Basics: How to clean your car | Safely detail wash car exterior | Swirl and scratch free wash

In this video I will show you the absolute fundamentals of washing your car from a detailers point of view. There is lots of different methods & techniques of which you can clean your car. However, from my many years of experience and vast amount of training will show you the safest way to clean your car without causing any scratches or swirls.
The vehicle shown was last cleaned by me 8 weeks ago, so a few thousand miles since. The vehicle was fairly soiled so 2 steps of prewash was used. Ideally, as we head into winter this will be more-or-less standard on every car.
What is Snowfoam? Snowfoam is a degreaser cleaner designed to light any dirt away from the surface and dwell away.
What is 2 bucket method? This method is 2 buckets filled up 1 plain water and 1 with car shampoo added to it.
Drying towel? I use a Dual twist drying towel for a streak free finish on the vehicle.
------ THE PROCESS ------
Step 1 (00:10-02:45) WASH THE ALLOYS
•Firstly, rinse then wash the alloys using your favourite alloy cleaner. I usually start from the barrel then move to the wheel faces.
Step 2 (02:45-05:15) PRE WASH
•Apply pre wash to vehicle. In this case I use a citrus based cleaner then snowfoamed over the top. The vehicle was fairly soiled so needed 2 pre-wash but 1 is usually more than enough. Let that dwell for 6-10 minutes depending on weather.
Step 3 (05:15-06:40) Rinse the vehicle
•Rinse the vehicle, starting from top to the bottom, focussing on soiled areas which are usually around the front & rear lower wheel arches.
Step 4 (06:40-08:30) Hand Wash
•Hand wash the vehicle with the 2 bucket method. Starting from the top, which is the less soiled area, and work your way around & down. Dip your mitt in the bucket every 1 or 2 panels maintain a clean mitt.
Step 5 (08:30-09:30) DETAIL CREVICES
•Use your soft detailing brush and citrus pre-wash in a spray bottle and agitate the crevices on the vehicle E.g Fuel cap, Grills, Window crevices, badges etc.
Step 6 (09:30-10:30) FINAL RINSE
•Rinse the full vehicle, making sure there is no suds left throughout the car.
Step 6 (10:30-12:30) DRY EXTERIOR
•Last and final step is to dry the vehicle. Using a drying towel of your choice start from the top and work you way down and around. And don’t forget to dry the alloys with an old towel.
