For the longest time, I wanted to see Wing Chun represented in Tekken so I became a Leroy fan instantly. Also loved that they designed him to look like the black martial arts masters from NYC in the 70s.
Although Leroy, he was extremely cheap I never found him that hard to deal with just that damn hell sweep. And you just can’t attack him cause the goddamn Perry so you have to just wait and punish him.
@@gemini4lyfe3001 1. No, Leroy is not a Mishima 2. I believe they tried to say "Parry" since Leroy has the best one in the game and it is indeed obnoxious
@@gemini4lyfe3001 parry* no he has a brain dead he’ll sweep tho that tracks rather well. And he hops and has auto low parry. So as a kazyua you are already limited. But the moves where he leaves the ground are sidestep able for the most part. I play aggressive
For a game like Tekken its hard to pull of a "consistent" accuracy imagery of Wing Chun because of the speed, especially in Tekken 8 which is going to be faster than Tekken 7. The dashes, gap closers into OTG's, etc. But it's interesting how they incorporated the WC movement and hits into whole juggle rush down system. I feel like games like Virtua Fighter would be more accurate because it was less flashy and a stripped down 8-way fighte that shows more accuracy with martial arts. It's cool to see Leroy back, love his character design, I do wish that they could have incorporated a little bit more but maybe that have since basically all they showed was his B&B's. You may want to check out Law's trailer as well.
Oh wow, yea that's a great point. Virtua fighter would have perfect for Wing Chun representation... Man... Now I'm kinda sad it isn't in there lol. The game pacing was perfect.
Great to see experts in the art doing their analysis. It would be cool if someone could send you in more detail Leroy's movelist so you can analyze move by move. Great video
Really good video! Its really cool that a wing-chun expert admires leroy smith! Its also great how detailed Tekken incorporated the wing-chun fighting style.
Wow! They really did their research. Also trying to understand the lore behind you and Sam in this video. This must take place years after seeking the bridge
Play Tekken 7! You can play with Leroy, and go to the practice menu to see all of Leroy's movements. I would like it if you do a side-by-side comparison to real Wing Chun!😊🎉
@@Warsheep2k6 Dude it was a joke. Siri is an Apple computer assistant thing, Jack is a robot. I obviously don't really expect an Apple device to critique how realistic Jack's fighting style is.
Nice insight! The moves in Tekken are over the top cause they are fighting with super humans, demons, cyborgs there so it is more like a fantasy version of martial arts but it is good how they represent.
altho i love wing chun i am not someone who has experience with it myself but from what i understand most traditional wing chun kicks are all aiming very low like not much higher than the knee, i may be wrong on that but as someone who has played a fair bit of leroy in tekken 7 i can say he uses his low kicks from a standing possition very well to mix up opponents and make it tricky to read where the next strike comes from (addition letory has a couple of stances that he can use that will let him counter peopls strikes that is where the trapping techniques come into play he will trap or parry from the stances to launch his own counter attackes.)
I must say as a Wing Chun practitioner Myself that Leroy Smith has truly amazing Wing Chun skills when compared to kung lao's Wing Chun in Mortal Kombat 11
At 5:31 when you talk about this technique it's actually a direct reference to Ip man 4 (with Donnie yen) when he finished a karateka. I practiced Wing chun too (the lineage of William Cheung) and in this trailer we can see a lot of big movement here : - at 2:17 he used a block named Kan Sao (or Kuan Sao) who is a "full" defensive move. You use both hand to block up and down at the same time you turn your body in the direction of the incoming punch. - at 2:21 he used his cane as a Dragon Pole, a big stick used in Wing Chun There is more but it will be too long to detail, at least they made a good character based on Ip man movies (cleary) and represent really well the Wing chun. I'm just sad that Wing chun community are ripped between Ip chun (son of Ip man) Wing chun style and William Cheung lineange, both of them claim their style are the Genuine one. It's a beautiful, effective and amazing martial art
Tekken devs always do their homework. Thats why i like Tekken way more the other games like mortal Kombat. Just a thing i can never take out of my mind: im not a wing chum person but i do practice muay thai and i dont really think chain punches work on a stand position. For that to work your oponent has to keep moving towards you or be trapped between you and an obstacle like a wall or the ground. The target also cant deffend himself or you wont be able to use chain punches for more then 2 or 3 punches and with punches to the chest o dont really see this working. As i sayied, i dont know shit about wing chum but i dont think a person can pull off the power needed for a move like that to work the way its suposed to work if they arent way bigger then the target and if im correct, the porpuse of wing chum is to fight bigger oponents right?
I have a lot of videos showing it in detail, but it’s more about cutting through an opponent’s guard and overwhelming them/ getting them to panic, you don’t have to be bigger bc you cut into a weak point in the guard as opposed to using force to push through it, but as I said in this video, it’s better to use it as a finishing move like the hammer fist while the opponent is compromised or stunned.
I trained in Wing Chun for nine years and in a real fight it's seldom works. Take up Boxing or something else guys. Don't waste your money on Wing Chun classes.
Yeah all of his dummy and standing form stuff looks amazing, but his application looks way too long-range and Hollywood to me. But like you said, realistic wing chun looks boring in a fighting game; you really have no choice but to make it look more sexy than realistic.
@@heroicsquirrel3195 That one too haha but they are all bull shit. There’s a reason this stuff isn’t used or seen in the UFC and high level MMA. It just doesn’t work.

@@heroicsquirrel3195 Oh yeah I have practiced Muy Thai for almost 2 decades now. I think kickboxing and Muy Thai are the best forms of striking, but there’s some techniques that can be taken from all martial arts. For instance, the first martial arts my dad put me in was Taekwondo to learn how to properly kick. Did that for like 2 years and then immediately swapped me into Muy Thai, then later added wrestling and I decided to pick up Jiu Jitsu later in life myself. But Taekwondo especially modern Taekwondo will get you hurt in a fight.

It's unironically a barrier to being 'old school', since most people online today will not get the reference!

Thank you! Yes that would be awesome!!
Tekken 7 has likely most of his current movelist, doubt they'll give him *TOO* many more tools than what he has (since they were broken on release).
Oh heck yeah! Between the badass Leroy, and King (who's always been my main) being both at launch, my hype for Tekken 8 is at an all-time high.
It looks fantastic! I might seriously have to try out Leroy! Great time for fighting game fans!
