    Thanks Pam, great info! I just wanted to let newbie Etsy sellers know that when I started last year I started by selling a few items to friends and uploaded the items to Etsy so that when I launched properly I had a few sales and reviews already. Then my 'proper' launch only had 1 product and I would buy the yarn after they ordered in the colour they chose! Even though I wasn't making a lot of profit I was able to test the market and build my ranking. Then, when I had enough proof that it worked for me I made my first wholesale order and started adding in more products. So you really can start of a shoe string! I also didn't use any tags or branding at first. I just wrote a little thank you note.

    Just want to mention that thread crochet is often overlooked.....one big ball of thread and be found for 4 dollars, and a cheap steel hook, 2 mm or under, can be bought at your local thrift store for a song. A big ball of thread, 1100 yards, can easily make 4 doilies. And TH-cam is full of pattern tutorials.

    I am very happy I found your video today. Very informative and yes I subscribed right away. I have been crocheting again after I raised my family and closed a Bridal Store back in 2008 when the economy got bad. I was doing craft shows but my husband got sick last winter and is still recovering, he always helped me set up my shows. Now I am working on trying to sell from home. Thank so much for all your information!

    I am a senior and really need to make extra money as SS is certainly not enough. I get many compliments on my work and I sell some but selling $20 or $30 a month doesn't get it. I cannot design anything. I am not that crafty. I sew and crochet - both only about 4 years. I do sell to friends and family. I am sure I do not charge enough for my items. Do for years I dream of starting my crochet business.
    Sadly my hubby and and others tell me it will not work as a business.
    I get overwhelmed easily and need step by step and the courage to show others that it is possible to start a profitable crochet business.
    Also I can't decide on a niche for I make and like it all!
    Thanks for helping all of us!

      Oh no! I wonder what's wrong with the reminder system. :( I know it's hard when others don't believe in your business idea but please keep following along until YOU believe it's possible. Then, prove them wrong. I know it's difficult to find a niche but SO important. As I'm building my experimental business, I'm finding so much clarity, the more I really dive into my niche. It's helping me figure out the branding, the influencers that I'll connect with, and the way I'm going to go about marketing. It just makes everything easier. So glad to have you here!

    • @thecrochetpreneur
      @thecrochetpreneur  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, I'm so glad to have you hear. The required experience is really going to depend on the individual. Some people can crochet for years and never quite perfect their tension and stitch consistency and others create professional products quickly. I would say, take a look at your products with an objective eye and do research on some top crochet shops and see how your products look in comparison. Obviously, they don't have to be exactly the same, but if there is a glaring difference in the look and quality of the piece, give it some more time and keep practicing. In the meantime, I'm so happy you'll be joining us for future videos!

    • @thecrochetpreneur
      @thecrochetpreneur  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you live in a small space, trust me, I get it. I live in a 300 sq ft RV right now. Thankfully, I have a barn to store my inventory. However, if you don't have a place to store inventory, building your business on a made-to-order model rather than a ready-to-ship model would be more beneficial. They don't have to be custom items, just items that you can make after an order is placed and paid for instead of before. That eliminates the storage issue. Hope that helps!

    What about writing up a business plan??

    • @thecrochetpreneur
      @thecrochetpreneur  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      After 7 years of coaching handmade sellers, I've come to recognize that crafters can be easily overwhelmed and become paralyzed by the many administrative tasks required to start a business...creating a traditional business plan just makes that process 10x worse and, because most handmade sellers are simply starting a business as side-hustle without the desire to incorporate, scale, purchase a brick and mortar buiulding, and hire employees, the traditional business can become more of a distraction and stumbling block than a helpful tool. However, some crafters are business-minded go-getters - for these folks, connecting with a local Small Business Administration for help developing a traditional business plan feels energizing and motivating and that plan can help direct their path toward growth and scaling. If that's you, yay! If not, there are other ways to start a business that eliminate that roadblock. I hope that helps!

    Why register a business if you have no clue if you can sell your stuff?

    • @thecrochetpreneur
      @thecrochetpreneur  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think this question is coming at it backward. If you want to be sure something will work, you've got to go all in....you make stuff that people want to buy. If you don't know that people will buy it, you've skipped over some of the most important steps in building a business. Also, depending on where you live, it is likely the law that you must register the business in order to do business...so you're putting the cart before the horse if you insist on ensuring that the business is profitable before taking care the necessary business registrations. I hope that makes sense. :)
