I won't lie to you, at first, and I mean like last two months, I hated this toturial cause I couldn't get it, but now that I have more experience, I can finally get it and I'm really having fun learning it. At the beginning I was blaming Justin because he wasn't writing down up down up, but he was teaching it like he should, I wasn't getting it cause the most channel make you take a bad habit like down up down
A neat trick for this one is to place a capo on the 1st fret. Use the open E chord shape in place of the F Bar to give your hand that little break. If you want to switch it up you can play the F at Fret 9.
Finaly did this, after 10 months of playing guitar. I have tried this song before but the rhythm was quite a pain and that A shaped C chord seemed impossible at that point. What helped me is playing the rhythm slowly with a metronome (60-70-80-90) and always keep that right hand moving and tapping foot on 1-2-3-4 beat only. And of course follow Justinguitar intermediate course.
1:50: So true! I worked on this and had to put it aside! Man the strumming is a killer, I tell you 😭. But I'll go back to it. Awesome Selina! Thanks for this performance!
Thanks Justin! The vast majority of what I have learned is all thanks to you! Just wish I had the extra money to buy the paid portion on the app again. This song has always stuck out to me even though it was overplayed on the radio in the early 2000’s! Just love the sound!
Congrats, Justin, I checked about 5 or 6 lessons for this song, and you're the only one that got the intro correct! Minor point though, the Bb chord in the verse is a Bb7 (I checked a Natalie Imbruglia live version, can definitely hear the 7th). Also, really nice duet! (Oh, I see others have already commented about the 7th in the Bb chord, sorry to be redundant!)
As i know, originally this is Ednaswap - "Torn", alternative rock song. And it sounds 1000 times better than Natalia's version. Lady from video sings beautiful too.
You can play this with less bar chords. I play without a pick. This gives me the option to use open chords and mute them with your strumming hand. It works extra well , when you play the song in a band. Everything else is covered. And it sounds good.
Justin sings well when the songs are in his vocal range. He's not a bad singer at all. If you are just a performer who sings you need to limit yourself to songs in your comfortable vocal range, but if you wanna be a good guitar teacher you have to branch out a lot more for your diverse students. So, yes, it's nice that he has a girl singer for higher songs. But if you're saying he's a bad singer, you don't know what you're talking about.
Great strumming pattern, your good guitar playing, the ladies good voice has really brought the song to life, really inspired me, thank you for that,David
She had an awesome voice And you gave her an awesome accompaniment. It made me cry. And I am a guy. (Onset of dementia or else I’m just a very emotional dude like I’ve always been.) Anyway, that song always moves me. That “hook” melody and some of the lyrics are so brilliant IMO like “I’m all out of faith/this is how I feel and “illusion never changed into something real”. I don’t know …those lyrics really get to me. I realize this song was written from the perspective of a woman about a relationship but still….. What can I say?
By the way, this song is fairly easy, I don't even need the lesson to get this, just looking at him is all it needs ^^ Anyway, great teaching as always!
For everyone who (like me) didn‘t know yet, that Natalie imbruglias Version of this Song was actually a cover - check out the original version : it‘s from „ednaswap“ and has totally different vibes
dude! vyou have over a million subs?! You deserve that...because you sincerely care about us dweebs....I think you had like4 200,000 last time I checked in...and my day of discovering..you had 22,000.
Thanks Justin, top quality and top song as ever. I just need to come back in a few months when I can play a barre cord better. You make it look so easy.
Her name is Anne Previn. The band was Edna Swap. And yes, I remember them going on Stern and performing it many, many years ago. At the time Howard was OBSESSED with the song.😆
i'd love to hear Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield as you playing/teaching the song on guitar and Salena singing, because it's a nice tune and it'd fit her beautiful voice. anyway you're Awesome! keep on teaching! Thx!

Thanks! It really helps ❤
Excellent comment on relaxing the bar chord hand. It can quickly get cramped clinching it as many tend to do.
When I'm looking for a guitar lesson on a particular song and find out Justin has done one, I know I'm good :) Thanks again !
strumming pattern dudu dxxu xuxu dxxx
I'm pretty sure he's covered every song ever written lol

As a beginner like me, who just comes into bar chords, this is a great song to practice and master it!
10 years later, how is your playing? Have you mastered barre chords
@@KAMOYA17 yes, I actually mastered it quite some time ago 😁

her voice OMGGGGGGGG INLOVE

As usual awesome work Justin.Who is your vocalist and is there any other uploads of her in action ? Ty Sir
От души ! респект !
Voice 😀
Bit like Jim Jeffery's " we're at the football" lol! Epic
Good job. p.s. the 3rd chord in the verse should be Bb7, not Bb maj. It's subtle, but makes a difference ;)
Hi did you know the original TORN- is by EDNA SWAP I've only just discovered this! thankyou for the lesson! all the best! :-)
I heard her (Edna Swap) do a great version of this song on Howard Stern, years ago.
Thx!
