Muay Thai has 4 types mainly(or more) Muay Chaiyar,Muay Korash,Muay pala and Muay LopBuri all four are different One of them is more on parrying, the other one is more on grab ,the other one is just heavy hitting knee and elbow and Muay pala is just a simple one. The people wanted Jun and Kunimitsu, he gave them Generic old black Martial Arts dude and Ganryu. Bruce's 5 fans wanted him, he gave them this slap in the face character instead.

I think Leroy Smith was based on Leroy from The Last Dragon, a very cheesy Bruce Lee esque movie with a black main character who practices both Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do. Clearly he's supposed to be mainly based on IP Man, Bruce Lee's master, but there's too much similarities to that movie when I think of everything of Leroy lol. Also The Last Dragon is my favorite martial arts movie of all time, check it out.
