    Good Evening Ernie,
    We truly hope this comment finds you well. As we stated on IG, we sincerely appreciate your wonderful support and amazing encouragement with regards to our Pack Stove. It has been a long and arduous process, however, receiving such tremendous feedback from people like you make it all worth it. Your video review is top notch and hits upon so many excellent points. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and helping us spread the word. Per your critique on the bags, which we find to be spot on, we are moving forward with a different option. Your honesty and input is much appreciated. Finally, I used the “paleo” method of starting the stove today and it worked brilliantly... footage coming soon.

    How is this a game changer? Because of that small pot stand that holds the Stanley Cook Cup beautifully! Those of us who love the Stanley know the limits of finding a stove with a small enough inner circumference to prevent it from sinking through while being large enough in the outer circumference to make the tall Stanley stable and safe from spills. This new little stove does All That. Showed this vid to hubby and he loves it too. It's a huge "GOTTA GET ONE" for us!
    FINALLY THE STANLEY CUP HAS A SOLID MATE!
    💯🎯👍❤

    Ok... first off I just add you to my list of subscriptions. #2 WoW!! To that stove!! I bet more than half of the outdoors community owns that Stanly cook-cup but they don’t carry it cu’z the only good way of using it was over an open fire. This little stove is a game changer. Although $44 isn’t a bad price for a early production run I really hope the price comes down in the near future. I’m a older retired guy & have a limited income so it’s still a little steep for me, but I must have one of these elegantly simple wonders before I die!! I hope this little company takes the outdoors world by storm!!

    Based on your review, and watching this video multiple times, I bought one of these stoves. I’m very happy with it.
    You are right, the fire can get super hot and blow through the wood, but water heats up quickly. It’s a good problem to have. Even wet wood will burn hot, once the stove gets going.
    Thanks for introducing this stove to me.

    Cool little stove. Glad that somebody finally figured a way to use that Stanley on a little stove. The tapered bottom on the Stanley makes it hard to fit most stoves out there. Good job Ernie!!!! looking forward to the next video

      Seems since it took this long for Stanley to good a decent working option that Stanley would have took the time to alter the cup for existing options. Don't get me wrong I have a rediculous amount of Stanley gear for camping and life in general, I love their products. I would gladly buy a redesign 2.0 to use more easily with my gasifier pack stove. Would probably be more stable on my svea 123r as well. I do know they taper that corner though for ease of cleaning. The other large pots are the same way.

      I like the Firebox Nano as well. Because it folds flat I can pack it anywhere, including a small fanny pack for a short hike. It also fits in the pocket of the Pathfinder water bottle carrier for my 32 oz stainless bottle. My alcohol stove, small 3 oz bottle of alcohol and GSI cup and I am set to purify water or make a quick bite in a matter of minutes even in inclement weather.

    It seems like most of these little wood stoves are designed to be multi-fuel, which is pretty neat. Although not as light or compact as my Firebox Nano 2 steel, it is cheaper and comes with everything. Even the X kit from Firebox doesn't come with the additional windscreen or solid fuel plate.
    I love the Firebox Nano, for the record and it is worth the money!

  • @Oldsparkey
    @Oldsparkey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ingenious and well thought out. As far as being multi fuel ( alcohol , wood and solid ) there are a couple others out there which have the same ability. I use a trick in my wood burning stoves to get a longer burning time without having to feed the fire all the time. I Loosely stack the sticks upright in the fire chamber.
    2 good experiments you might like would be lighting it like you did on one test. You know it will burn but for how long ? Next one light the top of the sticks on this test. With all that ventilation it should draw in enough air from the bottom up to burn from the top down.
    I use a Evernew titanium burner in my stoves as a 2nd heat source for a quick hot beverage. I pack it in a zip lock inside my cup. The zip lock is to keep any unburned alcohol or residue from the cup. Just playing it safe since Denatured alcohol has a poison in it so you can't drink it.

      Good Evening,
      We hope this finds you well. Thank you for the kind comments on the stove. As for your affinity for the Firebox, we 150% agree! As we stated above to another viewer, we think the Firebox is truly an exceptional stove- not to mention pioneer of the market and the Gen 2 - 5” is especially top class. If you are doing some solid camp cooking for multiple people, you would be hard pressed to find a better option. This is why we are doing our best to try to differentiate the usage philosophies. The Pack Stove is really best suited for 1 to 2 people, on the trail or out canoeing for the day and only needing/doing light cooking and/or water boiling for meals. The burn chamber on the Pack Stove, though ample for the stove’s footprint, is just not big enough to hold the big fuel needed to sustain a long, tempered burn and amass a thick coal base. Perhaps touting another stove is a horrible sales tactic, however, we always strive for absolute transparency and want to let people know our design intent and honest thoughts.
      Be Well!!

    • @robertlarkham2428
      @robertlarkham2428 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      STG, thanks for your honesty and integrity. Seldom found in business today. As I said, your stove is very cool. I love the innovation. If I didn’t have three firebox stove with 4 Trangia, and 1 Evernew burner, a pocket rocket and primus butane stove I’d be all over this. I love the way you built it around a Stanley cook pot...great idea! I’m more of a car, raft camper and most of my setups are based on that. Last winter I literately spent well over $1500 putting together car camp cooking boxes, a legit bugout bag as well as a day hike bag. If my day hike bag was not set up I’d be all over this. Keep up the great work.

    When you first put the Stanley pot on the stove I thought...ut oh...not enough ventilation at the top of the stove where the pot bottom is...will smoke like crazy and depress flames. Your camera angles really didn't show much smoke (you did say wet condition). I modified my Emberlit stove w/ drilled holes at the top which worked wonders. I wonder how this stove would work with pots other than the Stanley used in the vid. Make a nice follow-up vid. Thanks Ernie!

    • @simpletheorygear
      @simpletheorygear 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent point! We did our best to include built in exhaust ports to combat this problem, however, going from an open, unrestricted vent, to one somewhat impeded by a pan or pot will still result in some dampening. This effect does benefit our stove somewhat bin that it slows the consumption of fuel and prolongs the burn. However, with all transparency, with bigger vessels, there is some banking of the smoke. Thank you so much for the great comment!

    • @walkerone9833
      @walkerone9833 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@simpletheorygear I have that Stanley pot and love it. There are millions out there so to design a stove around it makes sense. The ability to use wood, alcohol or solid fuel tabs really does make this a viable piece of gear. However, cooking is a large part of these stoves, not just boiling water, so to see a pan of bacon and eggs on it (which is very prevalent on TH-cam vids would still be important I feel for the masses to see. Extra smoke would in no way be a purchase killer as long as it wasn't extreme and the flames greatly retarded or extinguished. I appreciate your transparency and comments.

    I love twig stoves. Loooove 'em. But my main issue is when they feel 'too open', and embers can get away ever if theres just a little wind. Also scortching the ground. But mainly embers and whatnot. Hence I STILL stick to my Solo Stove. Also the burn heat and efficiency of the Solo Stove design is a win for me, leaving next to nothing left in the box. Now, if that stove and this one had a baby, oh man! Noe we're talking!

  • @darrylarsenault5005

    would be ultimate if it had a priming pan for using alcohol stove in winter. and a way to keep stove up off the ground like feet on the priming pan. ultimate I tells ya! an optional priming pan that is stored same place as the grill piece

    Its a nice design, I just think it's too heavy for what it is. It's not thst much different then my evernew TI stove about the same cost, but is 1.9oz, vs over 11oz. Would be interested in seeing if over time they come out with a lighter version.

    You know what it has been quite a few years since I did a lot of camping and backpacking and it is like I have been asleep for decades and now I wake up to discover that 90% of people are so brainwashed by technology. They cannot even go camping with out all of the trappings of 21st century tech even right down to how they cook their food. They cannot even stand not being able to use their laptops, cell phones and tablets so they lug these with them along with solar panels to keep the batteries charged and then then all rush out to buy a fancy camp stove that also has to be lugged around, this is fine if you drive to every where you go and then call this camping but is not too bright if you are back packing unless you have a pack mule. Back in the day when I was back packing all I carried was a surplus WW2 mess kit a WW2 canteen with the cup that that the canteen fit into, these served as your cooking pots and frying pans etc, along with these a good hunting knife with a sheath and a shovel that folded and a hatchet. For cooking all I did was to dig a shallow trench that lined up with the direction of the wind and the width of the trench was smaller than the smallest pot and gradually got wider for the larger pans you may have. I was going to use that way you did not need a grate to set the pot on you just set the pot down an the outer edges straddled the trench. You build a fire in the trench and let it burn down to a bed of embers and you feed the fire with new fuel at the up wind end of the trench, If the fire was a little too hot all you had to do was to spread the embers out along the length of the trench so the hot embers were not as close to the bottom of your pot. By having a trench with a little practice you are able to regulate the cooking temperature just like the dial on an electric cook top. Oh and here is another long forgotten trick, how many of you struggle to clean the soot deposits from the sides and bottoms of your expensive pots and frying pans? when cooking on an open fire here is what you do. To minimize soot build up wait until the fire burns down to a bed of hot coals without a lot of flames, but also take a bar of soap and rub it like wax on the bottom and sides of your pots until it is coated with a thin layer of soap. Any soot build up will be on the soap and not on the metal of the pot and is easily wiped off when cleaning the pot after its use.

      PaleoHikerMD Is the aluminum a health issue?

    • @PaleoHikerMD
      @PaleoHikerMD  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Many people ask that, and I think it is an individual decision. My opinion is obvious because I use aluminum without issue, but that is my decision. We put things in our bodies every day. If you eat anything processed, out of a box, fast food, etc...is it a health issue? People love to focus on aluminum as they cook up boxed meals with 57 ingredients in their stainless steel cookware. Come on man ;)
