      However everything in farming has gone through the roof,, feed, bedding, diesel,, etc etc,,, I'd be interested to here what you are getting pence per litre,, see if iam right???

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark B, I get where your coming from especially with cost levels rising hense the reason I try to carry out as much of the work on the farm as possible, efficiently is key here. In terms of pricing we get between 30 and 35 cent per litre base price on average, herds are now producing more litres per cow with better milk solids from advanced breeding being being the foundation.
      It’s the same in all aspects of farming with the beef industry being a prime example. Hopefully it will recover soon which I think it will.

    Super blue calf. let us know what he makes in the mart. The timber is for taking tyres off the pit. Tee part goes on the ground and straight part put against the pit. Tyres fed onto the straight part then from the top. No collecting scattered tyres then on the ground. It stops them rolling away.

      FARMER PHIL Cheers Philip, that’s and interesting theory on the finishing of the Holstein’s, I would of always expected the Holstein to burn more energy towards growth rather than weight gain especially in the first 24 months but I don’t finish, and I’m glad to hear that there’s still margins for profit there with them, are ya’s stocking up on calves these days?

    Your farm is so clean and nice ! The cows are quiet, clean and beautiful, that's a lovely thing to see ! That calf with lots of white was quite stunning, what is his father breed again ? I didn't get it (not an english native speaker, i have troubles understanding the accent, very sorry). His almost "blue" markings reminds me a lot of blue cheeses like roquefort for example.
    I am sorry for bringing this up but your dog is severly overweight, please read carefully the package of his food, there are usually instruction on how do appropriately decrease the amout of food for a diet.
    If not it's very simple, weight your dog and check on the package how much a dog that weight should eat. Then give the amount of food for a dog weighing 1 or 2kg less accordingly to the instructions. Keep going until you reach the weight you want.
    Vets do this simple test to determine how fat a dog is.
    Step 1: Lightly run your fingers over your knuckles as you make a fist. If you imagin that would be a dog's rib, that would be too thin.
    Step 2 : Put your palm up, fingers extended facing the ceiling. Run the fingers over the base of your fingers - this is too heavy.
    Step 3: Turn your hand over, palm down and feel over your knuckles. When a dog's rib feel like this, it's just right - healthy lean pet body condition !
    Our best friends already have such a short life, obesity cuts back years of life, we can't let that take them away from us...

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Noémie ROLLINDE de BEAUMONT thank you, that calf’s breed is a Belgium Blue.
      Huston ( Our Chocolate Lab ) has been in with the vet only a few weeks back, he weighed him and told me his weight is fine considering the type of Lab he is. I too agree with you and think he’s over weight, he actually eats very little. His patents were the very same and lived full healthy lives. I’ve cut back his food last week and taking him for regular walks to burn of some weight. We also have a Rough Collie ( Bailey ) who’s almost 2 years old and there very active together so that should help also. Thank you for your concern though as he’s a big part of our family 😊.

      @noemierollindedebeaumont1130 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      IFarm WeFarm
      I hear more and more stories where the vet told owners that their overwheight dog is not. I think it's because so many dogs are overweight that the expectation has changed, people are more used to see dogs on the chubbier side so their chubby dog fits just right in. And when they see a dog with an appropriate weight they freak out 😅.
      Dog buddies running around are the best ! A 2 yo collie ? That's gotta be hard to keep up with 😅 !
      I wish Huston and Bailey a long great life !

      We had the same, one Brown Swiss in a herd of predominantly British Friesians, and she was all the things you say. What you didn't mention is that they take over the herd as Matriarch. So watch out any animal that gets in its way, but very useful when you want to lead the herd to a new field.

      I think farmer pick there breed base on what there management style is . If you want cow that can produce large amounts of milk your going to have to put a lot into looking after them . When a cow produces at that level she needs a certain ration and housing .

    Calf pen needs more ventilation as you are more prone to diseases.. very informative how you farming is done in Europe

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wayne Brother calf pens have loads of ventilation, video may not show it proper but the calves do. Never any disease as a result thankfully

    • @IrishFrank22
      @IrishFrank22 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I could be wrong but calves don't need as much ventilation as they aren't ruminating until about 3-4 months and it's more important to make sure there is no draft as the calves can't regulate their temperature until they are ruminating.
