Although I absolutely love my UDS, I don't believe I've seen one that looks better than yours. Everything is absolutely beautiful and it's a shame you have to cook it because it looks so good. Thank you for sharing this video and giving us ideas.
Roy Villegas I’ve used both paints, and prefer the automotive paint. Especially the anodized paint. The anodized paint comes out so shiny it looks like it’s clear coated
Where can I pick up the anodized paint at? I ordered this kit from you guys yesterday and I will be ordering more once I receive this one I have three uds sold already I’ll bee doing it as a side hustle on the weekends thanks for the quick reply
Roy Villegas depending on the color, AutoZone carries two or three of the anodized paint. But I purchased my paint online at Jegs.com Be sure to get the Anodized Ground/Base Coat as well. Join my Facebook group Ugly Drum Smokers Texas
Awesome Kit!!! I wish this kit was around when I built my UDS! I built my UDS 5 years ago from scratch. Love the coal basket!!! I will need to order one of those. I'll have to post the build of mine on your Facebook page. I put wheels under my barrel that I purchased from Harbor Freight. Makes it easier to move around :-)

NICE BUILD! You should be proud and I am confident you enjoy every minute using it. You've inspired me. I want to build one. What is the total cost - drill bits, sandpaper, paint, misc, etc.? What are the total man-hours? The $10 barrel and $140 kit would be just the beginning. What would you sell it for?
Stephen Carter are you on Facebook? Join my Facebook group Ugly Drum Smokers Texas And we can help walk you through it. You will need a drill with quarter inch bit. Are use all quarter inch by half inch screws to attach the hardware. And one and ahalf inch long screws to hold the grates. Figure about $5 for nuts and bolts that have to be stainless steel... You will need a 1-1/2 Hole Saw that will fit your drill as well to cut the holes for the intakes.. Paint, use the VHT high temp primer From AutoZone and then you can use any type of paint you want. It does not have to be high temp. It can be Walmart paint.
Brandon Cassidy we Put on VHT Primer, then VHT black paint, the Black seems to be a great base coat for the gold.. Then we hit it with Gold VHT paint then clear coat
Patrick Dubois I did use a clear coat for the first time on this drum. It was a European Clear Coat but I do not know the name of the product as I have not attempted again .. everything in my garage has a small layer of clear coat on it. Lol Although I do the majority out of a rattle can, I have had a couple sprayed with automotive paint by a body shop where they have applied a expensive clearcoat as well.
