even though, it is a non-democratic government, it doesn't make it bad and evil. Although, there are numerous problem exists in the government, people would make their choice of sacrifice part of their freedom for letting government to execute their development plan. In other word, country like China need this type of government. The best example would be India. India is the largest democratic country in the world but their many of their people are suffering from poverty which was caused by the rich. They went top of their government and reducing their tax. So, please be mindful that Chinese government has been changing a lot or they would ended up like Soviet Union.
