    I love my Bush Buddy mini. You can light from the bottom or top. 4oz. No fuel shortage anxiety. It can be a great wind screen for a alcohol stove or burner like a Toaks or home made version for just an ounce more. A couple ounces of fuel and still much lighter than even a BRS + iso can. Not fast like gas but who cares if it takes 2.5 minutes or 5 minutes to boil. Collect some sticks while you walk and have a hot lunch or dinner and can have as much coffee or hot tea as you want and never ever worry about running out of fuel. Worth the price and months to get. Also not jet engine loud like a gas stove.

    I am now a proud owner of a BushBuddy stove. My stove has the bottom and I can pick it up while fire is burning inside. I love it. I even got Jeff to autograph it with electric pen. It is made in America and the quality is amazing. I recommend the Pocket Bellows to get the fire started in stove.

    Thank you for lighting from the bottom!😄 it cracks me up how everyone will say you’re “doing it wrong” it’s a TLUD stove. If your water boils, you’re doing it right. With such a small burn chamber you usually have to add wood anyway, so TLUD is a silly point.

    I've had my Bush Buddy for a decade now, got it in the transition between Fristz retiring and before his protégé at Nomadic Stove taking over the Bush Buddy brand. Watching your tests, this guy needs the same thing as the big brother and that is a wind screen. Hell of a piece of kit

    I light my Firebox titanium mini from the bottom and it can burn long sticks.
    The problem with all the wood stoves that I have bought and made is that the heat is not constant. As the fire burns down, you lose your boil. At times this can be an advantage, especially when you want to simmer or merely keep food/drinks warm. On a thruhike or long section hike, at the end of the day you will find that you may not be up to fiddling with a wood stove, especially if someone else has already started a campfire. Wood stoves are not as effective at drying damp firewood, either. During my month long section hike on the Appalachian Trail this spring, I used my alcohol stove almost every day. I used my Firebox Nano maybe 6 times due to weather and late arrivals into camp. I put it in my car at the end of the GSMNP, and used only my alcohol stove until the end of my hike.
    I will definitely take a wood stove on shorter hikes in the future, especially if I leave my guitar at home 😁.
    P.S. I might buy a Bush Buddy mini anyhow.
    Just because. 🙄

    Have you ever tried to do a comparison between a regular stick stove, like a firebox or something similar, to a gasifier? Like does it make any SIGNIFICANT difference in the volume of wood used, and or amount of heat produced?
    Like once I have my firebox going, there’s almost no smoke at all, because it’s so darn hot. Can you really beat that, and does a couple more or less sticks really matter?

    This looks great with benefits around size and weight, I do though prefer the closed bottom of the original for reduced fire risk and it means it can be moved in use and used in more situations. I have a Solo Stove (before I knew Bush Buddy was original) and it works great and quality is right up there. I was going to buy a Bush Buddy to do a direct comparison review but 14 week lead time on both products put me off and suggests to me that Bush Buddy are not looking to supply a mass market (which is fine - many Companies prefer this handmade limited production approach). The mass production approach from Solo Stove brings with it a consistent high quality product so not a 'cheap' copy by any means but a copy it seems none-the-less. Great review as always 👍

    Big thumbs up from deepest Dorset England 👍 another great video! I think the empty bottom (!) is a bit of a two edged sword. Whereas I fully understand the thinking behind being able to light it from underneath or on top, the down side are surely the fire scars and the real possibility of underground fires, something you don’t have to worry about with the original or it’s countless knock-offs. My knockoff nestles inside a Tibetan 1100 and is a favourite when fires are permitted. Once again many many thanks, Clive from deepest Dorset.

    I don't like the open bottom as allows the ashes and possible small coals to be on the ground, so you will need to be careful with where you place it, so that residue doesn't damage what is under it.

    As always, great review! I really enjoy your reviews every time. Regarding the Bushbuddy Mini: it looks like a very nice and versatile stove. My main concern would be the flames coming from the holes at the bottom. While the Solo Stove lacks this option to be lit from the bottom, it seems way more safer and it is also possible to move while it is burning. An optional bottom tray like the Littlbug has would be very useful for the Bushbuddy Mini.

    • @teresakines8888
      @teresakines8888 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can sit it on a little titanium plate (like Snow Peak) and even move the entire thing if need be. Also stabilize the surface.

    • @BradyPatterson
      @BradyPatterson ปีที่แล้ว

      The chimney effect prevents this. Even with the big version you will once in a while in a gust of wind have flame shoot out the little holes but that's basically like passing your hand through candle flame meaning too brief to do anything.

      @@waynehead7271 directly from the bushbuddy web site: The story of the Bushbuddy Stove began in Canada in 1999 with Fritz Handel. He had come across a fan-operated wood stove that ran on batteries. At the time, it was a good design although it was not very practical to be reliant on batteries when journeying out in the wilderness. The first Bushbuddy prototype was a simple conical stove based on an old Gypsy design used by wandering tinsmiths to heat their soldering iron. bushbuddystove.com/pages/about-us

    I really like the price on the Bush Buddy mini , that's nice. I like the ash tray in the Solo Stove stove and Original Bush Buddy's. My Solo Stove can become a alcohol stove by putting some alcohol in the ash tray. ( I'm sure that is not recommended by either manufacture ). The ash tray also keeps the stove from burning anything it's placed on ( wooden table ). There is a Double wall Titanium stove like the Bush Buddy & Solo Stove , the double wall titanium stove is The UNA by Suluk 46.
    The last few years my choice for wood burning stoves has been the Titanium Firebox Nano Gen 2. It's lighter , packs smaller and can burn short or long sticks.

    Have you ever used the MKettle? It’s similar to the backcountry boiler which went out of business. It’s super fun to take on hikes when you just want to boil water for coffee, tea, or dehydrated meal. It’s a chimney kettle and super efficient wether using an alcohol burner or wood for fuel.
