Varun…. This no phodni / no vaatan kalvan is jussssst awesomely amazing…. Gets ready in a jiffy with only Bombil to be brought…. Rest allll available at home…. We made it at 1.00 am after coming home from a long exhausting camp… as recommended ate with piping hot ambemohur bhaat…👌👌👌👌👌👌🙏
In Bengal, it is known as 'Lote Machh' or 'Lote Fish' and we like to have it as a really spicy, dry, fried dish to go with 'Gorom Bhaat' or hot, steamed rice in most of our Bengali households. But yes, some of the Bengalis do like to have the 'jhol' or curry of this fish as well.
I have half a kg lote mach all by myself in one day with bhaat! XD Also it used to cheap AF, literally 50-60 for a kilo!! Thanks to covid, selling at double the price now, missed the charm of having cheap fish a bit while eating lote last sunday! :/
Agree with Ms Jayeeta from comment section . We Bengali called this “lote mach “ and this is very famous in Bangaldesh place called “Chattagram “ . My father is from this place so by family tradition we used to have this fish . Trust me this is heavenly tasty . You can add radish if you like and make spicy thin curry and have with hot rice . It’s yaaaamiiii 😋
Varun, I have prepared this dish umpteen times and each time I just loved it. Its so simple and tasty. Today i tried with just a tablespoon of mustard oil instead of 2 tblsp of refined oil and I tell you it was extremely yummy. I wish you come out with more simple dishes like this for working people like me. Thank you Varun for taking the time out to show us this great yet simple reciepe. God Bless You!!!
Thankyou so much for this recipe, i was searching video for fish curry without coconut recipe and came across this recipe which my mom always used to make... Thankyou so much varun sir
I didn't expect it to be as tasty as it turned out, my husband even asked if it can be used for other fishes. Thanks for the recipe, enjoyed it thoroughly.
Hi Varun thnx a lot, I made this recepie today it was fabulous, I had this type of kalwan after 25 yrs, my dad used to make the same type, but after his demise , I tried but could not make, today when I had this I remembered him, thanx a lot Varun.
Thank you Varun for this delicious recipe. I tried this recipe today. It turned out very tasty that we licked our fingers. God bless you for sharing. All the best.
Hey Varun this is pankaj from Hyderabad. I must say I don't just love the food that u prepare but l also love the way you explain. I am a self taught chef and you inspire me to cook more and more. I am really looking forward to visit you and prepare something for you. Take care and stay blessed
Amazing Chef.. 👏 thank you for sharing this unbelievably simple tasty recipe.. will never like to have bombils prepared in any other ways from now on, expect this way.
In kolkata hindi speaking people say BoMbla and in bengali it is lote machh but recipes are many different ways. Actually indian cuisines has tremendous varities of recipes which tastes each of it is just yummm ❤🥰
By the way , we are from Palghar coastal area in Maharashtra ( u must be knowing) , having lived in Delhi for so many years , we developed another version of this dish … add Original sarso oil ( kali sarso , the authentic oil which is not refined ) , rest do same … this will taste different n very tasty …
The ingredients & method is both similar to our Pathare Prabhu bhujane & with kokam added, we call it solache. Except for the addition of tomatoes. Even we don't use onion while cooking bombil. I didn't know Malvani recipe is so similar!
Oh ho ho. What a lovely recipe and perfectly suits time constraints. Malwani masala if it is homemade the taste is irresistible. The aroma while cooking it in the kitchen. Supreme bliss. Thanks a lot Chef. It will be my second skin now. I love bombil but wanted a non fried option and so so perfect.. suggest a few more simple receipe for other fish types too. I know I may be too demanding but you are beyond amazing.
(खेंगट), Khengat, typical koli word for this curry, my all time favourite, you can add (मांदेली)Mandeli, (करंदी) baby white prawns, in it, Thank you so much chef
Liked the simplicity of this dish... No onion, no glamour. As simple as the original Bombay duck... 👍

Yes lote machh with steam rice is really awesome.

You are right. Even in Maharashtra, the fried version of bombil is more popular. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.
@@shris6411 actually, that is different from the recipe I've mentioned.
Dried fish eat by ghotis only curry eats by bangal
Very nicely explained dear ❤
