I agree, Cloud, Barret, Yuffie and Cid are the top tier characters to use, I must say that if Aeris is playable till the end of the game, then your party is truly invincible. She is top tier in terms of support.
Cloud, tifa, yuffie and cid are always my go to in my squad. Aerith would be in there too if she didnt, well ya know
Aerith was the healer of my group, and it was a nightmare to find a replacement, after her, who do you consider the best healer?
Red 13 is a good replacement for healer since he has good speed combined with speed plus materia.
It’s always a toss up for me between yuffie Barrett and cid as my perma party. I tend to never stop using yuffie tho after conformed because she is just that good

Vincent’s magic stat is so exploitable I’m shocked none of the many ways to make him demolish enemies affected your placement. Vincent’s ultimate weapon’s gimmick for attack doesn’t really matter cuz he’s not an attacker. His ultimate weapon in reality is Ultima. Pair that with MP Turbo, and fill him with the most magic increasing summons and materia and nothing can stop him. Min Max his Magic and turbo ultima for an easy beast

Cait Sith is so tough for me because he is actually pretty damn good in disk 2 and solid in disk 1 but absolutely falls off in disk 3
His scaling with the default slot attack, toy box will in most cases be rather nice in disk 1 and 2 and somewhere along the line, one of the more common slot attacks toy soldiers starts doing really good damage by disk 2.
But having no multi hit in disk 3 content drives him down so much, even as Cait Sith’s strongest defender he simply just can’t keep up with some of these insane damage multi-hit limits usually unlocked in disk 3 or very late disk 2
I feel like I'm one of the very few that actually uses Cait Sith since I learned how to rig the slots to get Game Over which is the most OP limit break in the game though it is not easy to pull off and can be hard at times. He makes for a great mage too with high magic stats
No he doesn't fall off his magic stat is one of the best ones in the game💀
@@FreeSephs When pretty much everyone is hitting max damage, the high magic stat isn't as good, it works but due to having no multi-hit Limit he is unable to practically keep up with others. Same reasons as Vincent who has the highest magic stat in the game.
He is plenty viable, as is everyone, but I wouldn't take him to weapon fights. Again he is genuinely one of my favorite characters but he just struggles to keep up in super boss encounters, as do a few others. But, he works plenty well for all other main story content
The devs did him dirty although he's a vital story character, they just gave him 2 limit breaks, not 4 like Vincent. And his limits are just so crappy.
In casual play yeah he kinda sucks and fails to keep up with multi hitting moves. In LL runs however he is invaluable as he is your best source of healing in that context specially on challenges that also limit materia usage
I just used Cloud, Barret, Tifa when I first played this game cause they were the most familiar due to being playable early
Im playing FF7 rn for the first time and im still in disk 2 (after the submarine mission) and honestly i just love Vincent. The fact that his limit makes him uncontrollable is a plus to me cuz then i dont need to keep menu'ing for damage while the action bar of the enemy fills up. Yeah sure he might heal some enemy with his attacks, it happened to me, but if that doesnt happen then hes so good.
Again im a beginner in this game and im probably wrong, but he just feels good. Good list though in case i have trouble in the end game
This list works well for me. No complaints except I think Aerith is the best character by far.
I agree with everything except only one thing...
Vincent is worse than Cait Sith. His limit is nothing but useless. Not having a limit break at all is even better than having the attack option 'unavailable' because his limit meter is full.

Also Cait sith is able to oneshot any enemy, including the weapons and final bosses with the slot-trick. So depending on definition; he is the best.
My fav. Combo is Cloud, Yuffie and Cid !

This was my end game party as well. Switch out Yuffie for Barret when not needing to morph enemies

Best team combos imo are Cloud, Cid and Yuffie. Not only is this the most OP team imo but they get along surprisingly well, both have their goofy moments but its always a good laugh.
Then its og Barrett and my gal Tifa. I always pair these two together because they were part of the original gang and know eachother so well. Besides that they make a great team.
I would always pair Red with Aerith. Both were unique characters. Both intune with the plannet and both connected by Hojo. Aerith loved Red and since they met, they were great friends.
Later I would pair Red with Vincent (they got a lot in common, both hate hojo) both kinda unique with their beast like abilities, and both old and wise. They bounce off eachother with their wisdom and intellect and together they make a fierce team.
And then there's cait sith.... well... lets just say, he just stands in the corner.
Yeah Cloud, Cid and Yuffie is a really good team.
Think I wound up with cloud, tifa, and yuffie at the end. Maybe cid instead of tifa at the end. But once you are refularly hitting damage cap the multihit limits wind up being absolutely broken.
The multi hit limit breaks are super strong they do tons of damage!
Cid is a must for the party. What a legend.
Yeah Cid is really good. His Highwind limit break is extremely powerful and his Scimitar weapon is one of only two in the game that gives triple AP growth. So Cid has a major advantage in that he is extremely helpful for leveling up materia in the game.

Yuffie is a beast in every version of this game
Cid is great not only for his triple growth weapon but he also has a five slot double growth weapon, which if I'm not mistaken is the most on a single piece of equipment. (with double growth)

I’m replaying the original for the first time in 30+ and half way through the game I find Vincent + All + deathblow to be really effective at clearing groups of enemies (not so much single target). So surprised he is so low on the list (but, as I said, not played in 30’years so no expert on the game)
All charactors apart from Cait Sith are top tiers DEPEND ON WHAT USE THEM FOR AND WHEN saying that CaitSith can kill Emerald weapon in 1 hit

You can use any characters and finish the game.
No, because Final fantasy 7 is an easy game. Watching or reading tutorials on the bosses will prevent you from dying alot against bosses.
the game is not about the tier of the characters but the tier of your materia collection because that gives you powerful skills, abilities, magic, summons, command, support, etc. You need to level them up in max to use their full potential. You can beat the game with any character you want.

For worst in battle I say that has to go to Cait SITH NOT Vincent since Caith Sith's limits both of them IMHO are pure CRAP.
Vincent is useful in challenge runs at least because his transformations boost his stats in really handy ways. Death Gigas and Chaos are both very useful when you're banning various other things.
Cait Sith is marginally useful as an instant win button when you can't find another way to win a battle with weird self-imposed conditions and need to simply continue the game. So in other words he still sucks :P
I agree. The fact that Cait Sith dice can roll Death is a reason I hated using him and never did unless it was part of the story.

I think a lot of kids loved Vincent because he was like a vampire who's name was Vincent. I thought he was dumb because you had to go through trouble to get him, he has a dumb claw for an arm (like why?) and his stats are so mid that 10 year old me could tell he wasn't effective whatsoever

Me personally I’d put Aerith lower than Vincent.
I’ve been playing FF7 and so far Vincent is a perfectly fine character who does more damage than Barret, even when I first got him and they were more even.
While Aerith can be a good support character and has high magic, anyone else can equip magic and do good damage. Her limit breaks not being able to do damage also brings her down for me because you can’t just save limit breaks for later and do a normal attack, so say if Aerith runs out of MP, she’ll just be sitting there defending until she needs to use her limit break.
