I love that Old Man Kohli worked SO HARD to get into a teen's head, and not only did the teen clearly get into his head instead, he lost 20% of his match fee for it.
Match Fee? Is that like a fine ?
@@bobheyotue9850It's their pay. Kohli lost 20% of his pay for the match.
@@bobheyotue9850 Match fee is what he charges the Indian team to play for them, he had to give up 20% as a fine for bad sportsmanship.

This started during covid. There were no sports in the US so he started covering other parts of the world.
Yeah, Good job, Jomboy. I rate your Carey/Bairstow vid as well.
The genius thing about Konstas' ramp shots is that everyone (including Konstas for the first few overs) had tried to play Bumrah with the traditional forward defence, but it wasn't working at all. Instead of playing into that match up where Bumrah was dominating he started attempting this unorthodox ramp shot.
Eventually India got rattled and moved 2 fielders to positions pretty much exclusively anti-ramp shot (third man and fine leg). But then Konstas simply didn't hit the ramp again! India kept them back there the rest of the time Konstas faced Bumrah, and even pre-emptively put some fielders back for other bowlers as well even though Konstas never even attempted to ramp them.
With those fielders taken out of traditional positions the traditional shots become safer and more lucrative! Mishits that would have been caught at 3rd slip instead went into empty space!
It all looked like madness, and it would have looked very stupid if he'd gotten out on the first attempt, but he executed the shot and made India change their winning tactics.
Trust me it looks stupid already

Indian fan here. Kohli was always the villian and an all-round asshole. At the risk of generalising, I'd go as far as to say that such crude behaviour is part of the culture in Delhi. However, till date he had the god given talent to back up his trash talk by putting runs on the board. At 36, he's all bark, no bite.
@@footloosegoose7463 yeah he's pretty much done imo (maybe only at test level), he should have prolly gotten a ban too, but i guess the uproar would have been huge

@ yeah that’s how sport works bro 😂
Another point on the bump; in cricket you are not allowed to walk on the pitch, otherwise you will be punished/ penalised (there only being a couple of exceptions such as if you are actively fielding the ball).
So when konstas gets bumped, he literally isn't allowed to move further left or he risks being punished, and kholi knows that and gives konstas no space.
The point of not walking on the pitch is to not unduly damage the playing surface and give bowlers the opportunity to land the ball in this new 'foot mark' and have the ball change its trajectory and deceive the batsman.
You typically see this policed when bowlers take too many steps on the middle of the pitch after releasing the ball, when batsman don't veer off the pitch fast enough when deciding to take a run, or when fielders decide to cross the pitch unnecessarily (not actively fielding the ball).
You're not allowed to walk in the centre of the pitch. You are allowed to walk down the edges of the pitch. He had plenty of space. He had more than a metre.
@@amireallythatgrumpy6508 kontas had heaps of room, could have even walked to the other side, kohli is just an arsehole
@@Othraerir Why would he walk to the other side when he was going to meet his batting partner?
I was chuckling for most of the series over how rattled India were by a teenager. Aside from the Perth Test that was a dominant tour by Australia and the young talent coming up is unreal. Kohli should have retired when he was well regarded and respected, his clowning all series has damaged his legacy for good. Not to mention how badly he performed.
Can you please do a breakdown of kohlis dismissals in this series. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a professional get out the same way EVERY SINGLE TIME
That was probably the funniest part of the series. Australia just worked out how to get Kohli out for low runs and he fell for it every time.
What rubs salt in the wounds even more is that punter said days before the series is that kohli has a really weak spot on 7th stump and that he must make some runs this series after a recent slump and it made headlines in India like it was blasphemy. And what do you know he goes out exactly like punter said he would every single time whilst making stuff all runs . Punter is a cricket oracle. If he says it, it’s going to happen
Shhhhh...we don't mention Greg Chappell when talking about a run of outs...

I have been hanging out for this for a couple of weeks - thank you so much Jomboy. It was awesome to listen to - cricket on the radio is a real thing.
Best part about this whole innings is that Konstas permanently rattled the India team, not just in this match but the one after as well. They were all hyper-emotional and fixated on him, their heads weren't in the game at all, leading to a 3-1 series victory for Aus. All because one cocky teenager was living in India's heads rent free because of a few ramp shots.
And the Indian fans on Twitter were having a meltdown all week. It was phenomenal. I expected them I. This comment section too but apparently they don’t watch jomboy
As a West Indies fan, this was so refreshing to see. This test was one for the history books because of the ebbs and flows.

I was hoping you would cover this incident, Jomboy delivers! Konstas' little onslaught changed the entire complexion of the series by making Bumrah seem human again to the Australians. Bumrah still threatened to win the series for India singlehandedly, but the rest of the batters finally seemed to have a clear plan of how to bat against him, and he was only getting the better of them most of the time, instead of all of the time.
@@sahanavica.5574 You mean after he went for 3 for plenty in Adelaide?
Another thing you gotta factor in is Bumrah got overworked. He even told Rohit in the 4th Test that he was unable to generate power.
Jomboy, someone at Foxtel and Channel Seven in Australia needs to to invite you to be a guest commentator/analyst for a test series. Your analysis is often better than theirs! That 8-way split screen showing how the same setup (in cricket, we call it a "batting stance") leads to those 8 different shots, is better than anything I have seen from those networks - and your lip reading is next-level stuff.

It's because he wasn't able to play him at all and then started to play fluke luck based shots which kinda worked for him but later on he got exposed badly.
The morning of the first day of the test, almost 90K ppl there, series tied 1-1... and this kid set the tone in the opening hour! Ended up being one of the best test finishes ever on the last day, attended by the most people over the 5 days in Australia ever.

Attitude and sportsman spirit makes up heroes in cricket, Kohli ain't one of them. Zeroes out the achievements.

If any part of that ball touches the bat and gloves (like a foul tip in baseball) and is caught by the wicket-keeper the batsman is out. Cricket is a game of milimeters. They even used thermal cameras up until recently to see if the ball made any contact with the bat until India started complaining about it.
Konstas basically took the script of how an opening batsman should play (wait until you get used to the pace, don't make rash shot selections, get the ball worn out a bit and let the bowlers tire themselves out before starting to smack the ball around) and flipped it on its head. Great to see, IMO.

Also important to note in regards to the shoulder bump, players are not allowed walk on the pitch. Konstas had a little bit wiggle room, but in the wide shot if you watch Kohli's line the angle he took to get to Konstas would of put him on pitch.
And it was the first time in ages that Bumrah got hit for 6 in a test. Once Konstas did it the Aus team's confidence grew and more players took him on for the big hits.

The fact Kohli only got a 20% match fee fine for this was disgraceful. Untouchable.
Konstas has even managed to get under the skin of a few Poms - who claim he is a poor imitation of their beloved BazBall…..
Bumrah was on fire throughout this series, and Konstas decided with the bravery of youth to take the attack up to the Indian champion, rather than the method applied by Khawaja, Labuschagne and the other debutant McSweeney in the first three tests of trying to defend, survive and then attack once the ball lost its shine and Bumrah tired. It didn’t work for those guys, so Konstas tried a different approach.
Can't blame the English for sweating knowing their Test team has to come out next summer to face Australia at home with Konstas pretty much guaranteed a spot in the side.
No he hasn't ...I've not read or heard that anywhere ...we know we are going to lose, we are in a massive transition at the moment..in fact all I've heard and seen is good things about the young lad ..but anything to make you feel better about yourself
@@alopry11 With Brook, Duckett and Root around, the batting looks solid. Pope, Bethel, Stokes, and especially the wk Jamie Smith are among the runs as well. If they somehow manage to play a fit Wood with Atkinson and maybe Carse?...this would be probably their best shot at the Ashes since 2010/11 (in Aus). Let's be real, after the 13-14 disaster, everyone pretty much expected the 4-0 scorelines of both the subsequent Ashes series.
@@alopry11 Also, don't overlook the possibility of Starc retiring after this WTC cycle ends. He's been the best bowler of the Ashes and on top of that, Lyon performs better when Starc plays due to those footmarks, and obviously brings variety to the attack. The Aussie batters aren't performing either, all of which builds up to an exciting Ashes series coming later this year.
@@adarshxd6274 I agree, this is the best placed England have been for an away Ashes since 10/11. I feel like this Australia team is all round better in form than in that edition, but the difference to me is that England have been playing flatter pitches at home, focusing on pace and so probably have their best ever lineup for actually winning matches on Australian pitches. Half of their batting lineup are playing BBL as well, so used to conditions. I'd be very surprised if they don't at least win a match this time around.
It's morbidly fascinating to me, listening to a yank talk about cricket and actually knowing what he's talking about including the nuances. Enjoyable. More please!
I’m started to get interested in learning the rules of cricket after seeing so many of these breakdowns.
There's a good video called 'Cricket Explained for baseball fans' you can look up. It's 15 minutes long and covers pretty much everything.
Thats not only poor sportsmanship from Indian players, just poor play overall. Dont care what Australian players did in the past, we gotta be better. Konstas did great tbf
to be fair it was only Virat and Siraj who acted poorly. Jaiswal was fine, there was harmless banter between him and Starc and the rest of India's side were well behaved too...as were our guys.
Jomboy, the transition at 7:00 is beautiful. Worth the effort
I’m sad back at work.. thinking back to this time of day drinking, swimming, hanging out, and watching the test cricket.
1:12, thats what she said!!!
I'm loving your Cricket coverage! Keep it up!
Your cricket breakdowns make me want to watch a cricket game proper one of these days
thats some really great and fun commentary for someone who is isnt an old timer cricket fan!
Sat up to watch it live at 2am. Was yelling at the TV as it was an absolutely crazy knock on debut but got in the Indian heads big time. Changed the narrative for the last few games
I love how you have really embraced cricket! Listening to your lingo & jargon improve is awesome! Keep it up mate!
Bumrah had not had a 6 hit against him for over 6,000 balls and Konstas hit 2 against him - Gotta laugh
3:10 in modern day test match to get hit for a 6 after 4562 balls by a 19 year old debutant is insane
that match cut at 7:01... *chef's kiss*
This was so exciting to watch live. Such a high pressure test debut too because the Boxing Day test is such a cultural phenomenon in Aus
love this, exposes india team for what they are.
As an Aussie , I played grade cricket in my youth (1 level under Sheffield shield ) . Cricket is Australia 🇦🇺 national sport and our record reflects that
However , we have produced sone grubs of the game - ie - David Warner / Michael Clarke
But Kohli is the ultimate grub . As an opening batsman myself , I would have shunted little virat into the air .
Kohli is rated s the most despised player - after Warner in the world game .
The great thing is that the ramp shot didn't exist ten years ago. It is an entirely new invention, created by T20, and now happening in test cricket
Not totally true. Douglas Marillier of Zimbabwe did something not totally dissimilar about 20 years ago.
It was called the Dilscoop ten years go. Best ramp I've ever seen though is McCullum v Shaun Tait in 2010.
It's not so bad in test cricket, where the game is not so blatantly batter-biased, but it's no longer a novelty and to me emphasizes just how disadvantaged the bowler in shorter formats - they can likewise switch hands when it's too late for the bowler to do anything, bats they use where even mishits go for 6, etc.
Look up Ryan Campbell, Western Australia 2001-2002. There were three competent rampers around this time. First T20 was played in 2006.
@@flamingfrancis First T20 was played in 2005. February 17 is the 20th anniversary of the first T20I.
All those Indians live in Canada, I mean India 2.0 😂
