    Thanks for your continuing testing of motorcycle gear. I'd want to point out that the seam testing is merely showing how far the jean material will stretch. A gauge to measure pull weight on the seams would be more accurate. Also, there is no use in testing heat resistance of jeans that fail the abrasion tests long before heat can build up and ignite them. Keep up the good work.

    After 51 years in the saddle, I recall an incident that occurred when I was a teenager. A buddy and I had just gotten off a muddy trail and onto the street. It was pouring rain. Mud filled tires and a lapse in concentration, I find myself flying up on the rear of a blue chevy nova, I lock up the rear brake and I'm instantly on the ground. I can still see the gas tank under the nova approaching me. I slid about twenty feet on a drenched asphalt street. I was wearing jeans and a denim jacket. I didn't get any skin abrasions, but everything I had in my pockets wore through the denim. Perfectly shaped wear holes of my wallet, coins in my pocket, and a zippo lighter. You're results seem legit to me.

    I've been in a number of accidents, some of them even high speed, and my regular jeans have never given me trouble. In fact, I'm still wearing the same regular jeans I was wearing when a drunk driver ran me off the highway on the highway in Texas on Black Friday. I miss that bike... Every accident I get in makes me more paranoid, and thankfully my body seems nigh unbreakable. But that last one I shattered my collar bone and broke 2 ribs. Had my collar bone put back together by a surgeon at Herman Memorial in Houston. They did a great job and as far as I can tell, I've made a full recovery.

    you should ask for donations to buy an abrasion/tear strength testing machine and to get a dummy to drag these guys on the street. I know I would donate. your testing is way to unscientific to mean much, but if your willing to keep testing gear to find out what the manufacturers know and won't tell us I would be happy to donate money to the cause.

    Fantastic video. My only comment is why icon jeans when draggin jeans are the most common and market leaders, or in my humble opinion the best bike jeans (as good as jeans get) "Hood jeans". A small UK family firm that really consider safety in their jeans. i.e. the use very heavy weight denim, Woven aramid on the entire inside of the leg, and they do think about the seam thread and reinforce the seams, as well as having internal pockets for both hip and knee armour. just seams to be truly scientific more than one brand of jean would have been appropriate.

    Something I want to say is that riding jeans do have a self life. In heavy use, maybe 4 years. It happens because there are chemicals that bond the material together that deteriorates from heat, moisture, and being stretched. I recommend never machine washing and only hand wash when the pants are soiled beyond wear.

    See, the thing about abrasion is that nobody sits there and slides for multiple seconds on one patch, they roll and therefore constantly put a new patch of material to the pavement. 40 grit sandpaper is also more abrasive than most road surfaces. I've been skateboarding for a long time and have fallen probably close to 30 mph in regular jeans and never had more than a minor scrape to my skin and that didn't bother me in the least. I actually find the lower speed falls to hurt more because you immediately slam down instead of skidding/sliding.
    There's also no proof that the stitching won't pop on the reinforced layer and just move out of the way and do nothing. The most important thing about riding is to git gud and stop falling like a dumbass, anyway.

  • @andyfoster9038
    @andyfoster9038 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, expensive riding jeans with a layer of aramid under some parts of a layer of denim last twice as long as $25 Wranglers with only a single layer of denim. In other words, a pair of Wranglers with an extra layer of denim under the same parts would last as long as the aramid jeans. Ignoring that the denim on the riding jeans is rubbish, the extra protection is more from having an extra layer, than it is from the aramid being significantly more abrasion resistant than denim.
