    It's still nuts how much this video is still growing even a year after it's been posted. Thank you to everyone who has commented and liked and just watched the video in the first place!It is crazy to me how many people are still watching and commenting! The video is so close to 20K views and it is just mind blowing to me. I have a couple short films, documentaries, and video-essays out and more on the way if you enjoy this type of content! Klaatu Hope is one of the best progressive rock albums ever made. The first album is very good and their third release "Sir Army Suit" is pretty good too. But "Hope" is a sure fire classic and should be checked out by any rock fan who loves unique and beautiful music.

    I am a huge Beatles fan, and I started listening to Klaatu after hearing about the Beatles rumors. I didn't really think they sounded like The Beatles at all vocally, and only some similarities in the style. However, I was blown away by how good they were. Every part of the songs are great, and I especially love the meaningful lyrics like in Mrs. Toad's Cookies and Hope. They are my second favorite band now (Only behind The Beatles), and I'm trying to collect all their CDs. Only missing Magentalane right now, I am finding them all as cheap as possible and I still have yet to see it under $50. I have literally only met one other person who knows their music who wasn't introduced to them by me. Hopefully their popularity grows more, they were so amazing and I'm sure there are many people who would love them if they knew them.

      I was looking into buying 3:47 EST but all I found were vinyls 300$ up. I guess they are rare enough and have enough of a following to sell which blows my mind.

    • @Kaito_Falcon
      @Kaito_Falcon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VictreebelTV I've seen most of the albums on vinyl for cheaper than the CDs, so I think most of those are not as rare. I don't know if they have enough of a following though, since when I check for the CDs most of the expensive ones do not seem to sell. The cheap ones go fast though, so I get them as soon as I see them.

    A year before I discovered that Canada's most successful export wasn't these guys or any band at all I was in touch with John Woloschuk and Dino Tome of Klaatu. It was 1995 I was 19. I had fallen in love with Klaatu's majestic and beautiful music and wanted the full story of the band. You sir nailed almost all of it! The only thing you didn't nail was why they were anonymous and I only know why because I contacted those guys. For the backlash they blamed themselves said it was all their own making they wouldn't even really do interviews. In the end it would have been better if people had listened to these guys as their own entity not a Beatles novelty. They deserved better than that. Thank you for your heartfelt documentary on them.

    • @VictreebelTV
      @VictreebelTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What a sad story! Their anonymity was their downfall it seems and not every member of the band agreed to stay anonymous which made things worse. Thank you for watching the video and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

    Great video. My dad used to play Klaatu records often when I was a kid. A lot of the reason people bought the The Beatles conspiracy wasn’t because of the voices being similar. It was the idea of the music being orchestrated and changing so drastically like the Beatles. There are a ton of similarities. One of the theories I remember hearing was that the Beatles were the brains behind the operation writing the music and having others perform it,..To see if they could become famous again without using their names/band names. Almost like “could we really do it again?!”. Regardless of what you believe, it’s a cool idea. Great band and music regardless! I love them. Cheers! 😊👍

    My brothers and I got this record in 1976, as we were big Beatles fans. It was pretty obvious it was not The Beatles, but I liked a lot of the songs. Hearing the songs now, I don't like them nearly as much. Some are good, but most are like sci-fi nerds trying to write a song. Klaatu would never have had any fame if not for this stupid rumor about being The Beatles.

  • @jerrylev59
    @jerrylev59 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    There's definitely a George Martin influence in their use of orchestral strings and brass, but that's not really the Beatles core sound, which is guitar-driven rock. Klaatu's later albums had more prominently guitar-based tunes, though.

    *_1951_* , not 1971, but yes, it was the name of the robot in *The Day The Earth Stood Still* . And yeah, it's much better, given its age, than the Keanu remake.
    My own personal favorite of their five albums was Sir Army Suit, but, looking back, arguably, the concept album, Hope, has a lot to say for itself 40+ years on.
    Yeah, I'm old enough to have bought them in first press vinyl. ;-)
    Nice little piece. You should consider a followup and talk about at least the next two albums, along with, probably, Endangered Species. Magentalane felt like the band had completely wimped out, and lost all their earlier vibrance. You could hear some of it in Endangered Species, but it really took over Magentalane.
    That's my opinion, mind you -- YMMV, and you may like the last album. But it did feel like it was the End of Klaatu.

    I think it's amazing that 45+ years later people are still talking about the Klaatu
    mystery. At the height of it, Terry told me about the rumour and I didn't say a word to anyone. I thought it was weird that someone I'd known for years was thought to be a Beatle. Still, I love Klaatu's incredible music and hope that in the future many continue to discover it.

      From Alfred, heed thy sharpened ear
      A message we do bring
      Starship appears upon our sphere
      Through London's sky come spring.

    Judging from the snippets of Klaatu's music heard here, especially the song "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft," it would have been far. more believable that Klaatu was Pink Floyd recording under another name than the Beatles! Only Pink Floyd were still a going concern in 1976 and had released their biggest album, "The Dark Side of the Moon," just three years earlier.

    It's not, Klawtoo, If you can say, "clap", drop the p and add half of a tutu and put emphasis on, "tu". If you still don't get it, watch "The Day The Earth Stood Still". The robot's name is Klaatu.
    The vocal sounded a lot more like George than Paul.
    1971??? I'm not sure but I'd say the movie was closer to being released in 1951!!
    It could also be a reference to, "I'll Follow The Sun".
    After their third album, 'Hope', the decided to put the Beatle rumour to rest and record their forth album, "Endangered Species" in a way that DIDN'T sound AT ALL like The Beatles. Then they did one final album in the same way, "Magenta Lane". Over a decade later, a couple of them did solo albums which, on a couple tracks, featured all three members. I'm pretty sure Dee is still recording but I don't know is John and Terry are. I seem recall Dee telling me that one of them went into woodwork and has never wanted to get back into music, except for those couple of solo tracks.

      No worries, mate. Here's the story of how Klaatu became the most revered band in history:
      “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft” story.
      Of course for the last many decades, just about everyone on Earth has been and is thankful and most appreciative of the first highly beneficial interstellar cultural contact which was made in the late 1970s, August 23, 1978, in fact, with the Siomouriums (phonetic approximation). These ancient (by our measurement), great and generous people are from the fourth planet which its inhabitants call Siomouri, orbiting a star we call Proxima Centauri in the binary star system Alpha Centauri A&B, roughly 4.35 light-years away from us. Proxima Centauri is slightly closer at 4.25 light-years although given that scale of distance the difference is hardly significant.
      Anyway, one of the most interesting things about that contact and how it was made is the now well-known story of how the crew of the Siomourium interstellar vessel (craft) that was cruising near our solar system picked up a random radio broadcast which contained the now legendary song “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft” by the equally legendary band, Klattu, from their first album.
      Since then considered by virtually everyone to be one of the greatest bands of all time, considered by many equal to the Beatles which they were once actually taken for when they first came to prominence, Klattu’s now universally beloved recording sonically interested the Siomourium crew and they translated it into their language which, as we know, is partially made up of complex, organized harmonic vibrations resembling music to us.
      Upon hearing the phrase, “We are your friends”, their interest in further study of us here on Earth commenced. While it is difficult to understand or explain the Siomourium time continuum which we have come to understand is common throughout the many dozens of highly developed Alpha Centauri planets, a few “years” were expended in their studies and they eventually contacted us in what we measure as only a few days after they first heard the great Klattu recording.
      The rest is, as they say, history, a least as we measure it, the entire experience, all of which has apparently happened in only a very short time (a few of our days) by Siomorium measurement.
      It is not, therefore, extraordinary that “Calling Occupants…” has become and is considered to be one of the most important recordings in human history and is similarly respected among the Siomouriums.

    I knew it wasn't the Beatles as soon as I heard it. The production, arrangement and musical skills of the band are amazing, but the writing is a pale imitation that is derivative to a fault.
    I also think it's pretty dishonest to promote the band as 'maybe we're the Beatles.' I hope the band wasn't in on that.
    My favorite 'Beatle-esque' bands are Badfinger, ELO, and XTC.

      Yeah I think it was mostly about the vocals and some of the production on some of the songs but they don't truly sound like the Beatles. It was just the hype of the moment and the Beatles splitting around that time that caused klaatu to blow up.

    The movie was NOT from 1971. It was from 1951. Get your facts straight before making a documentary video. Just sayin'.
