right on... glad there are more and more hitting the roads! let us know if you have any issues that we should look out for... i have been told to check the rear diff fluid level... lots of issues in Australia so i'll be looking at that tomorrow! Enjoy the truck... it is so much fun
I’m thinking about getting one of these and I watch your vids every day. Keep it up man! Your production quality has majorly improved in just a few days, bravo.
Wow, thanks so much! I never realized how much work these real TH-camrs put into their videos… I see how some of them make it a full time job and honestly they probably put in way more than 40 hours a week. Cheers
With those oil drain plugs, they can leak after removing and reinstalling. I recommend either replacing it during each oil change or upgrading it with a double o-ring aluminum one like the 5.0 mustangs have. Also, those oil filters don't run over when unscrewed but do drip some.
interesting... I may rethink this plan... I don't want to create more issues than I have to in an effort to avoid issues hahaha. Thanks. I will do some more research before I do anything drastic!
There was a full belly plate for the prior gen that I looked at before but I held off since I was not sure if I wanted to keep some towing advantages or stick to off-road use.
Thanks for the video. I always assumed that the plastic oil pans were for weight savings and fuel epa ratings. Can I ask what your production date was?
Waiting for parts is going to benefit you anyway. You know everyone is going to start making parts. The SEMA show is probably going to be ridiculous with all the Ranger Raptors.
Use a 6 point socket for the oil filter housing nut, a 12 point will mess it up. Use a Ford filter for warranty reasons and Ford may say to use the MOTORCRAFT blend oil but Ford has the full synthetic oil also.. which I would use.
Also the drain plug probably needs to be replaced every oil change. It looked plastic and the one on the Explorer ST is the same and is suggested to replace
@@postmanrp Plastic drain plugs are re usable, just take a good look at the O ring on it. Just keep a new one around in case the original breaks. Anything can happen.
i wasn't even able to get half way up the stupid ramps, they just kept sliding out from under the truck as it was climbing up... the driveway wad a bit wet but still annoying... once it was up i would have chocked the wheels... i had the chocks out and ready.
Thank you for the support, i love being in the Navy... I traded in my M3 and paid cash for the rest of this truck but if you were going to finance it with todays interest rates it would probably be over 1000 a month and then another 125-200 a month for insurance. as for maintenance and fuel, i'd say if you comfortably have 1,500 a month that you can dedicate to the truck you would be good to go. Any money you can put down on the truck would be a bonus. You can look at the military payscale online, so it is no secret that a Navy Commander makes between 140K-165K a year depending on time in service, and location for basic allowance for housing. Hope that helps.
That's likely the tranny oil to water heat exchanger by the intercooler. The oil filter housing has oil to water heat exchanger too. Turbos should have oil lines and coolant lines. This is just like all late model ford trucks. Your radiator is doing most of your coolling.

Plastic trans pans and engine oil pans are used on lots of auto types, Not just Ford.. Nissan, Ram uses the plastic transmission pans and the filter is built into the pan so this alone makes it spendy.
@@eddiehaskell5578 good to know... thanks. i was shocked to hear that there are some 2 stroke motors in small yard work machines with plastic PISTONS! how is that even possible?!
I was thinking the same thing when i was under there... i am curious if that plug just turns like 1/4 turn and has a small hole/spigot or if you pull it out and it just dumps all over the place... i will find out in a few months when i do first oil change.
@@pmassey2 i didn't even really consider that option for a truck because i didn't want a full size driving around DC but that is an amazing setup and if i lived in the country i would go that way for sure
Do you mind not having ventilated seats. I want to order one, but i'm scared cause here is really hot and raptor has leather seats.. Also i don't like that it doesn't have sunroof. No hud I don't really mind. All others things this is great truck, I'm from Europe so this is the biggest one we can get, I'm deciding between this and tacoma trd pro. This has V6 and better interior, but tacoma has ventilated seats and sunroff. I dont know what to do
If you live somewhere hot and your current vehicle has ventilated seats, just keep what you have. I live in MN, and id trade the heated seats in for ventilated seats in a heartbeat. My BMW had them and I’ve missed it ever since.
i loved the ventilated seats in my old explorer ST... it was really nice. If it were an option i would have gotten it but i wasn't gonna let that stop me from getting this truck... i'll just have to remote start it on really hot days to let the A/C cool it down and i'll be sure to put a visor across the windshield. they are bandaids but it should be good enough. I have had sunroofs in several of my cars thinking it was important and i hardly ever used them... my dad on the other hand opens it every time he drives unless it is raining so i know some people love them... I went with the raptor for the engine... i think the colorado and the tacoma both make amazing trucks but both have 4 cyl which is sad to me.
Too much plastic underneath that does not age well. Leak prone. GM was using plastic oil pans & plastic drain plugs on the new gen Canyon/Colorado, but the newer Vins switched to aluminum oil pans. Toyota & Subaru use metal. I will wait another year & see how the Tacoma Hybrid max does before thinking about selling my 21 Tacoma Trd OR. 🙄 My Tacoma has the cartridge type oil filter underneath close to the steel drain plug. The 24 Tacoma went back to a metal spin on filter right at the front of the bottom front of engine, way easier. The last gen Ranger had it on the passenger side of engine, but you had to remove that wheel, then remove the plastic fender liner to get to it. Great job Ford. At least yours has a filter that’s easy to get to.
removing a wheel and fender to get he filter is insane! thanks for all the info... this is crazy. Changing oil should be a basic thing that everyone can do... what are these manufacturers thinking!? changing the oil on my old S-10 was so basic... same on my 08 Tacomas! what is the world coming to haha.
I asked in the previous video, can you show us the catalytic converter. Is it exposed? Is there something we can get to protect it from all of the animals stealing them.
sorry i forgot to mention that in this video... they are directly off of the turbos up in the engine bay... if someone was trying to cut them out they would only be able to cut the lower end and no way for them to get to the top side. I just took a video of it and i'll post it in 15 min once i edit it down a bit
7:03 It looks like plastic, my Colorado trail bosses oil pan is plastic too,,make no sense, it looks a lot like yours! But I have zero rust on my drive shafts etc
yeah, i guess a lot of vehicles have plastic oil pans now... interesting. I am dissapointed about the rust but i'll be taking care of that this weekend at the auto hobby shop.
I see they have a plastic oil pan I had that on my 2.7 L, 2016 Ford 150 it warped and leaked like a son of a b could not find an oil pan anywhere national backorder ford company said they were in the process of retooling and making new never again. Will I buy another Ford.
i sure did... i put it towards the maint for the first 3 years... when i bought my explorer i used the points to get teh rubber floor mats but this one came with them so i threw it towards maint that i would have had to pay for anyway.

Awesome, thank you!
Aftermarket will catch up, and have good upgrade parts.

i figure i'll give it 6-9 months and see what is on the market... i'm sure there will be quite a few options
Seeing the Toyota prices are astronomical that really sealed the deal and I ordered a Ford Raptor Ranger
Heck yeah! That a solid choice. I think you will love it
Na its just cheaper to produce. As a tech myself the plastic doesn't takebthe heat cycles as well long term.
Thanks for the info! I after talking to a few mechanics and this comment here I will be looking for an aluminum pan to replace both!
