Thanks Chip Smith!
Thanks for watching.
Hey Chip, I loved this video. And subscribed. I have a few questions. 1. Do you mulch up against the trunk of the plant, or leave a gap? 2. Your row spacing looks wide. How far apart? 3. Is that so you can get equipment thru there? 4. Do you do anything to keep birds off the fruit? Thx! 😊
When the plants are young I would leave a small gap, maybe a couple of inches. Actually my row spacing needs to be about 5 ' more than what I have them. I have them about 10' apart and they need to be about 15'. It is very tight to get a mower through the rows when your bushes are mature. If you have a small amount of bushes you will need to net them with insect netting. (not bird netting, birds will get caught up in the bird netting. If you have a large number of bushes as we do there really isn't a problem that is noticeable. Hope this helps and I'm happy to have you subscribed to our channel.
Great video!
Thanks!

Thanks for the information, Chip. Where do you buy your 90% elemental sulfur? It's not easy to find 50-pound bags locally, and getting it by FedEx or UPS costs nearly as much as the product itself.
I had to drive a couple of hours away to get it. I purchased a half pallet when I purchased it so it has lasted me for some time. It was a wholesale store near the Virginia line. I’ll post it when I find it. Where are you located?
You can order it from tractor supply. They should have free shipping to a local store.

Hello, Good morning!! I have two young blueberry plants planted this March. I noticed that there are lots of very tiny brown/ red spots both on top and back of the leaf. We had heavy rain this year. I live in Georgia. Not sure if it’s because of nitrogen deficiency or too much of water or fungal disease. Please advise. Thank you so much for your time!!!
It could be either. When planting blueberries they need a lot of organic matter in the soil. You want your pH between 4.5 and 5.5. Normally you would fertilize around late February or Early March in your area or when you buds are breaking. I would check your pH first. Do a soil test to make sure the bushes have what they need. If it is fungi you could spray with Captan. It treats most fungi on blueberries.
@@SeedsofPromise thank you so much
what is your fertility program? soil test i suppose? and then amendments? what amendments? side dress? top dress?....mygreathanks and blessings
I fertilize in the spring just before bud break with an organic fertilizer. I did soil test originally but now I only test for pH levels. I add elemental Sulfur as needed to adjust pH levels. I use Tiger 90cr. I add 4-5 inches of mulch to help keep roots cool and to help keep soil moist. Hope this helps
Can these bushes be hedged and still produce?
Yes, they do very well as a hedge. There is a home near us that has bushes as a hedge and they have a very nice looking hedge of blueberry bushes and they are full of berries every year. Plant them 3 feet apart for a thick hedge.

Your blueberry bushes look very big. I have just bought one very small bush that says it has big berries. Do they all get as tall as yours?
it all depends on the variety that you have. Do you know the name of the bush you have?
Can you plant blueberries in 100% peat moss?
I’ve never tried it but my concern would be drainage. You could add some perlite in with it to help drainage. I have seen blue berry bushes planted in pine bark fines only and they did fine.
@@SeedsofPromiseyou might have mentioned it in the video, but what kind of mulch can you use for blueberries?
I’m using wood chips that I get for free from arborist. I have 3 or 4 arborists that drop all their chips on my property. You can use hard wood or pine for mulch. Both are fine.
