  • It's been a year since we packed up our Uhaul and moved halfway across the country to Orlando so that we could live next to Disney World. Today we are reflecting on our fears before moving and our thoughts after one year.

Can’t wait, we sold our home in Massachusetts and our new home to be built in Clermont will be about 15-20 minutes from Disney. We’ll be moving to Davenport and renting in January for a few months. We will be getting annual passes and going ever week. Some of our friends think we’ll be bored with Disney but I don’t think we will. We will be retired and have lots of time to do anything Disney related and I can drive my muscle cars all year round in Florida !

We moved from Richmond, TX (Houston area) to the Orlando area about 2 years ago. We had lived in Houston for 22 years and just wanted a change... what better change than to live near Disney? We like you came to Disney for the first time in 2008 and went every year since that time. Its such a refreshing change to be able to hop over and ride a couple rides and have dinner and then be back in your own home and sleep in your own bed whenever you feel like it. :D

My dream if retiring near Disney was crushed when we came there and were in the hurricane. Now I have no where that I want to go. Can you give more details on weather issues, the actual move, how you schedule it, prices for insurance and any other expenses in Florida that may not be in other states? Bought resale back when we still got all the benefits and we could easily sell it right now for a profit. We are using the points to go to Aulani over Spring Break and so excited. Not sure buying direct is quite as tempting as it once was, I haven’t run the numbers recently and those points are pretty pricey.

By the time she was 7 or 8, one night as we were leaving the park, she said, I don't ever want to come here again. She knew every corner, every street, every show, it was boring. It's not peaceful at all anymore because of the northerners moving in we were used to it during the winter but now we never get a break from it. I will not move but lots and lots of original folks are the ones that made Florida so great. You all will get tired of being in 2 hour traffic going and coming back to do almost anything.
