Turns out this can be a common problem with the mustangs as the resistor gets too hot and melts connections.
*Post Update: The problem occurred again after 2weeks. So I did the same fix in this vid until it did it again a week later!!

My dude! I live in Tucson, Arizona and the exact same thing just happened to me. I was absolutely freaking out because the car was getting extremely hot and well. After watching your video you helped me to not only do a temporary fix but you order the replacement part and I cannot think you enough for saving my 2012 engine lol

Ford does sell a repair kit because it’s such a common issue. You just have to cut off the old plug and splice in the new one. Had to do it on mine a few months back. Super easy, also bought the GT500 fan at the same time to help keep the temps lower

I had this problem 2 days ago and went to many mechanic and they want me to replace the whole fan, and they asked for 400 dollars for that.
But when I see your video I decide to try what you explain, I bought that spray and disconnect the plug, I clean it and I tried after that and fan is working well know.

Bet this is my issue! Appreciate the knowledge and im following so i can steadily watch your stuff. Beautiful car! I have a 2011 gt, also Kona Blue that the fans have become iffy lately and I am almost positive this is it. I temporarily fixed it with the relays and now i need to move the coolant tank and do what you did or maybe replace that harness. Great video and filming!

Yeah I'm doing the same to mine. I bought a new fan when I didn't have to. That was my second fan within a year. I'm gonna do mine the way you did yours this time

Man my car is still in the shop since then. I had a lot of mods put on it and I still haven't gotten my car back. It's been over 15 months going on 16. I will never take my car back to that guy ever. They said they fixed it and it didn't run hot so I'll see for sure after I get it back
I’ll have to try this. Never had smoke but in Dec 2022 overheated to 270, had radiator leak. Was still losing coolant (and was smelling it) so just did water pump, t-stat, top hose and tee, had a small crack and some weeping. Now I think system is sealed but today got up to almost 260 and seems like fan is intermittent. Also when I restarted after sitting the AC didn’t start cooling down until I was moving. 2014 GT Track Pack

@@Tdurrgt I replaced the connector/pigtail and decided to install the GT500 fan. Only one connection looked bad, my 'cleanup' of it only lasted a couple of days. Running good not, 195-205 range maybe a little higher on some of the really hot & humid PA days.

A day ago my car started smoking &&’ as any person would I got scared- &&’ at first I thought it was my thermostat so I put that in brand new- but then I noticed my engine fan not turning on- I’m having a hard time figuring out what it is- hopefully this video helps me out- appreciate it

@@angeljennings3317 For a few weeks it worked, then the wiring failed again. Then I did this again and it worked for another week until the fans didn’t kick on again..So basically this is the problem & you can temporarily fix it, but I’m making another video on a new resistor install soon

I replaced my connector in 2018 and it failed again today. The factory fan and connector went 71k miles the car now has 128k and it did it again. I’m thinking there is a design flaw, I may have to replace the fan every 4 years or 50k miles. I daily drive, live in the desert and have a supercharger on my 5.0.

Yep. However, go ahead and buy that pigtail & simply just re wire it back in. I just did that a few weeks ago actually. Very simple if you ever spliced a few wires and re-wired.

I've looked everywhere and haven't found a solution to find out how the connector that you showed that was burned I need to find the way the wires go on it because mine completely burned to the wires and I had to replace the harness but it's all black so I have no idea how it's wired up if you have a chance I'd really appreciate if you could take a picture for me thank you and have a good
Hello all I had a overheating issue my pig tails where not burned yet.. I've seen others say that this is all a issue with the fan goin out, so I replaced fan so far so good fyi they should kick on around 208°
My pigtail is not burned, but my fan went out. How's your fan holding up without the pigtail?

I have a 1995 GT 5.0 mustang and my fan is not turning on,so the car is heating up, and mechanic , said they don’t make the part anymore..the mechanic said is a module sensor,that turns on the fan.I wonder where can I get one? Help please!
I’m unsure on that car. Hopefully you configure that! Best bet I’d say to call a mustang specialist shop near you if you haven’t already.
I have a 2014 mustang gt and same problem happened to me and tried the same thing and my pigtail was burnt bad AF lol and nothing the fan didn’t kick in so I just order a new one and a new radiator fan hopefully that fixes it

When it over heated, did it shut off on you? Mine went all the way to H. Left my buddy in the car with the AC on while I was in the store. Motor sounds fine tho
Turn the heat on if anything all the way upp. If I can remember, I’m not too sure if it cut off on me. I don’t think so. It started smoking tho
Put wd40 I clean connector but I replace the fan as well connector on the fan was burnout as well
I direct wired and welded it together and heat shrinked it no harness needed lasts longer
You can do that or you might as well get get a new harness 🤷🏽♂️ I ended up getting a new harness. Yet to make a video on it but it’s as simple as you just said.
How did you get resistor out

I don’t. I was gonna do one until I totaled this mustang. I bought another mustang. But the install is simple and can be found on TH-cam too. Or if you know how to simply wire, it’s easy.
Mines kinda doing the same bro my sc also stopped working if I’m at idle like it’ll only blow cold if I’m moving idk if that’s a symptom of the fans not working but any advice would be greatly appreciated

2005 mustang GT, mine overheats, fans are working but still over heats, ill check that relay resistor connected to radiator to see if its melted, but when i run it, a/c works when turned on, when turned off fan still works on radiator, but just at idle after 10 min it starts to over heat and fan still on
You likely have a burned wire going to the high speed fan relay in the engine fuse box. Common problem and I think it’s caused by the fan resistor design as Ford changed the resistor design. Loosen the 4 bolts in the fuse box. They don’t come out but once they are loose enough you can lift up on the fuse section to remove it. Then look at the connectors underneath. I think it’s the 2nd connector to the right of the battery side. You will see it melted on the plastic and the purple/green wire going to it.
I found my harness all melted and burnt as well. Did you also change the fan or just the harness and connector??

Why is it so hard to find a cylinder head temperatur sensor Ford Mustang?
I was able to get one from autozone for $50
Hopefully this solves my issue just overheated and coolant reservoir started to smoke and bubble my fans ain’t kicking in when the ac is on
I ordered another pigtail and my car does not overheat anymore. However, this quick fix helps also. Plus, if you are on the highway going at high speed, you should be fine. At city speeds sometimes you may experience over heating
also check your ccrm relay. should be on the passenger side above your front tire under the fender
Dude I was boosting off my bmw x5 and smoke started coming from in front of the radiator
If fan comes on with AC on but not with AC off is this still needed?
You may not have this melted connection then. You can still check as it isn’t that hard. However, I have finally fixed this problem by ordering another pigtail and re-wiring ✅
It happened to my Mustang 2014 4GT over 174000 miles I had new fan ford racing new radiator new hoses Replace that same unit Relay switch Also replace the coolant sensor looks like a brass piece but that solved the problem fans weren't kicking on car was overheating Relay sensor was around 30, 50 bucks

Same thing currently happening to my 09 gt with all the white smoke as well I checked the harness and it was toast just like the one on the vid hoping that’s my only issue

My fan has been bugging too, it stops working when i turn on the ac 🥲
My ac isn’t blowing cold. Might need a recharger or something. Try this method out tho. Only 15min to do about

Just sayin, this was the exact problem I had with my s197 5.0.
It would really be useful to see where you pulled the connector from. You kind of missed step 1 of the process.
It’s on the passenger side of the radiator
I thought normal cylinder head temp was from 190- 220?
It is man he’s tripping especially for the tracc pacc
No 5.0 is running less than 200 ESPECIALLY during the summer

This is a temporary fix, but yes it did. So then I just purchased a replacement

That happened to me too like a month ago those cars is nothing but problems 2014 5.0
I hate they pray on me !! I know this is easy fix but I'm gonna go waiting iver a week to drop it off and they are gonna make me wait forever (a week.plus) to make me worry and pay$$$$
It’s a very easy fix. I meant to still put out a video on how I did it but it’s straight forward.
Literally just order the part, strip the plastic slightly for enough room to re-wire with some wire cutters, sharp pliers or to the best of ones knowledge of stripping wire. Put the butt connectors that come with the part over the wiring and then heat wrap with a lighter is what I did. Or you can solder. Done ✅
Purchase some slightly bigger butt connectors from parts store incase $1-$5.
I bet you the problem is under your relays. In the bcm “ I think that’s what it’s called “ it gets hot and melt the wire’s and the plastic.
Either that resister is pulling to much voltage or the fan it’s self is pulling to much voltage, and it’s causing the wiring from the fuse box it’s self to get hot
Got the same problem with my 2012 3.7. Ridiculous $70. for a new connector from Ford, no thanks.
Try Summit Racing for the connector. I paid $44. Not sure the current price. That’s where I got mines for cheaper. However, the headache is worth the fix under $100 if you have to worry about over heating all the time.

Yep. It happened to my again. I put the pig tail link in description. The fix was pretty simple. I didn’t do a video on it but if it happens again, I’ll make sure to do that on the wiring part.

Yea I got a new connector as well from Summit Racing around $45. I will make a new video soon as I fixed this problem by simply splicing the wires & re wiring
Just cut the pigtail right off ..them run to auto zone and order a new one

This shit happened to me yesterday right after dropping thousands on custom sound system shit. Over heats until I turn the ac fan on then the fan kicks on smh

Love these Mustang GTs So much to be tortured when these cars break and tear up…U can drive a car if it gets to hot 🥵 as in overheat…Any thing that deals with a car over heating is a fawking nightmare
