In Philippines EVO HELMET are very popular, but a lot of people are not quite sure about it's durability, I hope you can test that brand of helmet for our own safety as well! Thanks a lot in advance and more power to your channel!
Great test, but is there any way y'all could perhaps do a more realistic expensive vs cheap helmet test? Test a high dollar Arai against a more affordable HJC or something like that. At least both of those are real, reputable helmets. An HJC is what I can afford. How much is my safety being compromised by using a $250 helmet instead of a $1000 helmet?
It's a good idea! We have done a couple things like that - putting a Shoei Hornet X2 up against an Icon Variant, etc. But testing a helmet around $100 would be even more interesting. ~RF9
That would be great. At least make sure the cheap helmet is actually a street legal, real helmet. It seems like in this case, the shipping material for the cheap helmet was most appropriate.
None. Shoei, Arai, you are paying for prestige and a bunch of bullshit features you dont need, and their marketing. You can get a SNELL rated HJC helmet for $150, that recieved just as good ratings by Gov and Snell, as a 500-800$ Shoei. I fell for the trap/marketing. I bought a Shoei Rf1200 for 700 bucks......its a good helmet, but in no fucking way 550 bucks better.
can you get your hands on a IV2 (brand) helmet and test it? its also a lower price china helmet, but is DOT approved and more then $30.....being poor its been the helmet ive been using for 5+ years just because its modular
Just a note ........... DOT does not mean its been tested. Its a design certification and there is no guarantee that Chinese made DOT helmet was manufactured in accordance (same for US or European manufacture) but I would trust US or Euro manufacturers more. At $30 (or slightly more) you get what you pay for and that's probably "cut corners" in quality
Helmets have a use by date usually 5 years from manufacture, if you've used it for 5 years it's probably 7 years old now, I'd get a new one, and branded one at that. You can get branded and safety rated helmets from 150
Strangely enough while playing tourist in Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuxi; I noticed a tonne of Ebike riders and they seem to love all that hideous neck gaiter fun while riding in inclement weather (early December). Standards or Lack of Standards seems to be the norm with many products from Zhina. Most interesting video. Thanks for all you do and inform! Cheers
Thomas Bommer ... seen your comment about "softair" a few times here... Just to clear this up... watch the begining of this testing series, that is a metal pellet gun, not an air soft plastic pellet gun. Oh and I take it from your comments you have not watched any of the other test videos on this channel... or any of the other videos.
Great video as always. Would love to see an expensive helmet (Shoei, Scorpion etc) vs a reputable budget helmet in the sub $100 bracket as opposed to the scary Chinese crap. I'd like to think nobody would trust their head to something that shockingly made, and it would certainly be a more useful comparison. Keep up the great work!
i recall a similar test conducted by MCN in the 90's there a shot gun was used on an arai and shoie helmets both these seam under achieving in comparison
Fortnine, you guys are amazing. this is my top 3 channels across information, entertainment, reviews, artistic cinematography , also writing & host quality . KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
I love my bell race star. It's like the Lexus of helmets, not the lightest, but quality materials, no creaking plastic, looks great, flows nice on the highway
This is a knockoff helmet, not a cheap helmet, genuine cheap helmets will be safe, up to standard, expensive helmets will be better than the standard they need to reach, probably. This was sold to you in China no doubt (not all Chinese items are poor quality/knockoffs), a cheap helmet bought in the US if laws are similar to the UK, will still be subject to the same testing as expensive helmets and need to meet a minimum standard in order to legally be sold.
He also did a video on how utterly crap the US DOT standards are...helmets sold in the US, even with that "certification", are not exactly guaranteed to be safe. DOT standards let manufacturers self-report their test results. With no internal oversight. Yes, really.
@@magicoddeffect We are lucky to also have SHARP testing, this is set up by the department of transport. We can even request helmets to be tested. It's a good place to go to see what helmets in your price range have a good rating, even if you're not from the UK. It might have your helmet on there or ones you can get where you live, especially from well known brands.
It is, just not a firearm. an air rifle has a lot more punch with a .177 and for this test quite relevant. Whats the psi or the feet/meter per second speed of the .177 pellet Air rifle?
I just stumbled upon your channel yesterday. You're great man. Keep up the good work. ...and I envy you for all bikes that you have/or get to ride! :D BTW, slightly irrelevant question, but what is the "big black gun"? 22, or extremely powerful air gun?
Whilst its clearly an embarrassment of a helmet, the shell penetration test and abrasion resistance aren't particularly useful. Penetration tests are important in some markets, but as they're incredibly rare in the real world other markets ignore them. As modern tests have shown, penetration resistance reduces shock absorption - a material is either hard or it isn't. And so the advice of most helmet experts is that having good penetration resistance is more likely to hurt you than help you. Abrasion resistance is something we want at a medium, if the helmet grips the ground it causes problems but if it skates right off there are other problems. I can't remember the specifics here, but that would be why Skorpion isn't as impressive as one would assume despite using good materials. And of course its not identical but it is related to smoothness, with a limited selection of materials something has to give. As long as the helmet survives a 200mph slide I doubt we really care if it still looks great.
This really puts quality helmets to perspective.. i have an hjc helmet that i bought for 160 something, and it saved my melon from getting squished by a semitruck's trailer. Always buy the quality, your head is worth the money!
this is the MOST IMPORTANT thing you must not buy on a budget - a HELMET... we only live once so making sure that these kind of things are of a high quality product is a MUST.. thanks for the informative video.. cheers
When the government in India made it compulsory to wear helmet on a motorcycle, everyone followed it. Initially as a college student I bought one for $20(close to 1200 rupees). As it so happened I was moving out of my town to a city, I packed everything on my motorcycle and headed there. Just as I entered the city I saw a crash site where a man was dead on the spot when he crashed into the aluminium guard rail and the helmet broke caused his head to bump into the guard rail. They had put a tarp over his body and other bits of his splattered head. Few people were throwing up after seeing the scene. I seriously assessed my judgement of buying that cheap helmet. Two days later I went ahead and bought a 190$(around 11,000rupees) and still have it today after 8 years. I have changed the inner cushions, visor and the mountings so its still nice.
I got a bell helmet from a pawn shop. While I do know for a fact that it’s a bell, I have absolutely so idea how strong it is, besides it was worth 60 bucks after the last owner laid his bike down twice and sold all his gear.
I'm surprised the normal helmet took so few shots from from a BB gun. I expected it to be pretty much immune to that sort of think. What is the fps of that air rifle?
It would be very interesting to redo this test with an Arai, Shoei and AGV top of the range helmet vs the $300 helmet in this test. I bet they would out perform it pretty much in the same ratio as shown here.

Mothman 46 because he doesn’t want to spend that much money? He can’t do every helmet
I would love to see an Arai, Shoei, scorpion , HJC, Shark, AGV comparison like this
WOAAA! I have that same scorpion helmet, which I thought was a less reputable brand. Had no idea it was virtually bullet proof! 🤯
It's a bb gun
OMG, There is no way that helmet should be sold in the U.S. ! That was ridiculous. Thanks for the video, it was very entertaining.
I was hoping youd do a $100 helnet vs a $600 or more helmet
Several inexpensive HJC helmets received 5 star safety ratings from sharp.dft.gov.uk
Thoughts exactly. Arai vs HJC.
Silvie Fox YES PLEASE IVE BEEN WANTING A REVIEW OF THE IV2, I have one myself that I use daily but I'm not sure if I trust it
Just a note ...........
You can get branded and safety rated helmets from 150
Never use a modular helmet, only full rigid dot!
iloveg25 modulars are good only if chin bar is 100% strong and secure
The neckwarmer is genius ! Im hoping to see it at more quality products.
Cheers
"They are using styrofoam instead of EPS" is one of the stupidest cons of a helmet ever.
I'm glad someone caught that. ~RF9
Styrofoam = expanded polystyrene ( aka eps)
Why?idk about helmets
that whole test was stupidly biased
Thomas Bommer ironic how the biased one here is you
Was this secretly an ad?
Just to say comment is stupid and pointless and. The whole series is an ad.
Probably.He was so biased
100%
and btw u can adjust the power of a softair...
You guys accusing him that its an ad, you probably never watched his other videos
would be nice to see a comparison between a cheap helmet WITH legal approval and a rather expensive one.
There was no better way to explain this subject.I think perfect presentation.
The visor was removed from the scorpion for chin bar test. Which is something you cant do on the cheap one.
Remind me to pick up this scorpion if I wanted to get shot with a rifle in the head. Damn
brocku it was an air rifle
Pubg approved
@@clemmie4 level 1 helmet 😂
“What’s the difference ‘tween a $300 helmet and a $30 helmet?”
“If you’ve got a $30 head, get a $30 helmet.”
Yfy © 2020
But does that mean your head is worth only $300..?
Great video as always. Would love to see an expensive helmet (Shoei, Scorpion etc) vs a reputable budget helmet in the sub $100 bracket as opposed to the scary Chinese crap. I'd like to think nobody would trust their head to something that shockingly made, and it would certainly be a more useful comparison. Keep up the great work!
i recall a similar test conducted by MCN in the 90's there a shot gun was used on an arai and shoie helmets both these seam under achieving in comparison
I have a Scorpion 420 that is SNELL rated. I paid $170 two years ago. It’s well constructed and solid.
Thanks TH-cam for telling me a video from 2017 is 1 year old
I was seriously expecting this madlad to crash test a motorcycle helmet using an assault rifle.
Bb gun
It's frightening that these helmets are even available to buy.
I just recently got in a motorcycle accident and the scorpion 710 saved my life, No regrets there!
That's so awesome. I just bought my first Motorcycle and the scorpion is the helmet I bought not knowing how well reviewed it is. 😊
"The hideous neck condom" Lmao
so we just not gonna talk about how the scorpion is literally a billet proof helmet
think he is a pellet gun for the tests, not a real gun.
Wow! How can something like that even be allowed to be sold.
That thing's very existence is ridiculous.
More often than not, you get what you pay for.
That is Chinese industrial policy, enabled by the West: "Make stuff and make it cheap, they'll buy ANYTHING over there".
At the motorcycle show last year I picked up a $600 SHOEI helmet for $350 all in.
Best helmet I've ever worn.
Fortnine, you guys are amazing.
this is my top 3 channels across information, entertainment, reviews, artistic cinematography , also writing & host quality .
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!
Me: lets see how they crash test a helmets
Them: starts with shooting it
neck condom rofl
Lmao🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂🤣😂😂😂🤣😂
It would be cool if we could get a video of helmets that compare Snell, DOT, and ECE ratings.
How have I never seen your videos before? You are fracking fracking hilarious! Definitely subscribed
I love my bell race star. It's like the Lexus of helmets, not the lightest, but quality materials, no creaking plastic, looks great, flows nice on the highway
Do you always face Assault Rifles on American roads or what?
How did you think this was going to go Ryan?
Nice bike, I approve.
I actually didn't think it would be *that* bad. I figured it'd suck - of course - but was surprised by how much. ~RF9
its a sponsored add for scorpion helmets, mate
Thanks RyNi for the confirmation that my scorpion is keeping my million dollar ideas safe and sound 🥳🥳🥳
what are your top 5 helmets rated and bang for your buck?
3:54 the expensive helmet is missing it's visor ? did u replace it after it broke ?
What did you shoot it with?
Airsoft gun
Marcel Piszczek it's a fucking .177 cal air rifle dipshit
husin boi same difference, its not a real gun tho
It is, just not a firearm.
an air rifle has a lot more punch with a .177 and for this test quite relevant.
Whats the psi or the feet/meter per second speed of the .177 pellet Air rifle?
shadowninja81500
Thanks!

As long as the helmet survives a 200mph slide I doubt we really care if it still looks great.
the gun for anyone who is wondering is a 700 fps bb gun.
For reference, most plastic pellet airsoft guns shoot between 350-500. So Ryan is using some serious plinking firepower here!
In earlier vid he says is 550km/h which is 500fps which is max speed in canada before it becomes a firearm.
So noobs gonna be like buy a 600$ helmet , if u r riding a moped...
Lol
This channel just gets better and better
I feel like you could of produced mad max solo and still would of done it wonders , love the content
This really puts quality helmets to perspective.. i have an hjc helmet that i bought for 160 something, and it saved my melon from getting squished by a semitruck's trailer. Always buy the quality, your head is worth the money!
Have cuz it doesnt even look like it got damaged at all! I keep it as a memento lol
this is the MOST IMPORTANT thing you must not buy on a budget - a HELMET... we only live once so making sure that these kind of things are of a high quality product is a MUST.. thanks for the informative video.. cheers
My uncontrollable laughter at that zip on neckwarmer is what youre all missing right now 😂😂😂😂😂
When the government in India made it compulsory to wear helmet on a motorcycle, everyone followed it.
The garbage bag was essential to the added protection. You took off that precious layer.
I scored a scorpion VX20 Air for 150€ a few months ago and damn it just feels so much better in comparison to my cheaper helmet
Searching for a new helmet now since sliding 20ft on my Kabuto Kamui and putting heavy scratches into both sides of it. A few scorpion models are on the final list, but really leaning towards NEXX X.T1 on closeout for under 200$.
Looks to me at 3:50 you clearly checked up on your golf swing to the Scorpion helmet, yet you swing right through the cheap helmet.
