    This was the second Harley Benton i ordered during a four guitar run from Thomann. I could not stop. Just on to the next model. The SC-Custom, TE-70 Paisley, TE-90 FLT, and CST-24T. All were single guitar orders, at $35 U.S shipping, taking 7-10 business days each. Set-up is going to happen on every guitar i buy, no matter the cost, because i pretty much take everything apart, guitar or whatever. I can't help that. It is just fun. These were nice, but all guitars can be nicer with the player altering the set up themselves to taste. I have not had any issues at all with Thomann. Never had to contact them, complain, send stuff back. Less than $800 for 4 very good guitars with very unique tonal differences.

    Great video man, thanks for an honest review on these. Deserves more views.
    "Lets bump the gain on the amp and check out some heavier sounds"
    Barely sounds like you upped the gain at all, at best a classic rock tone. Hardly heavy. Maybe should've saved that line until you went for the metal tone at the end. Lol.
    What do you think of these as a 'mod platform'. Something to take and put higher end stuff on, electronics, hardware, ect?

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha I'm not a modern metal player so "heavier sounds" mean different thing than to someone else. As a mod platform: YES! The woodwork and overall construction is really good for the money and I was genuinely surprised how well the guitar was finished. I personally would start by swapping the pickups and getting a new nut on the guitar, after that it would be good to go for me. Maybe some fret polishing too. Unlike many other budget guitars I feel this one would actually be worth modifying, because the as I said, the overall build quality is great.

    • @SparksHardcoreMusic
      @SparksHardcoreMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CatPickStudios Awesome. I been heavily looking into Harley Benton lately, asking basically anyone messing with them how they are. I don't expect much out of the pickups, but keep hearing the bodies and necks are solid and well finished. Sounds like the perfect guitar to drop some new pickups into for a good looking, cheap well playing guitar.
      Yeah I am more of a modern metal player so when I hear 'heavy' I think metal, not classic rock lol.

    • @cibbantwist
      @cibbantwist 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I totally get that. I grew up on 60's and 70's rock, hard rock, punk and new wave, and I totally fell in love with electronica by early adolescence but as I picked up the guitar at 15 I turned to metal and prog rock and spent quite some time going down that rabbit hole. Although I have transitioned to and through numerous genres of music since then, especially in my playing, metal still has a special place in my musical heart and it's my go to place when I feel I just need to dump stress and frustration through the instrument.

    I’m torn between this one and the sc1000 with active pickups. The white sc1k is out of stock. I don’t really want the black one. I really like the blue on that one but it doesn’t have the active pickups. Are those pickups hot enough to do super high gain stuff?

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't tried the SC1000 so I can't compare. What I can say however is that you don't need super high output pickups on the guitar to get high gain sounds. Really hot active pickups kill most of the dynamics on your guitar. If you just play high gain, then it won't be an issue and you might actually really enjoy the compression and the attack they provide. If you want a bit more versatile guitar that could also do clean/rock stuff, I'd go with passive pickups. Really depends on what you play.

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! I'd say go with the one you like more looks wise. Body shape is the same, so is the neck profile etc. The difference really comes down to different finishes. I personally feel that if you're getting your first electric guitar, go with a sating finish. Some people may find gloss finishes sticky to their hands and it will negatively effect your experience of learning guitar.
      SC-1000 VB has a satin finish. But then again, if you really like for example the blue one I had in this video, I'm pretty sure you'll get used to it as well because you like the way the guitar looks and you want to play it. :)
      Good luck on your journey!

    • @CatPickStudios
      @CatPickStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well they are pretty much the same guitar with a different finish. Pickups with covers tend to be a little bit more rounder sounding, but the difference isn't drastic and sometimes taking away the harshest top end might be a good thing.
      I think you'll be happy with either of the guitars for the styles you mentioned, just pick the colour you like the most!

      @@CatPickStudios So which one would you prefer on this guitar the Seymour Duncun invader, mayhem or the hot rodded set (as people on the internet are saying that the Roswell pickups are very weak and sound muddy). Well I'm not really familiar with those pickups, but I do now Invader is super hot one. If you want to go Seymour Duncan and want a versatile set I'd say JB in the bridge and Jazz in the neck. Will Alder from Lamb of God used those in his signature ESP for long time and I'd say it's a great set for both metal and blues. Going for super hot pickups would give you great tones for metal but cleaner sounds might sound sterile. Hope this helps!

    Wait just a minute, it's gaining interest from the kids because it's inexpensive? Crud. I'm so screwed. I just ordered one, and while it is easily the least expensive guitar I own, I'm not a kid! I guess I'll have to find one to sell it to & just stick with my American Deluxe Strat & mid 80's Jackson for performing. Oh well. I have trouble understanding what was the point of your comment...

    • @TheBsavage
      @TheBsavage 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CatPickStudios Well, I thought my remarks were fairly straight forward. You introduced your video with a lot of energy, saying "Well, hello there! My name is Vladimir. Welcome to my studio. Today we're checking out the Harley Benton SC Custom in "Ocean Flame." Harley Benton is something that is gathering a lot of interest, over the Internet, so to speak, as the kids say. I think, maybe. Most likely not... and the reason is that they are really affordable yet the quality is pretty good." I thought your intro was a little wacky. There was so much energy, and then the oblique references to "the kids," and then the Ulysses-like stream-of-consciousness "...I think, maybe, most likely not." The immediate self-censoring, unnecessary automatic self-correction, was so honest, so humble, that the combination was both unusual and endearing. ADD TO THAT that I'm interested in these Harley Benton guitars and I am no where near to being a kid, YET I've been using the Internet since the mid 1980s, even before it supported graphics, & so I'm solidly in the "Internet camp," and also interested in the guitar, yet not a kid, and so I thought I'd post a somewhat whimsical comment in a clearly *failed* attempt to add a modicum of whimsy as an echo of your own. I frequently bring up "the kids," as you did in your Internet reference, generally complaining about them getting on my lawn, or making excessive noise with their loud exhaust systems on their souped-up Chevrolet muscle cars, *except* I'm allowed because I'm old AND YOU AREN'T. So to hear you bring up "the kids," when in my eyes you are a "kid" (no disrespect intended, but at my age just about everybody is a "kid," relatively) I find somewhat comical, almost a caricature of what a geezer like me says *except* I've earned it. IMO, you's gots a wayz 2 go afore you can authoritatively rattle off that phrase. Oh, & BTW, I've still got that SC Custom Lemon Yellow on order. It's spent 3 weeks being "shipped," 2 of those weeks in the same shipping receiving center in some small town in Germany. I mean, I know it's the holidays & all, but two weeks tucked away in some corner of some dingy warehouse somewhere? For what? I ordered one of those EXCELLENT Harley Benton vintage 2x12" guitar speaker cabinets, the one loaded with the Celestions, at the same time & it took only 7 calendar days from Germany to California (USA) and the cabinet is much larger & heavier than a guitar ... so still waitin', to rock, could be a while, dunno.... might do a video like yours when/if I get a HB SC Custom. It probably won't be as good as your video review, certainly without nearly the energy, but if I do you'll know it because I'll reference "the kids" nearly constantly as an homage to you, Vlad. You don't mind if I call you Vlad, do you? No slight, or vampire reference. I love Romania & own property on the Black Sea in Constanza. I don't want to be a goof, or make light of a review, but at least it won't be one of those drunk "reviews" I see scattered about on youtube because I don't drink. Plus the guitar will be yellow not blue, so there's that. ;-) peace. keep on rockin'!

      Got my SC Custom. I'll have to post a full review video, in the meantime my thoughts: Gorgeous guitar. Unbelievably beautiful. Action is okay, slightly too high. Strings are utter garbage. Machine head tuners are great. Electronics don't work. Sending it back for warranty replacement.

    you should show the guitar with a white background, not black.

      Why?

      Because it is impossible to see something with that dark blue of the guitar.

      You do realise that using a white background would just make the guitar less visible, because whit is so much brighter than dark blue?

    Очень интересно было бы послушать, жаль что не понял ни слова.
