No! Thank YOU Terry! You and the boys have brought me so much pleasure over the years! You have done so much lately to keep Klaatu alive in our minds and hearts! Ladies and gentlemen & Fellow Tribal Members, may I introduce Mr. Terry Draper of KLAATU! Brother, you ROCK!
When I listened to 3:47 EST I heard a direct reference to the Beatles. "Sub-Rosa Subway" borrows from "It's all to much" from The Yellow Submarine. You can hear the trumpets and the"choo choo " sounds. It's a great song and silent tribute.
Hey Michael, Thanks for doing this one. Klaatu is vastly underrated. I have no idea how ''Routine Day'' and ''Little Neutrino'' is an absolute stunner.
Big Klaatu fan since 1977. I have all their albums. Most of my friends have never heard of them which surprises me. The song Mister Manson is one of my favorite songs.
Dan! I didn’t know you were a fan! Wonderful! Mr. Manson’s “Am I God Almghty” line always creeps me out! It’s great, but man they hi Manson just right!
The first ELO album (with Roy Wood) is for me THE ALBUM that sounds like “this is what the Beatles would have done”. Best channel on TH-cam by the way.
i have heard that song calling occupants of interplanetary craft by carpenters later on i found out that was a klaatu song. but carpenters made that song sound it was their's but it wasn't their song it was klaatu's song both versions sound different.
I remember this so clearly and indeed it was the belief it was the Beatles, we all missed the Fab Four and wanted their return so darn much. As a Canadian Klaatu is a bit of a national treasure for us musicfiles of the Great White North. Karen Carpenter was a beautiful singer, an even more excellent drummer. Michael you mentioned your favorite drummers who I too like, but when it comes to greatest of drummers, Neil Peart is my god of thunder, followed Bonzo, Carl Palmer, Ringo in that order, have a great day my friend take care, Dan!
Thanx Joe! I have all of there albums as well, and listen to them right alongside Led Zeppelin and The Beatles along with all my favorite music from the era! But right alongside those Biggies is Klaatu IMO!
Just wanted to sneak in real quick and say Happy Birthday Robert Plant #74 & still entertaining the hell out of us. Class act Robert. Hope all your wishes come true. We adore you!!!!☮️💜🪶🎤🇬🇧🏴Rock On!!
Hey Michael, thanks for sharing your first-hand experience. I am Canadian and was familiar with the story of Klaatu being mistaken for the Beatles, but being born in 1990, I couldn't experience the album before the rumors were debunked!
I forgot about this band. Never heard a lot of their music, but somewhere along the way someone turned me on to them. Thanks for reminder! I am going to spend some time listening to them today.
There were two parts to my discovery of Klaatu. One was my dad had their debut "3:47 EST" in his record collection and the other was Polyphonic's video on the band from a few years back. After watching that video I decided to check out their music and since then I have collected all 5 of their albums on vinyl, a couple of 7" singles and am a member of the Klaatu Rocks! Facebook group. I consider Klaatu to be up there as one of my favourite bands.
Then you’ll be ecstatic to know drummer and co-writer of ‘Calling Occupants’ of Klaatu himself checked in to our comments section, Lord! I pinned his comment with a reply of my own! Check it out and give him some love!❤️👌🌞🌞🐁
Michael, this was the first time I heard you mention the band Oasis..I mean Oasis in my opinion were the last really hugely successful rock band who were actually quite good listening to AND watching to. The fact their music was from the 90's onwards though for the most people I know had automatically taken away any possibility to be included in the category of "the greatest" ones. But these guys, especially the brothers are one of my personal favorites for lots of reasons. Anyway, I'm watching your videos for some days now, and you are brilliant, man! Such a class! Now I must keep watching you though, so enough with the writing 👍
I like the idea of being part of a tribe on this channel. Reminds me of high school when you hung out with other kids according to musical taste I drifted between metal heads and new wave/punk rockers through most of high school way back in the 80s. 1980s that is.
Absolutely, George! We had Greasers & Heads in school! Greasers were car guys, and heads were music guys! Every head had at least one greaser friend, because they had a car to tool 4th st on Friday & Saturday nights, but the heads had the best stereo systems at home!😉
Wow. Thank you for giving credit to a band that was not the Beatles, but an amazing band on their own. I bought 3:47 when it came out because I was a huge Beatles fan. I loved it, and didn't care if they were or were not the Beatles. Sir Army Suit is my fav. I actually had the artwork re-created by a guy who did paintings for record stores as a graduation gift for me. And I have countless copies of all the LPs and singles on vinyl. My Hope album was cool because the the sleeve had a texture to it.
So did I, MC! I knew it wasn’t when I heard it all the way through, but at that point I didn’t care! I had found one of my favorite new bands! Spent years looking for their fifth missing album, and finally got it back in the early 2000s! Wonderful!
I bought that ALBUM when i was in high school for the same reason. Great movie too .someone wrote a piece on the first album and he thought it sounds like the Beatles could not find who was in the band so he thought it was the BEATLES the rest is history.
I first heard of Klaatu In 1985...!!!! Listened to this album on Cassette...!!!! I found an original copy of the album in 2007 at Black Dog Records In Houston,Tx...!!!! A treasure in my collection...!!!!
So,I bought the first two albums by "K"but when they came out, I knew it was not The Beatles but they sounded interesting enough to buy them...I think most of my generation knew the same, but it was fun to dream.
It was more fun imagining for just a little while that the Beatles would actually meet and record in secret! But they were so BIG! We all thought anything was possible with them, and Klaatu fit the bill for a moment in time! But they were also just so good! They were themselves, and had a sound that is definitely ‘KLAATU’! Thanx, joe!
Great video! I so love that Police Synchrony album cover art and tracks! I think Jeff L. ELO is so underrated. We can't forget about Badfinger! Love them too! I wrote a Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band tribute original song many years ago. I have a demo posted. It's called Kissing Wind. Sure wish you could hear it. It's just a demo Michael but I felt the moment and recorded the moment as I was writing. Great show Michael! Thumbs up and much Beatles love!
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Let's not forget about cheap trick. Huge Beatles influence. I was lucky enough in the 80s to hang out with Robin Zander, Rick Nelson, Bun E Carlos and Tom Peterson for a day. Before the concert, I let Robin use my round mirror sunglasses and mid-later part of the show he threw them back to me in the crowd. Zander is so Beatles.
I visited my best mate from school after he had just emigrated to Toronto in around 1979, and he introduced me to the first Klaatu album. He told me the story about people thinking they were the Beatles and to be fair they sounded very much like them, especially in songs like Sub Rosa Subway (just like McCartney). I think I bought 4 of their albums in all, but on the 4th they went badly astray and starting playing newly in vogue funk type stuff. I hated it. I remember when I bought the first album once I was back in the UK, I had thought to take down the record number in order to present it to a UK store. I told the shop assistant that I wanted to buy a Canadian album by a band called Klaatu and then I gave him the number. 'Oh,' he said, 'That's good. I thought you were gonna start singing it like most of the others do.'
Good Video Michael, i had no idea Klaatu released that many albums. I really only know of them because of the "are they the Beatles" rumour back in the day.
Like I’ve said elsewhere here, I think the backlash they recieved after they were discovered NOT to be The Beatles really hurt them! They however never was part of the narrative that Capital Records put on them unwillingly! In fact their 2nd album was a reaction AGAINST that branding! Thanx, Peter!
Hey Michael !! I only have the debut album by Klaatu I never really explored any further. I will need to keep a eye out for them and check them out. Enjoyed you review and the place in history about the Beatles.
The tall guy in your Beatles pic made the biggest psychedelic difference, thanks for the introduction to Klaatu. I also believe that the Police stole the reggae dub sound from the clash.
To me Klaatu hovered between sounding like The Beatles or Beach Boys with a 10CC pop element and there is the BIG problem. If a band can't stamp a defined sound (not subject matter) the record company & audience will struggle. A band who did not promote or tour their material is only going to fail unless you're a band like Led Zeppelin, but even they had to tour.
Hi Michael. I came to your channel by way of your Beatles content (I am a new subscriber), as I too love The Beatles, my second favorite band behind only Pink Floyd. When I saw your high regard for the band Klaatu I was a bit perplexed, since despite being 59 years old, I can honestly say I had never heard a single song from (including the Karen Carpenter cover despite being a big fan of hers). Upon watching this video and being not only a Beatles fans, but a huge fan of The Police, I had to check out this band. I spent the afternoon listening to the entire 5 album Klaatu discography one after another and all I can say is WOW!!! I can see why you hold them in such high regard brother! There is literally not one track on any of the 5 albums that are skips until the 5 seconds at the end of the fifth album. The middle three albums are especially awesome. What is amazing about their songs is the variety of instruments and styles and the fact that each song literally grabs you from the start. I am a convert and love this band! The strange part is their lack of critical acclaim given the tremendous songs in their discography. I am not ready to put them in my top 13 bands of all time, but I can sure see why you have found a place for them in yours! Thanks for turning me on to this great music and thanks for doing what you do on your channel.
I’m confused by people unsubscribing from your channel because of the Robert Plant video?!? I loved that video because I’m going back and revisiting his old solo music and checking out that album you referenced. Kinda forgot about Robert Plant…😕
I think it was my comments on Gene Simmons that upset some, Darin! KISS at their best were good, at their worst inadequate! But this Phase 2 sh#t has gotta stop, Darin!
Believe it or not, Michael, until this video, I had never even heard of this band. I'll forever credit you with my discovery of them! Thanks for your viewpoint & videos! 👍
John you just made my day, bro! Thank you! BTW: Terry Draper, Klaatu’s drummer checked into the comments! I pinned it, so be sure to give him some love!❤️
In 1980 I remember listening to my FM radio hearing Klaatu's minor hit song Paranoia, (or at least it was sang in the chorus) off of Endangered Species album, sounded very Alan Parsons style. It was the only Klaatu song I ever heard on the radio.
I’ve got to admit I really love the Carpenters cover of their Calling Occupant’s track ! Many people really believed this was made by the Fabs. Very Beatley band thou which clearly was their intention, but yes maybe a possible influence to the Police , I can definitely hear it! Great stuff and certainly something you don’t here about much anymore!
Not sure what’s to hate about oasis 🤷♂️ they’re terrific. I was raised on the Beatles and am aware of Klaatu and their story. Some of their stuff is really great and stands on its own. Some of it is very generic 70’s music but the good stuff is really good.
Thanks plenty for this insight. Never heard of these guys here in Northern Europe. Sounds good so we will have to try and find some of their music here.
I once saw an interview with Patricia Neal and she stated that when they did the scenes where she had to repeat her Klaatu, barrad nikto line, they had to do multiple takes because she couldn't stop laughing as she thought the line was so silly. The live album in the UmmaGumma set by Floyd is still my fave psych rock album. I used to be a huge Floyd fan, saw them three times, once in Carnegie hall. After Dark Side, except for Animals, I could take them or leave them.
Heard of Klaatu when they first released their first album, really liked them (and I bought their first two albums). Never believed the "it's the Beatles" rumors. Liked their music.
OMG when I saw the name "Klaatu" my mind immediately went back to 1978. That is when my friend Jim introduced me to this band! Guess what? He was a BIG Paul McCartney (and Beatle) fan! Go figure Mike LOL
I am old enough to remember when the first Klaatu LP was released (re-titled "Klaatu" in Australia). I was 16 at the time. There was an article in the local Sunday paper discussing the rumour it was a long lost Beatles album, originally to be called "Hot As Sun", recorded after Sgt Pepper but before the White Album. At least, that is the rumour we got in Australia. Being a huge Beatles fan I went out that week and purchased a copy. I listened intently for any confirmation that this is a long lost Beatles album. Although there were many "Beatlesque" moments, I realised fairly quickly it wasn't the Beatles. No matter, it was a great album. Many years went by and I was a DJ on a community radio station. The most popular songs on the LP are "Calling Occupants" and "Sub-Rosa Subway", but I chose to play one of my personal favourites, the rocking "True Life Hero". I played it a few times during my time at the station, as well as "Sub-Rosa Subway" on at least one occasion.
Wow, how many times do you get an accolade on a YT video, from the subject artist! Thanks Terry Draper, for interjecting here, and much more importantly, making music that is the soundtrack of my youth. 3:47 EST is one of a few albums that are on my permanent playlist.
I’d heard of Klaatu because I owned the soundtrack album from a long-forgotten CBS show called Due South, and Klaatu was on it. But I had no idea the band’s catalog is this good. Thanks for the heads-up, my man. I’ll be digging into Klaatu.
I seen a carpenters documentary years ago on PBS. A session guitarist mentioned Karen had called him at 1:00 AM to come record guitar solo. He couldn't believe she called him. Excited he goes studio sets up, plugs in starts playing what he thinks the carpenters want to hear. Karen says just play the way you normally play. He turns up adds fuzz. I forget the name of the song. The guy'said he believed Karen carpenter was responsible for radio ballads adding over the top guitar solos.
Being Canadian and a Beatles fan I was all over this band when they first debuted. I currently own 4 of their 5 albums. Another clue for you all--- Ringo's "Goodnight Vienna" was seen as a clue to Klaatu's hidden Beatle's identity because of the "Day The earth Stood Still" motif. On Hope's cover you see the sun image from the debut lp lying in ruin in the foreground. And of course their mascot the mouse appears throughout. He appears at the end of the first album and re-appears at the beginning of Hope. Juicy Lucy is a great tune from Sir Army Suit that garnered some air time up here. As usual, a great presentation here, Michael. Thank you! 👍😎
I had to actually order their 5th album decades after constantly looking for it from the band themselves! The lost and holy grail of all rock procurements for me, Rachel!
Thanks, great video. We had a local record shop in the late 70's I would go to on an almost weekly basis, the guy there knew I was a Beatles fan, so he got me all the import versions. In 78 he suggested "Sir Army Suit", wow what a great album, afterwards I got "3:47est" & "Hope", great stuff, absolutely they should've been bigger.
I disagee. Revolver had the first psychedelic type songs with Harrison playing the earliest backwards lead guitar parts. Tomorrow Never Knows, Yellow Submarine and Rain, which was recorded during the sessions, used many new effects and techniques. Automatic double tracking, use of a Leslie speaker on vocals , and tape loops were some other new element they incorporated. Geoff Emerick was the sound engineer, and worked with them for the first time. He contributed many new ideas.
Actually I'm amending my statement. I forgot all about my boy Jeff Beck and the Yardbirds released Shapes of Things jn early February 1966. Clearly the blueprint for all rock guitar to come. His use of feedback, note bending and distortion made electric guitarists take notice. His solo line with its middle eastern like descending riff ending with a blast of distortion, would be emulated a few months later by Paul McCartney on Taxman. The Byrds released Eight Miles High a couple weeks after Shapes, also predated Revolver. Another note on Revolver. It was the first Beatles album to not use the word love or write about it in any of its songs.
Great video. I bought all their albums, starting in 1977 after I read in a music magazine about them. I am a big Beatles fan. To me their highlights are Hope, brilliant psychedelic rock and Sir Army Suit, maybe in the top ten of perfect pop albums. Terribly underrated group. A pity they never got a chance, slammed for the Beatles rumor they did not create. I never understood why they never got back together. Especially John Wolochuk is a fantastic songwriter. A wasted genius! I am very proud to own the remastered CD of Sir Army Suit with their signatures.
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine I really wished these three geniuses would come together one more time for an album and tour. I think today they will have an audience. They are cult to many around the world.
You didn't delve into how the band ended up with the "Beatles reformed" designation. "On February 17, 1977, a feature headlined ‘Could Klaatu Be Beatles? Mystery Is A Magical Tour’, written by Steve Smith, a young journalist working for Rhode Island daily newspaper the Providence Journal, changed everything." This was something the band had to deal with as they recorded their 2nd album in England. Thanks for the focus on Klaatu.
I am aware of the article! It always sounded a bit like the ‘Is Paul Dead’ kinda press article that at first helped and later hindered this wonderful band, S! Never understood the disappointment by fan, after them accepting bands like Badfinger & ELO! But Rock fans can be a fickle bunch! But in the end we at least got 5 full studio albums by them! I searched for years for Magentalane!
Your in depth and informative analysis is a must for the younger ones who need to know where today’s music is coming from. But, great stuff, you are an asset to the TH-cam community! I just spent 36.57 minutes listening to 1976 album. I see no connection to the Beatles.
Al I can say, is listen to them, C! They were huge as long as people thought they were The Beatles! I think fans felt fooled and resented it! They never tried to fool fans, it was Capital Records! They still put out 5 trust classic albums!
Fun fact related to this…the Carpenters covered their song…the main character in Day the Earth Stood Still, played by Michael Rennie, who says the Klaatu line, was named Mr. Carpenter. Also, I think Klaatu was the robot’s name.
Klaatu was Michael Ronnie’s character in that film! Mr Carpenter was a reference to Jesus, since Klaatu is resurrected in the film! Great piece of analogous film-making, John!
Yeah, my bad…Gort is the robot’s name…have not seen it for a couple of years…I knew of the Jesus reference. Robert Wise is one of my all time fav directors…The Haunting is one of my all time favorites …he has at least one classic in almost every genre.
Another interesting cross reference with the Beatles..Ringo’s Goodnight Vienna solo album cover pictures Ringo dressed as Klaatu on the spaceship with Gort the robot.
Greetings Michael ✌️ Great video on Klattu, They remind me of another band called Stackridge. On the topic of Psychedelia the only band I can think of nowadays that embraces Psychedelic sounds is Tame Impala, and I like alot of what they do.👍
I love Klaatu. When "Hope" came out I was honestly disappointed and gave up on them. Years later I listened to it again and finally realized what an amazing album it was and now it's my favorite album of theirs.
thank-you michael for bringing this near mythical band to the forefront (2022 style) your research was a labor of love. i remember buying their first lp because i liked the cover (it was just known as klaatu in massachusetts-not 3:47 est, elsewhere) in 1976. i brought it home, opened up the shrink wrap, put on some headphones-got slightly "altered" and after the first song i was hooked. i bought every lp after this when they were released. i loved how they had the little mouse and the smiling sun face as a continuing theme on each lp and that you didn't know who the band members were or what they looked like or who wrote the songs until much later-a total mystery! which only added to their mystique. the musicianship was superb. i even own the first greatest hits compilation on vinyl which i believe is their final release (the little mouse on the smiling sun face in outer space). sorry i'm replying so late, i've watched this edition several times. thanks again AND! terry draper replied-how COOL is that! where's buttonville?
You know Michael, I really appreciate all of your videos. Even when I don't agree, it makes me think. That's important! Not everyone is always going to agree with one's perspective? And that's what this channel is? Your perspective of things on a musical note(so to speak)? That's cool, when you get right down to it? Ahh the internet huh? Everybody's got an opinion, everyone has got something to say? You take it all in stride I guess? So again Michael, thank YOU for continued GREAT content! I look forward to the next video, whenever that is?
Great work, as usual, and thanks for your work Micheal. To me, this band is a discovery, because while I was born in the early 70's, the "Beatles era" was never mine. I discovered some bands of that era way later (in the late 80's-early 90's), and as in the past it was not always as easy to get recomanded less "mainstream" bands, I had my Doors, The Who, Beach Boys, Eagles, and more french music from the mid-late 70's. So I gave a very quick listening on Spotify, and that's probably a band I will go explore. Not my stuff really, but that seems pretty good, and when you said experimental, I was reluctant to give it a try, because I was more thinking like the Velvet Underground or the more extreme early 70's, stuff that I'm truely not a fan of. This however seems a good balance for my taste. Stay safe and thanks once more for your work.
Thanx Haileene! Yeah this band didn’t just sound kinda like the Beatles, they pretty much aligned their whole stylistic approach to that Veatle Sound, but each and every song doesn’t sound like any particular Beatle song! Amazing!
Thanks for this! I was in Cleveland (grew up there) listening to the late, great WMMS, and I heard 3:47 EST. Yeah , kind of Beatles-ish but not them, of course. Still, it’s a good album. I never got around to their other albums for budgetary reasons, and it’s nice to know they had other albums. There’s still psychedelic explorations out there. The band retired a few years ago, but there is Yeasayer, one of the bands out of Brooklyn. Great albums and very psychedelic in most songs. I saw them in concert three times, and they put on a great show too, Yeasayer also has a Beatles influence to it. They are a “name the influences” kind of band where you can deconstruct their music and find pieces of influence all through. I find them to be both nostalgic and refreshingly new at the same time! Or as a stoner friend said back in the day (originally about theBakshi Lord of the Rings movie): “It’s like a deja vu premonition, man!” My husband and I still quote this over 40 years later, lol!
I was 16 when there first album came out bought it and it wasn't removed from my turntable for 3 months. Songwriting was insanely great , but when Hope came out to me it's still in my top 5. These guys were songwriting geniuses. That album blew me away. Thanks for doing this. They should have been one of the biggest bands at the time. Thanks again!!!!
I'm glad there is a video that has more to say about this band than the polyphonic video because they're still very underrated. I listen to a lot of psychedelic music and I think there is plenty of bands that embrace psychedelia but go unnoticed. If there was any psychedelic band I'd want to be addressed more than klaatu it would be Spiritualized. It feels to me that Spiritualized is the rock and roll band every band should strive to be and everyone forgot about them after they made their album Ladies and Gentlemen We're Floating in Space - a space/psych rock album filled with trippy and distorted guitar effects infused with orchestral symphonies that can crescendo into pure noise or can be very soft, lyrics that talk about love and drugs, and gospel inspired elements with organs and choirs singing in the background on the very first song, it quite literally is to me the full package and I think their output present day can still be comparable to even their magnum opus. Spiritualized to me is one of the most consistent and underrated bands of all time. Please do cover them if you have the time.
I’ve heard about this band , now I’m going to my local record store to buy their first album! Shout out to cactus records in Houston. Mike you must have PhD in rock.
Another great video Michael! I’d honestly never even heard of Klaatu before hearing your commentary on them, but spent the afternoon checking out some of their songs, and I love what I’m hearing so far! Would love to hear your thoughts on the band Badfinger and what would have become of them if they’d been able to keep going
Badfinger is definitely coming, Stephen! And guess what? Terry Draper, Klaatu’s drummer and o co-writer of ‘Calling Occupants’ checked into the comments! I pinned it, so check it out and give him some love, bro!
Toronto during the seventies was cool and 'Sub Rosa Subway' is still a fave of mine. Great history lesson... "... from frescoed walls and goldfish fountains... " But also a great tribute to the Sgt. Pepper's era Beatles.
Wow,Michael….I’ve never heard of this band before! I knew Badfinger was supposed to sound like The Beatles, but this is a new band to me. I will have to check them out. I trust your taste, and if you think they’re that good, then I’ve got to investigate them!
Hi Helene! If you check out my pinned comment, you’ll notice that Klaatu’s drummer and the songwriter of Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft, commented! This was such a big deal to me! He was a classic Rock hero of mine! He made my day! Another thing, he said I was accurate! That was an even bigger deal, as I do a lot of research for my videos. It was nice to hear though!😉❤️👌
Thanks Michael... Informative and accurate.
No! Thank YOU Terry! You and the boys have brought me so much pleasure over the years!
You have done so much lately to keep Klaatu alive in our minds and hearts!

3:47 EST has definitely become one of my favorite albums of all time.
Thanks for discussing Klatuu. They don’t get enough recognition.

The Hope album really resonated with me.

How could anybody confuse them with the Beatles.

I loved Klaatu... I NEVER thought that were the Beatles, though I heard people thought they were... weird
My brothers knew a guy who had all of the records by this band.We All the same thing, THIS is the Beatles.
They sure sounded like them, but each song is never an outright rip-off!
One reason is they have any credits listed
Love their first three albums. Hope is my favorite from Klaatu.
The first ELO album (with Roy Wood) is for me THE ALBUM that sounds like “this is what the Beatles would have done”.
Best channel on TH-cam by the way.
ELO rocks, Quigley! Jeff Lynn the a one-man-band!
I still have my album. I'm 62. Love that first album.
Hey Willie! Check out Terry Draper’s (KLAATU’s Drummer) comment pinned to the top of the comments here! Send him some love in that comment and say hi!
Holy crap, this does seem fitting but I still didn't think you'd do a vid on Klaatu. Criminally underrated. Thanks Mike
They are one of my very favorite bands!
I’d call them my guilty pleasure, but I don’t FEEL guilty! Thanx, Oregrug!
i have heard that song calling occupants of interplanetary craft by carpenters later on i found out that was a klaatu song. but carpenters made that song sound it was their's but it wasn't their song it was klaatu's song both versions sound different.
I never was a fan of their version. Especially because they misunderstood the meaning of the song and turned it into a standard alien invasion song
Klaatu's version is miles better imo. One of the best songs ever made
I remember this so clearly and indeed it was the belief it was the Beatles, we all missed the Fab Four and wanted their return so darn much.

Reminds me of high school when you hung out with other kids according to musical taste
I drifted between metal heads and new wave/punk rockers through most of high school way back in the 80s. 1980s that is.
Absolutely, George! We had Greasers & Heads in school! Greasers were car guys, and heads were music guys! Every head had at least one greaser friend, because they had a car to tool 4th st on Friday & Saturday nights, but the heads had the best stereo systems at home!😉
Can't believe you did a video on Klaatu. I was just thinking about them today. Much if how that first album came about wasn't known for years.
I’ve intended to do a video on them right from the outset, but needed to get the channel established! More bands like this to come in the future, h!
Great episode Michael! I bought the Klaatu album when It came out thinking it was The Beatles.
So did I, MC! I knew it wasn’t when I heard it all the way through, but at that point I didn’t care! I had found one of my favorite new bands!
Spent years looking for their fifth missing album, and finally got it back in the early 2000s! Wonderful!
Thanks! ✌☮
Thank you too Cam, I sure appreciate your support1 ❤️
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Thanks for the Thanksgiving hee hee. 👍👍🖖🖖✌✌☮☮
I bought that ALBUM when i was in high school for the same reason. Great movie too .someone wrote a piece on the first album and he thought it sounds like the Beatles could not find who was in the band so he thought it was the BEATLES the rest is history.
Alfred Beach would’ve turn over in his grave if they HAD turned out to be The Beatles!
Thanx, joe!
@@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine side note: I still have the 1st 2 Klaatu albums in my collection, both in Mint shape!
It’s amazing how much obvious and well deserved success Badfinger & ELO had, and yet this band was kind of ignored!
Well your spot on with you stating that Klaatu are a major player in rock n roll history They should be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame .
LOL! Poor guy probably hear that song waaay too many times, Paul!
Hey Zeppearl! Check out Klaatu’s drummer’s response to my video!
I pinned his comment to the top of the comments! Check it out and send him some love!
The tall guy in your Beatles pic made the biggest psychedelic difference, thanks for the introduction to Klaatu.
I also believe that the Police stole the reggae dub sound from the clash.
The Police took everything from everybody! That was their genius, Robbie! What an era! Thanx!❤️
Thanks for turning me on to this great music and thanks for doing what you do on your channel.
... and then there was (were ?)The Masked Marauders. Another rumor band from back in the day.
I’m also a very big Alan Parsons fan as well! More on them soon, Edf!👌
BTW Dave, Terry Draper the co-writer of that song and drummer for Klaatu checked into the comments! I pinned his comment, so check it out!
You will not be disappointed, Alex! They ARE on iTunes, all 5 albums!❤️
Just the audacity for a film to actually name the lead in the film Klaatu was weird! Oh well, at least she’s still the first Walton’s Mom!
I have periodically heard of these guys and had been intrigued. Will definitely consider adding them to the collection.
Note that their drummer Terry Draper checked in as a comment or, Steve! I pinned his comment! Blew my freakin’ mind, bro!
I look forward to each and every video.
Thanx, Robert!❤️✌️👍
Heard of Klaatu when they first released their first album, really liked them (and I bought their first two albums). Never believed the "it's the Beatles" rumors. Liked their music.
I just recently checked out Klaatu. Im very impressed and not sure why I didnt hear of them in the 1970s. I bought their first 4 albums.
“Klaatu”; the name was their first mistake. I will check them out if possible. (Rush actually made SF-inspired thoughts work on 2112.). Thanks, man.
Ya gotta wonder if “Klaatu! Baratta Nikto!” Actually meant “Don’t call us Klaatu!”, Jay!
I absolutely adore your passion for this music, this is a brilliant video about a criminally underrated and innovative group of brilliant musicians!
Great video about a great band Michael. They also remind me a little of ELO too.
Me too, Paul! It’s a shame though!
They got the blame and ELO got the fame!😉👌
In suburban Toronto ten years ago you could buy their vinyl records cheap. Should have bought them.
I had heard a little about this band. But glad you did this. Very informative.
OMG when I saw the name "Klaatu" my mind immediately went back to 1978. That is when my friend Jim introduced me to this band! Guess what? He was a BIG Paul McCartney (and Beatle) fan! Go figure Mike LOL
And so was I, g! BTW: Klaatu’s Drummer Terry Fraper checked into the comments! I pinned his comment! Check it out!
I'm surprised you've never done a video on Badfinger, they were so attached to the Beatles back when.
Badfinger is coming, Pedro! Soon!
Michael ..I absolutely LOVE your vids.
Thanx, Lionheart! I appreciate your kind words!
Lionheart! Sorry for calling you Michael! I corrected that! BTW: Terry Draper from Klaatu checked in! I pinned his comment. Check it out!
Thanx, Chris!
By the ay their drummer Terry Draper sent his thumbs up and approval! Check out his comment! I pinned it, so send him some love!
Great story here, Danny! Wonderful!
How cool is that! 👍😎
Can’t see why you would lose subscribers. Your content and knowledge and presentation is great. Keep up the great work 👍👍
You’re right, Rico!
And I cover many of those aspects in my other Beatle related videos!❤️👌😉
I never got why do many were fooled.I never thought it was the Fabs. I thought the album sucked.
I believe that John retired from the business and opened up his own accounting firm, Eckhard! At least I read that somewhere!
Hard to find album but eBay has them! Well worth having in your collection 🙂
So does iTunes, btw, Kevin!👌❤️
I was seriously into Klaatu and never thought they sounded like the Beatles.
How come nobody has ever heard of them? Most really good or moderately classic rock bands from this era are still played.
@@johnclaeys9514 Yes he does, John! He’s even got a Star Trek movie to his name! The Haunting is a classic, unlike the remake from the 90s! Thanx!😉
Another interesting cross reference with the Beatles..Ringo’s Goodnight Vienna solo album cover pictures Ringo dressed as Klaatu on the spaceship with Gort the robot.
"Calling occupants of interplanet ......."
Greetings Michael ✌️ Great video on Klattu, They remind me of another band called Stackridge. On the topic of Psychedelia the only band I can think of nowadays that embraces Psychedelic sounds is Tame Impala, and I like alot of what they do.👍
Tame Impala is great, Ernie!
I'll have to check out this band.
You know Michael, I really appreciate all of your videos.
Even when I don't agree, it makes me think. That's important!
Not everyone is always going to agree with one's perspective?
And that's what this channel is? Your perspective of things on
a musical note(so to speak)? That's cool, when you get right
down to it? Ahh the internet huh? Everybody's got an opinion,
everyone has got something to say? You take it all in stride
I guess? So again Michael, thank YOU for continued GREAT
content! I look forward to the next video, whenever that is?
Thanx so much Jeff!
Like I’ve said before, the real action of channel isn’t in the videos, it’s right here in the comments!
1st time hearing Klaatu was in Denver. Excellent rock from album Sir Army Suit.. Older, Silly Boys, Mr. Manson Dear Christine😊
Amazing!
Great video !! You have to admit, They did sound like The Beatles :)
Absolutely, Jeffrey! BTW: Terry Draper their drummer checked in to the tribe! I pinned his comment, so check it out! He obviously made my year, bro!
Deja vu Premonition! I love it Carol!
Absolutely one of my favorite bands, right up there with Bad Finger and far too many more to name.
I've been a big fan from the beginning......I think they are drastically underrated.
I’ve heard about this band , now I’m going to my local record store to buy their first album! Shout out to cactus records in Houston. Mike you must have PhD in rock.
Everybody say hi to Cactus Records there in Houston! Thanx George!
Another Beatlesque band that got some buzz in 1977 was Blue.
I’ll check them out Scott! Thanx!
That record caused quite a stir! We thought it was the Beatles!🤙
Yeah, the ONLY correct Beatles era split is: early, mid, psychedelic, late!
Great vid. Cheers 👍
