    You’re one of the ONLY TWO reviewers on TH-cam who reveal the HUGE PRIVACY issue with this camera. When you first turns it on, it will force you to activate it on DJI website. If not, it will lock you out and you won't be able to use it after 5 attempts. This is NOT a rumor, I have confirmed it with my local electronic store and they said that's true. I will never buy a product like that. I don't trust my data being collected by Chinese companies. Imagine Canon, Nikon, and Sony force you to do the same thing! They will lose many customers for sure. We need more reviewers like you.
    Thank you.

      Agreed. I didn't have to download the app for my DJI Pocket 2, but the Pocket 3 requires installation of the app. I reluctantly decided to download it, because I really wanted to use this camera for our channel. However, our phones are from Motorola, and they won't allow apps that don't meet EU GDPR standards... which the DJI Mimo app doesn't. This is SO frustrating, because the Pocket 3 has features (like the grid on the screen) that would be SO useful, and a far longer battery life than the Pocket 2. I'm hoping a competitor produces a comparable camera. Meanwhile, this Pocket 3 will - sadly - be returned to Amazon, and an appropriate review left to warn others.

    Don't understand your point about 10 bit. There are two 10-bit shooting modes. However, they can not be used in low light mode and in 120 fps. Also, a bigger lanyard could slip off the wrist when you most need it. Like your sense of self-deprecating humor. By the way, I discovered that you can tap the shooting mode icon on the screen and then use the joy stick to change between them. I found this easier than swiping them.

      @@CharlieVN I found that if you have the gimbal in the "tilt-lock" setting, you can tilt the screen up and the camera will stay level. As to your point about follow-mode being too fast, if it went slow, the subject might go out of frame and the camera would have to hunt for the subject. Finally, gimbal speed is adjustable but I haven't checked as to whether that affect subject tracking.

    with my pocket 3, the screen is rotation is broken. Out of the box the screen would not close at all. The spring would force it into the horizontal position. Then after a bit of use and storing in the protective cover, the screen seems to be missing any spring. It doesn't want to stay in vertical or horizontal fully. Just mushy rotation as if some internal mechanism is broken.

    I feel like youre expecting it to be more of a higher end camera, but it really is meant to be a mix of action/camera/gimball. Which is exactly why im considering buying an actual camera for low light situations specially because ive been looking at videos and im not convinced. But defiently i think im still going to get it because i would rather use this as long as the lighting is good because it definetly is good having the gimball, something that i dont want to be carrying so much wit a camera+gimbal.
    And about you saying dji is forcing you, i mean i have drones and its nice because you can easily update them and their warranty is very nice and cheap, so in the end i just dont think we should expect this to perform like a video camera . The gimball i would assume its good since i basicaly have a drone with a gimball that looks like that. But in the end for the price, a gimball and decent camera quality its a good buy. And in photo mode it only goes to 2.0. Second you cannot take a picture of the moon. It is will not focus at a distance. Might I be doing something wrong?

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      havent tried, the exposure difference is wildly off, the moon is basically a daytime vs nighttime shot, you need a high shutter speed, maybe 1/1000, iso 50 to expose for that, and everything else around you will go dark. Technically, focusing 10 foot away and locking it should get everything in focus.

    Thanks, it is nice to hear not just the rosy, glowing reviews, with some nano smattering of negatives just to make it sound like one wasn't bought off. Even non-electronics, like humans, have more we desire in ourselves, hahaha. But it is nice to know more than a smattering of drawbacks or limits. Unlike the Ace Pro, which seems like it's forging new action camera frontiers, but most of the reviews are really rosy, and half the time focused on low light greatness. Though it still seems the Hero 12 still has the best video quality with plenty of light, and I'm saying this whilst I burn with hate on GoPro because of my Hero 8 Black nightmare. just received it yesterday - was shocked to discover two things which are huge for me: no pause of recording possible - especially for such a compact camera (allowing filming with minimal effort) it s a HUGE thing to be able to pause recording and up the quality of your work immensly: cuts and clips with cuts without editing...
    not only does it not exist currently - the feature was even removed from the pocket 2 as i understand...
    nr 2: no way to lock exposure on the camera - having to resort to the app and phone just isnt practical in the real world

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      for the first pause of recording, that's a fairly recent development right? I cant recall cameras of the past having that ability. On top of that, how would it work with timecode? the pocket 3 is small, but it has timecode for professional workflows.
      lack of lock exposure is a shame, didnt bring it up because other cameras in the range lack that ability. at least full manual with ev guide exists, but I can see how that can be annoying for small devices.

    • @RA-rd3to
      @RA-rd3to 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CharlieVN could easily be - i guess - that pausing a recording causes timecode incompatibilities. and apparently - as you mentioned - apple has not even been offering that functionality ever / or only very recently. It has been available on android for ages though - can remember a trip around 2018 doing holiday videos using that.
      apparently it was also available on the pocket 2... a camera like the 2 or 3 with great video quality and gimbal in a supersmall package definitely has potential for great footage "on the go". Pausing and continuing recodings allows one to produce snappy short videos - with "cuts" - and "pizzaz" - but without - or only minimal - editing.
      still have my hopes up that pausing recordings and a simple on camera exposure and/or focus lock are simple functionalities added soon via FW upgrade. ;-)

    Same thing with my pocket 3, the screen is rotation is broken. Very unfortunate since it arrived only a few days before a trip so there is no chance of getting it replaced in time. I expected a more premium experience/quality with DJI products since my drone had no problems.

      will have to see about that replacement service when it's time. Firmware fixed a major one, not completely, but D-Log M in 4K 120 is huge. Now if they could put it in hyperlapse/timelapse video mode, that would be killer since it's so useful for this device. As for additional lenses, price point would be a lot higher, and you would make a tradeoff in sensor sizing.

      www.dji.com/products/comparison-op it does 8 bit 4:2:0 in H264, 10 bit 4:2:0 in HEVC. The main issue is that D-LOG (preferable for color grading), is only available in strictly video mode, specialty modes like low light, slow motion, and timelapse do not offer D-LOG and if you're an enthusiast, this may matter. If not, using DJI's Normal color on all modes is an option, and that can be done with everything 10 bit with the use of HEVC.

    I hate when small fry accuse larger channels of being dishonest...
    1. "Focus Breathing"- you're literally trying to demo this and it's not really "breathing". It might overshoot when you give it two extreme focal lengths, like you did but "breathing"? Breathing is when it can't lock onto a static target and moves back and forth.
    2. DLog M- you're ASSuming wrong. Both DLog M and HLG are 10 bit.
    3. There's never been an "1" sensor", it's a misnomer. Everyone that knows anything about photography/ videography knows that. The sensor standards have been messed up since day one. EVERY 1" sensor camera carries approx the same dimensions.
    4. Active Track- who exactly is rocking back and forth while filming a video using face tracking? If you try to lose Active Track, you will. If it's your goal to make the footage look bad, it can be done.
    5. Screen Icons- is been basically the same icons since the Pocket 1. I just took the time to read the manual and memorized then.
    6. The Screen- you might not know this but the gimbal actually tilts up 90 deg, so you don't need to hold the camera at an angle to see the screen.
    7. Color Recovery- there's no nice way to say this, you need to read the manual.
    8. Design- the snap on pieces are fine. There needs to be the USB C on the bottom for an accessory that's coming out. I guess you should design your own Pocket 3 since it's obvious that you wouldn't be happy with any design choices they made. I'm 6'4" and 270 lbs and don't have a problem with the lanyard.
    9. Battery- are you still complaining that your phone doesn't have a replaceable battery? With the battery handle, the Pocket 3 will record around 4 hours and you can buy extra battery handles or plug it in to a power back.
    10. Activation- so you don't have the internet where you live? You don't have hot spot on your phone? You only have to register the device once for God's sake.
    Some of your complaints are subjective and you have every right to them. However, some of this was pure bs, easily fact checked in the manual.

      3. Serious... 1" sensor is not 1 inch and micro 4/3 also don't refer to the aspect ratio or the sensor size. So... yes anyone into photography or videography knows these nomenclature. That was really a nit-picking point. All 1"inch sensor p&s promote their cameras like this. So no one is talking about it because it is not even a valid flaw. In fact, it is a break through to have a 1 inch sensor in such a form factor.
      6. Not even all the cameras and I mean full fledged hybrid camera have screens that can tilt to do overhead shots. If overhead shot is what the person needs, an enthusiasts pocket camera is not for them. They need a pro set-up.
      7. LUT preview. Wow now you are really asking too much. Only the recent A7Cii and A7CR are incorporating this to their camera. And they are 4-6 times the price of pocket 3. TBF if the user can't color grade, then don't use log mode. Shooting in log mode is not a beginner choice.
      TBF to the commenter, many of 'flaws' you mention, if they do it, it will be a pro set-up, with pro price. But this is just a enthusiast's consumer action camera.

I was so lucky to be able to return my pocket 3 on the 12th day. Lastly DONT flick the monitor open by its self, guide and HOLD the monitor when you flip it. that flicking snap on the monitor seems to be the main failure on these models.

    #6 is wrong. You can have the camera locked in the target so the. You’ll be able to see the screen

      flashlight mode you mean? that can certainly work at a low angle, not at a high angle.

    Can you put the pocket back to the plastic protector with wide lens still on? Or you have to take it off and on each time?

    • @iamrishio
      @iamrishio 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it can be put back in the protector with any filter on (it’s very elegant in my own trial). Per the user manual, “With the wide-angle lens attached, the camera will face in the same direction as the touchscreen when powered off. In this state, the handheld gimbal camera can be stored in the Osmo Pocket 3 Protective Cover directly. The wide-angle lens can also be detached and stored in the dedicated storage location in the Osmo Pocket 3 Protective Cover.”

      @@iamrishio Thx. Cause some reviewers said it cannot be put back :D

      @@JoATTech Yeah, I know because I had the same question. It works elegantly, but the lens faces a different direction when turned off with a filter attached. I’m surprised non of the early birds even mentioned that. Everything is well thought out and I’m loving mine which I got yesterday. Per this review, I don’t really agree with all the negative points mentioned here.

    The lightweight camera with small footprint, clear and stable video, the nice low light shooting blinded me for some time -
    but then I realised that as a family vacation shooter this camera is USELESS if it does not offer OPTION of infinite focus.
    If I cannot get my subject and the surroundings ALL in focus, then that defeats the whole concept of vacation shooting -
    the bokeh effect (background blurring) is a massive hindrance than of benefit.
    Maybe if you are showcasing a product or person. Or trying cinematic storytelling - you may find it useful.
    But for millions of simple vacationers like me - who just desired crisp super stable video while travelling, taking in all of the surroundings - this lack of universal focus is a deal breaker.
    Lucky I stopped just short of making payment for it.

    If the Pocket series was annually, I would allow these flaws, but the previous Pocket was released years ago. Meaning the next Pocket would probably only be in three to four years.

    No one telling that. I love my zv1. I have pocket 2 and didn't liked, specifically articulated screen of zv1 allows you make video from unusual angles and larger screen.

    GoPro does the same, to use their cameras, you have to activate them with your account in an app
