Bad Gear is taking a week off, instead I have teamed up with the one and only Gaz Williams and we will be taking a look at the mind blowing EBOARDMUSEUM in the beautiful city of Klagenfurt, Austria located in the Alps right next to the Wörthersee.
The EBOARDMUSEUM is probably the biggest synth museum in the world and contains rare exhibits ranging from the very first Minimoog (Serial 1001) to all kinds of synthesizer classics like the Yamaha CS-80, Roland Jupiter-8, instruments used by famous artists like Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream and The Grateful Dead, various string machines, vintage modular synthesizers and an absolutely incredible collection of organs including the very first Hammond organ from 1935.

„This one is very rare. I have two of these“
I liked that flex too;)
Yep. For the win. 👍
I love the Bad Gear series but this is a welcome surprise! Thank you for the variety of content!
Thanks!!!
Love the humor
0:15 “This impressive collection of vintage keyboards is…”
My brain: “ticking all the boxes”
It totally is!!!
I like how that woman was laughing at gaz's banana rant in b-roll2.
Yeah, he had her at "7 sugars"
This is a really cool video, I like this kind of content. Ten out of ten synthesisers my friend. 🎉
Thank you so much!!!
Oh my god dude I mean like for real seriously you must know that all of the knobs go up to 11 so this is actually 11 out of 10 😅😊
Totally g.a.s. )))
Such a delightful video and a lovely change of scenery for your channel. Had a blast watching yall look like kids in a candy store.
Thank you so much!!!
6:50 “Let’s enjoy this moment of me shutting up” - oh I love you, Florian 😂❤
😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️
This dude needs his own monthly segment on the channel or something. A natural born entertainer indeed!
Agreed!!! He's on Gaz channel next week!!!
Well Florian, no feeble attempts at humor from me today . . . this was simply FABULOUS! I visited that area in 2018, but sadly, I did not know this museum existed. Thanks for the tour!
Thank you so much (for the feedback, not lack of humor). Yeah, much recommended when you're in the area again
@@AudioPilz I'll steal the words from a famous Austrian and say, "I'll be back!"
That Museum is treasure trove! 3 Fairlight's CMI's casusally arranged on a stack, it's art!
It's an altar;)
«Fart Of Noise» ;-)
@@80iesDude45 they used synclavier I think, did she ? 😏
Because: Bad Gear is a subset of Audio Pilz and as long as Florian is narrating in the usual style we'll be tuned in like a DCO.
Thank you so much!!!
The placement of Eric Idle's waiter was superb!!
Thanks!!!
I really should visit this museum one day... Thanks for presenting this!
Much recommended!!!
the guy from bad gear and rick rubin in a synth museum, amazing!
Not the crossover that we wanted but the crossover we deserved;)
7:19. My heart practically stopped at the sight of a Yamaha DX7IIC limited Centennial Edition! And yet it is completely passed over as a boring old DX1 hogs all the attention!
I know, we had to make some difficult decisions there. Fun fact: the DX7IIC belongs to the guy who lent me the V-Synth for the Bad Gear episode
That lady in the convenience store at the end was really digging the banana monolog.
Definitely!!!
OMG! I love Gaz's intermission music! Inspired by the beauty of the environment, I'm sure!
I love how you two captured the experience of this visit, Florian.
It was both respectful and wonderfully humorous as well.
An absolute delight as always!
Peace.
Thank you so much!!!
And special thanks to Gaz for his banana advice.
I will cherish and abide by that evermore!
The strange Hammond organ with accordion buttons is a Hammond Chord Organ S6. It's literally a synthesizer (with lamps) it contains the same technology as the Hammond Novacord inside plus the chord buttons and two pedal for playing the root and the fifth with a level barre bellow the thumb to accentuate the volume of the chord. It was before the auto accompaniment section was invented. My grand-father had one, it was old and he got rid of it. But I was fortunated enough to play with it.
Thanks for the heads up!!!
Crumar, Farfisa, Elgam, CRB, Welson, Giaccaglia, Eko, Elka: they all were made in the same town. I wonder what was in Ancona's water back then...
I assume they had nice espresso;)
Awesome to see Florian team up with Gaz, certainly the "top Gear" duo of the synth world, from watching AudioPilz channel for years now I get Florian's sense of humour and I bet he is buzzing at the snippets of footage he gets from Gaz with his bizarre spontaneous outbursts pure gold. The museum look awesome, pure synth heaven, You need to take this duo act further, go camping with a DAWless setup whatever, brilliant.
Thank you so much!!!
This museum is a flashback to 1993 on my quest to find the book Sythesizers von Gestern when I walked into MusicHaus Koln where they had all this stuff for sale and no one wanted it. Even saw a PPG Waveterm back then with ARP2600's, Elka Synthex and modulars.
Yeah, that's like Bitcoin back in 2010
4:51 Yes! Finally! Somebody thought of a whole another movie when talking about the Yamaha CS.
😀😀😀
What a nice experience. I live in Miami, the most you could find here is the Museum of Reggaeton and Santeria Cubana.
Thanks!!! I'd love to visit that!!!
Looks like the average /r/synthesizers users collection, except that these are actually occasionally being used to make music :P
😂😂😂Lol, shots fired😂😂😂
r/synthesizerscirclejerk is leaking
Always fun to get to see someone like Mr. Prix who so clearly loves what he does
Agreed!!!
1:12 what a wise man of culture !
When you know you know...
"Im out of words...doesn't happen very often", 😂🤣. And no meme to go with that?! Wow, a truly unique event! What an amazing machine that was though!
That Mellotron blew my mind!!!
Wondeful! Gaz and Florian should do a buddy movie..
Like Cheech and Chong;)
I'll only visit this museum if Florian can narrate my every step in the most sarcastic and humourous way possible!
Jk, the museum is amazing!
I'd be up to that!!!
@@AudioPilz Already looking for tickets to Austria!
I think it’s adorable how you say “Yamaha.”
Thanks!!!
"oh another polysix laying around" :D this place is definitely on my bucket list, maybe I know someone to visit in Graz.
Much recommended!!!
I love seeing you out and about. That museum is incredible. Thank you so much for sharing! Glad to see you out and about. Special Request: Please say "Epitome" more often. I can't believe you can make it rhyme with "Visit Rome"
Thank you!!!
Oh that was GREAT! Thanks Florian and Gaz! ⚡️🤘🏻⚡️
Thank you so much!!!
So in addition to 'bad gear' we really need a series 'weird gear' featuring all this stuff presented here.
Great idea, thanks!!!
"An unbelievable amount of organs... ...count me in!"
Hell yeah!!!
Superb video, as always. ❤
2:33 Those puns made me laugh way more than they deserved lol
Loved this episode, thanks for taking the trip!
Thank you so much!!!
You just brought 12 minutes of sunshine and smiles to my life.. Love it!!!
Thank you!!!
Never seen so much lovely bad gear in one place.
It's mind blowing!!!
What's worse than lobsters on your piano?
Crabs on you organ.
Behave!!!
What an amazing museum!
As a string synth obsessive, it's interesting that the curator rates the String Melody so highly. I've owned a Mk II that was Logan branded and a Mk I that was rebadged as the Vox String Thing. Confusingly, there was an earlier Vox String Thing which was a completely different and much more primitive machine.
My own string synth favourite has to be the Solina String Ensemble, as the chorus effect that turns what is essentially a cheap organ into a stringer is so perfect.
Agreed!!! Yeah, it's a tough choice when it comes to the string machines
Didnt see any Welson Stereo Symphonies there.
I have to say its my favourite, because I have one ;D
Had to Google that one - I'd not heard of it before! Reminds me of some of the Crumar stringers that also had brass and piano sections.
I used to have a Hohner branded Elka K2 that was also similar. That machine was incredibly heavy, but had its original stand in a branded carry case.
Thanks for making me aware of this museum. I knew about Schweizer Museum und Zentrum für elektronische Musikinstrumente in Fribourg and wanted to visit it for a while now, but the Eboardmuseum is closer, I can either drive there or a take a train.
Definitely do that!!!
I also like this documentaries! And it comes really inhandy when planning to buy a new synth and your girlfriend tries to make some statements like: another one? They all sound the same etc. its already fully packed in this room. Then you can show this video, to place it in perspective.
He definitely has the most elaborate synth cave in history;)
Oh, I didn't know such a gem is just one hour of driving from Ljubljana! Gonna become a frequent visitor...
Great, much recommended!!!
Nice to see that Formant modular synth in a complete state! This was an ongoing DIY project published in several 70's issues of a German electronics magazine called Elektor. Also picked up by it's Dutch counterpart, Elektuur. Built a few modules myself back then, was great fun!
Legendary piece!!!
I tried to build one module, but failed (I was 14 or so). Later they had a synth on a PCB, that I built and it worked (Chrorosynth). Finally, I ended up with an MS-20 😄.
But I have this Formant Demo cassette that brought me into the synth world, 45 years ago. It's somewhere here on YT.
Awesome video. It's fun to see the synth TH-camrs all hang out.
Thank you!!! Agreed, it would be phantastic to get everyone over there!!!
Even Florian struggled to insert enough memes into this video.
Too many synths for the mame game...
The ultimate temple of bad gear! Bad gear all around! 🥹🥺
Love it!!!
09:45 The one I´ve told you is my own bad gear! "The Spectrum Dynamic (SD) does mean that some of the 32 digitally generated waves (for Upper voice) evolved with time." ... don´t know what that means but it sounds like 80s Depeche Mode on a bad night. Amazing video. Thank you!!! ❤🔥
Thanks for the heads up!!!
Just amazing! Can't wait to come back to Europe in order to visit this incredible museum!
Much recommended!!!
If I ever decide to rob a museum, I now know where I'd be heading to.
Maybe get a truck for the CS80;)
regarding Поливокс (Polivoks): it is indeed closely related to military, because all electronic equipment factories in USSR were actually dual purpose.
military and civil prodacts were made of the same parts, but the better ones of course were used for military, and the leftovers for civil.
this explains why the build quality of civil products was often horrible.
Thanks for the heads up!!!
A totally different episode but excellent as always. Great work!
Thank you so much!!!
What a fantastic collection! Thanks for another great video!
Thank you!!!
LMAO at that woman judging Gaz for the Banana bit.
😂😂😂
I watched this for a second time, specifically for the part about the banana.
😀😀😀
Amazing collection in that museum. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!!!
You’re awesome thank you for filming and showing us this.
Thank you so much for watching!!!
Oh no! Gaz did the "modular in the woods" thing. The shame! :)
There are some meta layers to that;)
This was delightful. What an unbelievable collection!
The protos and early serials blew my mind, but not perhaps as much as the news that Austrians don't care about the Sound of Music or that Gaz has a banana philosophy.
Thank you!!! You were dearly missed!!!
Awesome video! Great to see you both geeking out! 😄
Happy to hear that!!! Thanks!!!
Great video, very entertaining and informative. You should do some more though I do feel you missed an opportunity to have Gaz Williams spinning around with his arms out wide in a traditional Austrian folk dress to the Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music!
Thanks!!! Great feedback
Or the two of you singing the "Do-Re-Mi" song from S. of Music. "Do, a deer, a female deer..."
I think there was more bad gear in that episode than in all others combined. Well done.
Most probably;) Thanks!!!
Cool video! I just recently bought a Roland D-50 on Reverb that shipped from Vienna. It took a two week journey through Austria, Germany and Poland before it got to the U.S.A. It travelled through the home countries of Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin and then to me. Totally worth the wait.
Thanks!!! Nice!!!
Just incredible thank you for showing us this and the travel tips!
Always a pleasure, thanks for watching!!!
I would love to see more random Gaz food reviews! 😂
I think that needs its own Netflix show;)
The woman behind him was entertained.
9:45 -- No WAY. An HZ-600?!?!?! That was my first keyboard Back In Th' Day™. It provided the pipe organ for the bridal processional at my wedding. :D
Legend!!!
That lady sure thought Gaz was funny.. What a beautiful country you live in.
Thank you!!!
Wow. What an absolutely incredible collection. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thank you!!!
Great episode and it looks like a well-deserved vacation. I hope you get more opportunity to travel and look at cool museums and weird unique studio setups.
I would love to hear som jams too, though I understand there are limitations due to practical reasons.
Thanks!!! I actually wanted to jam the CS-30 and PS-3200 but failed miserably due to strange reasons even Gert couldn't really help me with
It's also advisable to visit the museum in summer as the region get really fucking cold in winter and no-one wants to snap off a frozen finger. And it's in Austria not Australia but if you get it mixed up I have small collection of synths here to view it will only cost you a kidney or any other valuable organ.
Agreed!!! Winter there is hardcore
i didn't know we have such a gem in austria. thx for pointing to it, amazing!
Much recommended!!!
Excellent looking place! The livestream next Wednesday on Gaz Williams' channel should be fun :)
Bananas are radioactive. I need them for my reactor to power all my synths! 🍌
Agreed, looking forward to it!!!
Wow! what a collection. Definitely need to visit that museum one day.
Much recommended!!!
I'll pack a banana too :)@@AudioPilz
@9.46 - "What the hell is SD synthesis?" - SD Synthesis is Casio's "Spectrum Dynamics" synthesis. It's basically a load of preset waveforms (supposedly an advanced form of Casio's earlier Consonant Vowel synthesis used in their earlier keyboards) that can be modified with an amp and an analogue filter(s), both of which can be modified with user programmable envelopes. All models except the HT6000 have a single filter making them paraphonic. Meanwhile the flagship HT6000 is true polyphonic and has eight independent filters (and a velocity keyboard). Kind of similar in concept to the Korg DW synths, though the Casio SD synths lack the character and bass that the Korgs have.
Great collection of synths in that video btw!
Thanks for the heads up!!!
7:57 I know that guy ;) great episode :)
Hey Tom, glad to have you in there!!!
That’s was brilliant! Didn’t know it existed, what an amazing collection 😮.....definitely a place to visit one day.
Definitely worth a visit!!! Thanks!!!
I guess you can have a banana in your pocket AND be glad to see someone 👌💯💯
😂😂😂
I love looking at all this *wintage* (not bad) gear! 😊
❤️❤️❤️
Lmao at the popcorn reconstruction being cut out after three seconds
Then the video killed the radio star Wii Sports STRIKE. Amazing! Haha
Thank you!!! Gotta work with what I have;)
Whenever I try to buy a rare synthesiser I always find that some Prix got in before me. So frustrating.
;)
Nice one! Mini🎹🍌I don’t think it‘s over💰😂 Miniboog is also nice 😊 Thank you guys for showing us this amazing synth museum!
Thanks for watching!!!
I visited Vienna last year and went to Klangfarbe because I learned about it from this channel. I guess next time I go to Austria I'm going here!
Much recommended!!!
My jaw just dropped to the ground. We have a synth museum like this in Austria??
Yeah, a well-kept secret!!!
We need more videos like this one, which might be from this museum =)
We need a content creator HQ there!!!
Excellent stuff from you two. So much fun. In other news I am waiting the delivery of my new Polyend Tracker. This will mean that the only musical instrument I have not to be on bad gear is my Volca Sample. There’s time, I know. (Better Gear doesn’t count.)
Thank you!!!
Somehow Florian's manic energy and Gaz's manic energy cancelled each other out and this ended up being kind of calm and relaxing! I enjoyed it.
That was just for the camera;)
Down the road from Graz wow - never knew! Thanks so much for making the video , never thought I'd be so excited about Kärnten! Definitely a great reason to go!
Much recommended!!!
finally a good documentary this is awesome
Thank you!!!
Florian, if possible, could you do bad gear episodes from this synthgasm galore collection museum ??
A true historical site.
Great idea, thanks!!!
Just arrived home from the Faaker See bike week. I have seen the youtube notification about the new BG episode on friday when I was there and then I decided to watch it later, when I'll be at home.
Now I just watched and I am banging my head into the wall.
I can't belive I was so close to a DX1 and a CS80 and just missed it.
Shit shit shit.
Definitely go back there!!!
Awesome! I just sold my Hammond M3. I also had a Crumar DS2. I really need to get my old Korg Polysix back up and running. Great video! Thanks for this one.
Thank you so much!!!
Amazing museum and Owner...Gaz and Florian...what a combo!
Thank you!!!
He should get an Hydrasynth
Do you think he needs one?;)
2:28 New Order did that, too. At the time they recorded Blue Monday they sampled farts on their Flatulator I.
Great work, Gaz, AudioPilz, Gert Prix, EBOARDMUSEUM, and er'body involved. We love sound synthesis and we love music! Dance and feel high! :)
Thank you so much!!!
Hilarious ! To be honest, I thought "Maybe there is a Sielorchestra" (because I had one 40 years ago) - and there it was !!! Congratulations on the great find, I never thought of Klagenfurt as a synth stronghold. P.S. the missing Memorymoog maybe is in the Synthorama Museum in CH 😏
Thank you!!!
@@artisans8521 When is the Synthorama remark ? I watched the whole video again and did not see it. I just thought about the visit of "Look Mum's..." to Synthorama, which frightened me a lot (for the synth's health), but I had forgotten the name of the museum and had to search for it.
@@AudioPilz A small Idea for a project - maybe in summer ? : You spend a weekend in Klagenfurt (maybe again together with Gaz) and make a bad Gear episode for the "CS-corner", with the usual jams, like for the other gear you do, but this time for the top-of-everything legend (and give it a bad verdict please 😀). That could be the beginning of a miniseries "Top (Bad) Gear" with CS-80, Jup-8, Synthex, PS3200... So that we know what we can expect for the price of a kidney (or two 😉).
I didn't think it could get any better than Florian talking sh*t with Nick Batt. Then this happens!
Literally my two favourite Pootube synth people. Together and fully on form making a really fun video.
Your enthusiasm and love of music / gear is evident for all to see and is so infectious. Watching you giggle like school kids and be so enormously happy was truly a joy to behold. I was buzzing watching this video.
Also, next holiday Austria (I'll probably just skip the synth museum and just spend a week staring at Arnold's bronzed crotch!).
Thanks guys.
Thank you so much!!! Bronze Arnold is much recommended;)
Vertical mixers are common in dub soundsystems as a part of preamps.
Thanks for the heads up!!!
It's incredible how far(t) people are willing to go for the (f)art
lol
