- For my season finale for my 2nd year of my Versus Series I will be pitting Devil May Cry against Final Fantasy as two of the greatest swordsmen in all of gaming will take on each other. As the son of sprada Vergil will take on the One-Winged Angel Sephiroth to see which combatant would walk away the winner.

I would have thought the word exchange would be like this:
Seph. - in a cold voice "play times over."
Verg. - in a cool calculated voice "if you insist fallen angel."
That would probably have made seph. more pissed but it would also fit with verg. as to how seph. looks to him.
Just to make it a bit more clear if I've got vergal's attitude wrong it's probably because I haven't heard vergal's voice in a long time.

Why would Vergil say fallen angel? I mean how is that relevant to him? Is it because he once thought with an actual fallen angel aka moondus?? One thing I don't think you mentioned was Vergil's regenerative abilities. If Vergil gets a good strike in, its gonna fuckin hurt. If Sephiroth gets a good strike in, hes gotta do it a few dozen more times before it really starts to have an effect on Vergil.
Vergil's powers were specifically designed to take on other swordsman. His only real weakness comes from his own mental state rather than his techniques or abilities. Vergil is my favorite character ever, but its hard to find good match-ups for him. He either entirely outclasses them or gets obliterated by reality warping Gods.
Sephiroth can just cast Cure and Regen nonstop thanks to his unlimited pool of magic, so Vergil will need more than just one strike

Watch a video this guy posted up. For characters who have healing abilities, healing is thrown RIGHT OUT OF THE WINDOW. It's because it would not even end. Oh yeah, and didn't he mention he was using BASE FORM Sephiroth? Not only that, but the other forms are either outside of FF7 (The version he is using) or are obtained through outside forces. NEITHER OF WHICH ARE PRESENT IN THIS BATTLE.

Funny ta think now Vergil would win even faster with his new abilities and showing he could tank Dante's ultimate form and still be ready for a fight at full strength. Plus his added use of Doppleganger would be another nail in Sephiroth's casket as ot comes out very fast, can be indipendant of Vergil's actions and from my own experience will save Vergil should he be caught in attacks if it isnt delt with. Sephiroth's history of not being able to react too new powerful attacks on the fly and his lack of space control against DMC5 Vergil would make the fight a joke. Not to sell Sephiroth short but as you said Vergil just has too many tools, can dictate the fight, and wouldnt allow Sephiroth the luxery of preparing any kind of plan. Having felt how insane the new Vergil is, I can confidently say unless you have a plan Vergil will toy with you before cutting you too shreds.

No, Vergil doesn't. He can't deal with Sephiroth's unlimited pool of magic, nor can he see through Seph's illusions. Plus, Yamato's power is greatly overexaggerated
i think you never played a dmc game. Anyways ive played all dmc games and dissidia and kingdom hearts to know that sephiroth would lose but not by much. Vergil can easily decapitate any manifestation of sephiroth while 19 year old Vergil can heal himself from being cut in half while almost dead.

I've played 1, 3, and 4, and Vergil STILL can't beat Sephiroth. Yamato couldn't cut Lady's rocket launcher, it had difficulty piercing The Savior (a LIMESTONE statue), and needed significant force to run through Arkham. Furthermore, Yamato was broken in half in DMC4 until Nero started wielding it.
Also, Mundus was able to control Vergil and transform him into Nelo Angelo, so Vergil doesn't have that strong of a mind. Vergil is weak to illusions and mental attacks, something Seph can easily exploit.
And the reason Vergil healed so quickly after supposedly being "chopped in half," is because his halves weren't seperated

gninja92 I dunno, I thought they were maybe trying to throw too much into his design with the Kingdom Hearts redesign. Like the red trim on the edges of his coat and turning the bottom of it into something like Batman's cape but greatly exaggerated with the points. The wing however looks great. Ditch the trim, Batman inspired coat and keep the wing and you have a winner. Less is more. Probably why I preferred the Advent Children look as the coat had a minor change in a few buckles added but it was largely unchanged besides that. Also thank god they never tried altering the masamune in Advent Children like Cloud's Buster Sword. While the multi blade thing was alright I thought it maybe cheapened it abit with the gimmicky nature of it.

Also for those who saw the Death Battle, uh Sephiroth can't use Supernova outside of his Ultimate form. So I don't know where they thought he could do that easily and summoning meteors takes a lot of time and Materia. Which is why he was in the Lifestream to aid him in doing the spell

I've always felt that the only reason Vergil lost in the end of DMC3 was because it was a prequel, so the story was predetermined from the start. In any other case, I feel Dante at the level he was at then, Vergil logically should win 9/10.

Really?It kinda makes sense dante won.In the 1st fight Vergil was stronger and won outright,in the second battle Dante had gotten better thanks to his devil trigger and so it was a tie.The third battle had vergil abandon his power for the force edge,so dante won outright.
Endgame DMC3 Dante outclassed Vergil pretty hard since Dante had new abilities, weapons, and got acquainted with his DT, Vergil couldn't really keep up with Dante's growing arsenal

+James Day vergil can cut through dimensions dimensions with yamato and can attack sephiroth no matter where he is with judgement cut, Beowulf hits with the force of a small supernova, teleportation, telekinesis, summoning, clones, forcefields, etc, vergil is much faster and can dodge light based attacks, and can move so fast that he can't be seen. vergil has this in the bag
Talawrence Ahart Also Vergil can simultaneously perform round trip with force edge, a nonstop, unlimited amount of energy swords, judgement cut multiple times and devil trigger explosion all at the same time plus he's devil triggered after that and at his most pissed off, Vergil can stay in devil trigger form for much longer than usual. He also hardly ever flinches if attacked in this form. He's been known to create invincible energy bubbles, become un-seeable and generate doezens of judgement cuts while healing. He can also do jump cancels to aod in recovery time and by devil may cry 3 he mastered concentration.

I think they are tired of everyone complaining after they did all that research, but with Dante and bayonetta I think old db is back kinda. If the battle looks realistic and good to what's being said and most things used to get ahead in battle or win make sense. then I don't care who wins. Yamato can cut through space itself, makes sense how it made Dante win. deadpool had a carbaniom or whatever it was sword, OK deathstroke had regeneration makes enough sense. I wanted death stroke to win but that made sense.
At least they did their research with the Dante vs Bayonetta and Superman vs Goku battles. Which were the ones that EVERYONE really wanted so they couldn't half-ass it.

This is really good. And I will just add that although Virgil deserves the win, I think that a couple of things have to be noted about Sephiroth.
1, Sephiroth's movement in wielding his sword can also be too fast for the human eye to see. You did mention that he was fast but you didn't press on how fast.
2, Sephiroth's abilities are, to this day still uncharted and although Sephiroth notably doesn't favour the use of magic abilities he did burn down an entire village at the point of his metal snap. It's not stated how he did it but I doubt he went around to each house with match sticks and gasoline
Though he has been defeated by cloud and others, if you read up in Final Fantasy wiki it states that he was for some reason limited or was holding back. After he became evil he developed a tendency to toy with his enemies which is usually his biggest mistake because it gives them a chance to gain the will to fight back harder during the battle like cloud did in both times they fought.
That's all I want to say, not being a little bitch about who won. Virgil is fucking amazing!

1) Moving faster than the eye can track is a Tuesday for Vergil so I don't see that helping Sephiroth.
2) We have very explicit demonstrations of Sephiroth to have a grasp on what he would bring into a battle. Of that stuff, Vergil would still solemnly win.

Devil May Cry V makes Dante and Vergil basically gods. Dmc3 vergil may lose to seph but dmc5 Vergil is way stronger.

That was the best battle breakdown I have ever heard on the internet and I totally agree with you because you're keeping both characters in character and when you understand fighting all of that would count on the outcome of the battle.

Screwattack knows they messed up that's why they are gonna do rematch with Vergil getting the dub. Think about it, they buffed sephiroth by giving him non canon feats and nerfed Vergil by not giving him force edge and proper DT transformation aka force field.

You presented a great video here my man, it's quite a well-researched battle, I honestly clicked onto this video as soon as it caught my eye, I must extend to you my sincere thanks for going through the research time needed to do this fight, I love both of these characters, and seeing them both in this battle makes me legitimately happy, so kudos to you for doing this one.Though personally, I don't think Screwattack would want to do Vergil vs. Sephiroth as a battle of theirs, as, in my view, Vergil vs. Sephiroth is a fight that could very easily be swapped out for other battles involving both Vergil and Sephiroth respectively, for Vergil, I see Vergil taking on Sesshomaru from InuYasha, and Sephiroth could fight a number of opponents, whether it be Kefka, Griffith from Berserk, or even more uncommon opponents like Gilgamesh from Fate/stay night.As someone who has seen Death Battle develop over the course of a couple of years now, as well as TH-cam User MaxOfFewTrades being an official member of the research team, I find it very easy to agree with Death Battle on a number of their battles, although in the past the higher ups above the research team have bent a verdict or two to their whim, this isn't common, since one of their battles (Ratchet and Clank vs. Jak and Daxter) was researched quite thoroughly, additionally, MaxOfFewTrades also stated that he is entering the main core research team, since the old team was disbanded and then reformed with additional members.Additionally, I administrate the Death Battle's Fanon Wiki, so I am constantly around other people who research fights as well, so I'm acquainted with the process needed to fully research a fight, which is why I extend my praise to you for making this video, don't worry, i'm not going to disagree with anyone for thinking Vergil would win here, we all have opinions and we all stick by them, and I am quite looking forward to the first episode of Season 3, since I especially consider Genesis a favourite character of mine, as for Season 2, I am undeniably going to say this battle is the best of the season you've produced as of right now.I look forward to seeing more in the future.

what about heartless angels or black materia and super nova, scintilla,? sephiroth doesn't have much magic? you missed his most crucial moves that were recreated in many other games. what about the 4 elemental stones that acted on their own during the fight against Zack? one of those actually healed him. physical feats and weapons were accurate though, but special abilities was lacking in this. also battle tactics were a little bias. I believe the main reason why people like this match up is because both sephiroth and vergil are cocky lightning speed swordsman who both lack adaptability. like you said, vergil wasn't getting stronger, only changing his weapons and frustrated when the fight prolongs, sephiroth also gets caught off guard when the fight changes stage.

I like that you made the battle based on how the characters would behave and went into all their abilities and weaponry but, you did seem to mainly focus on some of the abilities from a gameplay sense and not a lore based sense. For example, Vergil can stay in his devil trigger for a lot longer than in gameplay (aside from Super Vergil, who can stay in it indefinitely). The overall power difference between the 2 characters should be noted too. Mundus could literally create pocket dimensions the size of universes and Vergil (if he wasn't worn out when fighting him) could've put up a decent fight against him.

D blitzed an "infinite" distance to cut Matthew (Another powerful Dhampir who was giving him hard time)

I find it funny that screwattack compared clouds attack strength when they cratered a massive metal surface, they said the force was the equivalent of 1,600 tons of force (give or take a few hundred) then they did a calculation of when vergil killed Beowulf the light beast and split his body in half with just a kick. They said this kick was the equivalent of 720 million Newtons of force which I calculated to be over 10x what sephiroth blocked from cloud. Also if you watch vergil move in game you will see that even in his base form his speed creates multiple after images.
Also there's one thing I noticed about vergil's judgement cut end ability, the instant before vergil dashes you see multiple spectral images of vergil's devil trigger form dash in a cone in front of him. This leads me to think that Vergil doesn't doesn't just create spectral swords but his main ability is to use spectral creations to battle with yamato
Death Battle has this thing where they use composite characters against one off characters, that's dumb as hell. It's not a fair fight and it's boring. I prefer your matches because they make sense.
You seriously deserve the funding and production value of screw attack, then you could add the amazing level of intellectual objectivity needed to discuss these types of fights. Love your videos.

This video was done nicely but didn't mention that the first time Sephiroth was killed by Cloud is because he was already gravely injured as he was stabbed with the Buster Sword(did you see how huge that thing is?) that left him with a huge hole in his body therefore he is already severely weakened. When Sephiroth is defeated in AC, according to the Final Fantasy creator(Hironobu Sakaguchi) he was no where near his full power. Also why was the Octaslash used for Sephiroth's when classifying magic and special skill? He has the Supernova. He even has telekinesis. He can even cast illusions for distraction and stuff.
Those abilities were when he was technically dead. He was manipulating the Genova Cells within Cloud and the lifestream. He never showed those abilities in his normal state (the state he was in pre 7). Supernova was only in his Final Form with a VERY special Materia and fusing with the lifestream.
I can tell you like vergil more dude. Sephiroth didnt have trouble with genesis and angeal lol he was using one hand the whole time. It was like him fighting sora if anything.

Vergil is out of Sephiroth's league. He's too strong and too fast and is virtually unkillable and before all you Sephiroth fanboys slaughter me saying he has the power to destroy the planet/solar system. 1: Sephiroth does not have the power to do that. He needed the black materia to "summon" meteor to destroy the planet for him.
2: He cannot destroy a Solar system. His attack Supernova is just a move and if you're gonna use that as a feat that he can destroy a Solar system you're an idiot because how can ff7 exist otherwise. It's like the summon Neo Bahamut attack animation which it destroys the world. Its only an animation for the attack.
Vergil completely outclasses Sephiroth in every department. Anything Dante can do Vergil can do, sometimes even better in some departments. His durability would be too much. Sephiroth could literally hack away at Vergil for hours and at the same time Vergil could eat his breakfast, lunch and dinner while this is going on. Vergil or Dante are too OP

This is my second time watching this video. I don't agree with the outcome but I can See Vergil winning then Sephiroth winning.
Since Dmc5 it's even more difficult decide who will win Vergil is stronger than ever. Then Sephiroth full power not has ever been full shown...he's never truly been tested. But very entertaining way better than screwattack so many of their vs. Battles make no sense.

Vincent’s fight with Weiss makes Dante and Vergil’s fight seem like it was in slow mo. In the novel Lateral Biography: Turks, Kadaj moves around faster than multiple people can react to and he even jumps between the spinning blades of a helicopter.

Virgil literally caught bullets by spinning his sword with his wrist,lined them up single file,and fired them back with a flick of the wrist. He frequently cuts things fast enough to make it look like it didn't happen,he's killed demons *Edit: that were falling from the sky* faster than they could hit the ground,and uses Beowulf,which amplifies his speed,and strength by at least 2,and that's not even counting teleportation,and just for fun,DEVIL TRIGGER,which also AT LEAST DOUBLES everything else...

Venom Alastor Yeah, their canon. Weiss, while fighting Vincent in Dirge of Cerberus, slams the ground and rocks and dust float in mid air while they continue to move. Then, Weiss touches rocks, not even a flick, and the rocks fire at Vincent at the speed of bullets, which he dodges with ease. Then the scene goes to real time and the rocks and dust fall back to the ground. Needless to say, Sephiroth is leagues above these two.
I can’t say for sure just how fast Sephiroth and Vergil are, but I’d put their speeds at about even, for that very reason.
I like this video, especially that bitch slap comment but I kind of have to disagree with the discussion on Sephiroth's abilities. Sephiroth has been shown to teleport too in gameplay and Crisis Core. He can use telekinesis, cast barriers to increase his defense, inflict various status conditions, heartless angel, which is blockable but can reduce HP to one, but he doesn't use it until at low HP and it's likely a game mechanic bit still a

+Falcondorf Humm I've never seen Sephiroth teleport in Crisis Core I know he can do it in Kingdom Hearts and that is something that even Sora can deal with easily.
3TopicsReviewer Vergil seems to teleport with greater efficiency and combat application but I recall Sephiroth doing it multiple times in VII, mostly for intimidation and he does do it multiple times in the Crisis Core boss fight to prepare attacks like draw slash. Like it says in the article I linked he summons multiple large materia to further fuel his magic. This could just be a gameplay only scenario and I am all about mostly using cutscenes to base abilities on but these are very clearly abilities that he uses.

On the physical capabilities part, I feel Vergil might be faster than Sephiroth. Seph is fast to be sure, but Vergil is always known for being able to strike so fast it doesn't even look like he unsheathed his sword all the way

I believe that you miss magical abilities of Sephiroth. First off why would shadow flare have no effect.and you don't acknowledge Sephiroth God form and attacks like pale horse or super nova which cause multitude of ill effects such as poison or at the very least slow down Vergil. And jenova creations can be helpful distractions from Virgil's attacks. Also Sephiroth uses magic abilities like barrier that greatly reduced physical and magic attacks. This is a lot closer and I would say Sephiroth could take this one. Demon vs a God seems like a no contest.

First of all, those forms aren't cannon. Vergil's Devil Trigger is cannon.
Second of all, this guy did it right and everything is exactly the same.
Third, Vergil has many attacks and his attacks are new to Sephiroth.

i wanted sephy to win but you missed one problem with sephy. See, he likes to play with his opponents before killing them. Vergil don't have time for that shit. Thats why he lets people get in his face. He wants to see their faces before he does them in. He gloats too much. I feel like if sephiroth were as power hungry as vergil was and had actually trained his magic he might have won.

A few things you didn't mentioned about Sephiroth.
Sephiroth has a parry skill called, "Scintilla" that was specifically designed at close range to immediately counter attack upon a successful parry. Similar to Dante's, Just Release with Royal Guard Style. Sephiroth Also has a long range ability called, "Send Heartless Angels" that can almost incapacitate his opponent. You already mentioned that Vergil can just teleport to his opponents, but that simply isn't always true. Vergil can only teleport to his opponent at a specifically set distance, around five meters from what I've noticed in game. That's not counting the other Vergil's ability from DmC that can teleport anywhere to his enemy if he implants them with a special summoned sword. And last but not least, Sephiroth cannot die now that he's a part of lifestream, and can return at anytime.
To respond to some of your point i know for a fact that Vergil can teleport much further then 5 meters i spend a good amont of time testing the distance and i found that he can telport directly to any enemy within an area that he can lock on to and there are alot of wide open areas in dmc4 to test that on and this fight is taking place within an arena in Hades so Sephiroth will always be within locking distance even for Vergils energy sword and on a final note it is true that one can not entirely kill sephiroth. You can destroy his body but not so much his spirit, so as long as there are no compatible bodies that he use to revive himself then you can stop him to some extent from returning to the physical plain.

Andrew Rogers Yeah, it took him 5 years to achieve that level, from death. I'm going to do some research, I'm pretty sure that at that point Sephiroth had not yet absorbed any lifestream and the reasoning for his new found power was his knowledge of the planet.

It's Clear as day that Cloud is Stronger than Squall, since well Cloud got experimented on and survived Mako Poisening and a whole ordeal and such...
BUT well Cloud failed to get into SOLDIER and became a simple Infantrymen, whereas Squall was trained by Balamb Garden to become a SeeD and later on became the Leader of Balamb Garden (Special Elite Mercenary Forces, in which you can only apply from the Ages of 15 to 19) and Squall became SeeD and Leader of Garden around 17/18-ish, in which I remind you that Squall is still a *regular Human*
SOLDIER are Elite *Super* Soldiers of Shin-Ra with enhanced Strength,Speed and whatever comes to mind, which are divided into 3 Classes
3rd Class probably being the weakest, since well you can only rank from 3 to 2 and from 2 to 1 and only distinguished Personal can be appointed for Promotion...
2nd Class same as with 3rd Class, usually only play a support Role to the 1st Class Soldiers and are usually being supported by Infantrymen
1st Class, well do I even need to say anymore? They're the Creme de la Creme, the Top of the Top, only reserved for Top-Priority Missions!
However my thoughts were, What if Squall existed in the FFVII Realm and entered the SOLDIER exams the same time Cloud did? (Or maybe even Zack, don't remember wether Cloud and Zack attempted to Join SOLDIER at the same time)
How much Stronger would Squall be?
The only reason Yamato can cut through anything is because it can cut through DImensions. This is an ability that requires intentional use, and there is no known defense against a Jiganto cut, or Dimension sword cut, since this type of attack Ignores physics all together, the best you can do is dodge it. It's not because the sword's sharpness it's because it's a Jiganto that it can cut through anything.
