    What a great tour of a very familiar place. :) Rob and his excellent team -- Mike, Eli, Spencer, Cesar and crew -- have worked on over 20 of my classic synths. Some of them are super rare and valuable, some of them are odd and obscure but important to me. The guys continue to do outstanding work on everything they touch. Go here with confidence!

    Very cool. I was fortunate enough to work at the old Guitar Center in downtown san jose during the rise of the analog synths. Played all the early MOOGs, Roland, ARPs, Oberheims, CS80s and many others. An opportunity came up to buy one of the last Prophet 10s before sequential closed shop. Needs some voice work again and probably some other stuff, as it has been sitting in its case for almost 20 years now. I am afraid to find out the cost though.
    I lived on a busy street in Hayward back in the 80s that would have stop and go commute traffic especially on a warm friday afternoon. I had programmed that beast to sound like a war from hell with choppers, spiraling bombs, machine guns, rockets, and explosions. Through my 2000 watt power system I would crank it out the window towards the street. Should have seen everyone looking out their windows to the sky. We could not stop laughing as we waited for the next group of cars to come to a stop.

    Well, that explains why a CS80 costs so much money back in the day... I have never seen so many parts inside a synthesizer, I thought a Jupiter 8 had a lot, this is crazy. I would not want to own this as it would cost a fortune to keep it maintained!

    What's the issue with Behringer? They are bringing vintage analogue synths to the masses instead of it being in the reserve of the rich cork-sniffer collectors....

    • @skaneverdies
      @skaneverdies 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, Behringer is relieving a lot of the market pressure that drove up prices of analog synths and their maintenance over the last two decades. Great for musicians, bad for people who sell synthesizers at a premium, like our friend here. I suppose the fear is that as the modern, reliable clones roll out, the market for the originals will become smaller, driving down prices. But who knows? Perhaps there will always be people willing to spend $20,000 on a CS-80 when there is a $1,200 alternative. Time will tell.

    • @GNeuman
      @GNeuman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skaneverdies I'm also very interested to see how the vintage synth market unfolds; there seems to be a mixture of animosity, contempt but also neutrality towards what Behringer are doing but there does appear to be agreement that vintage synth prices won't be affected. However, according to Ebay the prices for original Odyssey's appears to have tanked....

    • @RosenSound
      @RosenSound 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To be brief but concise, we can’t support Behringer in respects to their tactic of suing our friends and community members for their opinion based on tangible evidence. To do your own research, google “behringer sues dave smith employee” and decide if this is the type of company you would like to support.
      I think their model D was great and I know for a fact people will still pay big for the real deal no matter how close Uli’s clones get. I’m not scared at all. It’s like saying people will stop paying for bmw’s if the newest Kia can go 0-60 in the same amount of time.
      Thank you

    • @GNeuman
      @GNeuman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rosen Sound thanks For replying.....as a European, the lawsuit that Behringer brought against DSI does seem over-reactionary and harsh. Perhaps more surprisingly are you American guys who are so offended by this;after all, it's the US that leads the world when it comes down to suing organisations/ people.
      Having said that, I truly admire Dave Smith, Tom Oberheim and of course the late, great Dr. Bob and Alan Pearlman. True innovators who led, and still lead synth design.
      However, personally I can only applaud what Behringer are doing; democratising the vintage analogue synth sound. This can only be a good thing. I hope also this development doesn't hurt your business; indeed I think you are right, there will always be a section of people with the money to afford the vintage equipment and I'm sure they'll take the elitist stance....it's human nature...
      Good luck, long may your businees continue, it's fantastic to see skilled work still being done in the US and Europe. God knows, my technical career has been torpedoed by outsourcing to cheaper labour countries but hey, you know what this whole argument boils down to? One word; Capitalism.

    • @RosenSound
      @RosenSound 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      An Ambient Cyborg it’s beyond over reactionary or harsh. It’s simply an easy way for them to bankrupt someone and attempt to ruin them for calling them out as copy cats.
      If you support that type of company under the basis of “hey! It’s cheaper! And I can afford it!” that’s fine.
      I’ll disagree, and not just cause I can afford them or I deal vintage gear. It won’t affect me.
      It affects the people and families of those who truly innovate. That’s why we can’t have nice things.

      These days, $10-12k is what a PPG Wave 2.2/2.3 will fetch in the open market. And they're generally for snaggle-toothed, unmaintained ones with the usual plethora of issues. If you can get a Wave for $4k in *any* condition, good for you!
