Broken drones is better than broken bones. Great points on water, easy to get dehydrated on the bike. Riding solo is awesome, requires a lot of self awareness on stuff like hydration. Loving the series!
Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with us Sterling. As a 37 year old amateur solo motorcycle adventurer you are an inspiration and a source for a lot of learning. Keep em coming :) Greetings from México.
I enjoy your narrative style and conversations with yourself. This episode was relaxing, calming, introspective, and a little nerve-wrecking. Just what a solo rider's life would be. :)
Early Sunday morning in Stavanger, Norway. Thanks a lot for shearing these beautiful films. I just got my new Tiger 900 and looking forward to a lot of nice rides in Norway. Your films give us a lot of inspiration.
I GOTTA SAY I LOVE YOUR STORIES -- FEELS LIKE I AM THEIR. I am going to do this in my country and you inspired me. You give us all so much joy. Short stories are the bomb.
Losing your Mavic really sucks, but there’s a lesson in there for sure. Never underestimate how much water your body needs in a desert environment....that can be fatal. Great series Sterling, really enjoyable 🍺🍺🍺
Sterling, I like to think of the drone as an enhancement to the video...not required, but merely eye candy. You tell a great story by being yourself and sharing your love of two wheeled adventures. Don't let the loss of the drone break your spirits. I think most of us are thankful to see the journey through your perspective. Ride safe, Derek.
I was in the same areas on my first cross country motorcycle trip at the same time you were. Love the footage of Mexican Hat with the drone! Someone actually turned me on to your motel & youtube channel after I got back. Looking forward to staying in Bisbee next trip. :)
Awesome series. I look forward to doing my trip from Ontario to Cali once covid is done. Muley point, and monument valley is definitely on my go to list.
Sorry about the drone. Loving your work. Totally agree about solo travel. Strangers just seem more likely to engage with you when you’re by yourself. Must be interesting watching how the environment impacts your attitude. Looking forward to the rest of the trip now that we’ve got the low behind us!
It’s amazing how we can all let something which is ultimately meaningless spoil the wonderful moments we are actually experiencing. I do it too. It’s important not to let these things get to us cause life is too good and too short. I love your videos man. What a cool spectacle Mexican hat is!!
I've been up and down the Moki Dugway many times - and it is always a thrill. But you missed the Valley of the Gods at the base. (I guess you had plenty of footage from previous BDR rides.) Muley Point is my all-time favorite ADV campsite!
I was heart broken for you when your drone crashed. Epic video before the crash, and at least you got that. What are you thinking for new drone? There are so many amazing choices this year. I'll be watching to see what you get. Thumb up on this vid!
For you hotel travelers, like me, Mexican Hat, UT has a couple motels by the bridge, with gas and food. You can easily get to the top of Moki Dugway from there and back in an hour, or include a loop around Valley of the Gods in two hours
Bummer about the Mavic buddy! Reminds me of “old times” on the MABDR! 😁 Another creative challenge, I guess. Looking forward to seeing what unfolds next. Cool stuff!
Too bad about the drone. Enjoyed watching you camping at Muley Point which has been on my bucket list for awhile. So many spots in Utah (and in the US) I want to visit by motorcycle, and camp. Another spot on that list is Echo Park in Dinaosaur National Monument. As soon as the pandemic is over I will hopefully be on my way. Greetings from Sweden
I e been on the route you are on, Moki Dugway. Long story for another time. Beautiful area & I appreciate your caution. Natural Bridges isn’t that far & they have water AND it’s on the way to Capital Reef(-: peace brother, you are the man!
Was there in 2016. Beautiful country, but can be really dangerous if you underestimate it. Got desert quick sand, lots of places to get a bike stuck. Had a couple of campers help get my Harley out of deep sand. You don't just jump off the beaten path without knowing what you're doing, and yeah, water - bring lots. Too bad you didn't have a fishing rod and hook to see if you could get your drone back, but crap happens.
Great footage and fantastic scenery. Pitching your tent so close to the edge.... weren’t you afraid of wind blowing it away unless you found a way to peg it down? Alex, Italy
Great video, I always wanted to do a solo adventure, but I don't know why I have always been afraid to do it solo since I know nothing about repairing my bike in case something happened in the middle of nowhere.
good deal. Even up here in the NW I carry more water than that. Clean water and food packing will get lighter as the trip proceeds. way back when, I did a round the US trip and I had a three liter camelback in my tankbag for easy access. now I see tankbags with that as a feature.
Really sucks you crushed the drone I feel it for You I was in same spot last year July in Mexican Hut and Moki Doughway hwy I think that's where you crushed it. What a spectacular stretch of a road that is.
My wife can't understand why I wanted to visit the '4 corners' when we were in Utah. 'Because it's there and I've never been there'..... somehow she couldn't relate to that reason. But I won out and we both enjoyed it. New adventures are the best. Sorry about your drone but it was just a machine.
An artisan uses tools better than others. Hopefully you will get the drone replaced soon but, the videos are amazing nonethe less. Best Wishes! carry on!
Moab, UT is the hub for all gear in that general area. Everything Sterling has with him can be found in Moab. Even a BMW I bet. hahahaa. Bring double water and be careful out there. Gas up too.
Which one? I used a Kermit chair in the beginning (which I like a lot but it is a little big) and then I switched to the green one which is a generic chair from an outdoor sporting goods store... about $30.
Enjoying the series, but I’m really surprised that’s all the water you have on you. I’ve ridden all around Southern Utah in early summer and I always try to have 100oz. of water. It’s a beautiful area, but it’s hot.
I like the series Sterling. I was so enjoying the beginning of this video...last week (on a five state tour semi-solo tour), I spent a day riding through Valley Of The Gods, up Moki, and spent the night at Goosenecks, then through Monument Valley the next morning. My photos do not do the scenery justice, and your video looked to be the one I would show my wife and say "THATS IT!! That's what it looked like!!". Sorry about the drone man. I dropped my whole bike on Moki, but fortunately, not down the sides =( Though I went all the way up to the top, I did not know about Muley Point until I spoke to a fellow camper at Goosenecks that evening. As spectacular as Goosenecks was, I would really have wanted to camp at Muley. Oh well...next time for sure. And I'll take my wife so she can see it too. Regards water: I use water to help keep me cool (cool vest, frequent stops to wet my hair and cool-cap, etc.) as well as drink and cook. Minimum 4 liters on hand, and I have a couple of 2 liter collapsible Platypus bottles that I can fill along the way.
@@SterlingNoren I was wondering when you went though the area. I was there last week and there was considerable amount of construction/repair work at the Mexican Hat bridge.
Sorry about your Mavic. It sure adds an amazing visual element to your story. So far you are tracking exactly the way we were supposed to ride. If you end up taking the ferry over to Bullfrog Marina and riding the Burr Trail up to Capital Reef, I'll just laugh.
That was pretty exposed spot. I hope you had your tent staked down well, but that's hard to do on solid rock. The winds can pick up any time out there in the desert.
I lost my drone down a cliff also. Funny thing was that my buddy came to help me and slipped and fell down the canyon and landed right by it! So I got lucky and found mine!😂 Stay Safe!
Hi Sterling, I've been enjoying watching your videos, bummer about loosing the drone. I worked with Rob and Bryce scouting for the AZBDR and could give you some suggestions on additional places you could check out, they would make nice video locations. If your interested just drop me a line. Pete
@@SterlingNoren Sterling, look up "The Arizona Lasso" on ADVrider. Its a 2450 mile loop around the perimeter of Arizona. It has the Camino del Diablo, I'll be connecting with the Arizona Peace Trail, North Rim of GC, etc. Lots of beautiful areas to explore.
