Laila is the blues queen on Grafton St, and not just since this performance. She doesn't just cover these songs, she feels them. You can hear it and see it in her charisma. Hey Sean: first Candy now Leila Jane! You certainly have a talent for seeking out new fresh Grafton Street talent. The song of course was Elvis Presley‘s first great hit in the early 50s. It still sounds great to this day. Especially the original way she performed it with that nice raspy growling effect added in.
Elvis' first hit was "That's alright Mama". And Leila Jane has been a shining light on Grafton street for some time. Just so you know. 🙂
Hi Mark: I was referring to heartbreak Hotel as Elvis’s first “ GREAT hit” that sold about 3,000,000 copies. But “that’s alright “ ( no “mama “ on the end in the sun label recording ) was an earlier hit as you point out but sold only 20,000 copies by comparison , so most people would not call that a “great” hit. Regarding Leila Jane, I watch a lot of Grafton St artist but somehow missed her until this song. I went back to you tube and liked a lot of her earlier plays like “ going up the country”.

she simply has an intense love and respect for the music that inspired her (I re-watched last years interview on Saint Stephens Green before posting)
Like you I believe her time will come and deservedly so when you listen to her original material......magic can happen ! back in 2014 a friend of mine was taken to Nashville as part of the BBC introducing acts at the Americana Music Festival & Conference......she has since release EP's and a debut album but busy being a mum at the moment......
I have my hopes, as I am sure you do, for Leila ......a superb artist & lovely person with a Gentle Soul !
