    I'm one of those people that love the smell of marigolds. Also it's a nostalgia thing. I'm growing the Crackerjack variety this year. Love them.

      It's nostalgic for me too. The first time I planted them I shot back to my childhood home. I texted my mom and asked her if she planted marigolds and she confirmed.

    I fell in love with the strawberry blonde ones last year and I'm lining my entire garden with them this year to try and keep the squash bugs away.

    This is the best video I’ve seen on TH-cam about Marigold. I saw them on sales during pumpkin season, so I thought it was a cooler climate variety. I didn’t know they can tolerate heat! I started seeds mid of Jul, and just moved them out last weekend (zone 8b). Let’s see how they will perform!

    I used these trays this spring and they germinated the seeds yet it was a struggle to get the plants out most of the soil stayed in the cells, so I now use the Bootstrap Garden cell trays with the Soligt trays.

      I’ve always found that the soil needs to be moist and the little trowel helps, but I’m glad you found something that works for you!

      @@shesamadgardener This is true moist soil helps. These are good cell trays, they worked, I just began using trays that were better for my needs. I placed the old trays in the bin.

    As far as I know, it is the leaves that smell. So great for the vase if you strip the leaves off

    do you not have a problem with your seeds stored below the heat mat and under lights, I realize it is contained but is the temp not a bit high for seed storage? love your content thank you z5b

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t run it to a problem! The heat mats don’t put off that much heat and my seeds are stored at room temperature for the most part anyway so it’s on a few degrees higher.

    What do you find your time from sowing to developed flower typically is?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It varies per variety of flower … most are around 100 days.

      @@shesamadgardener yes I’ll try that but I’ve lived in New Zealand and Australia and in both countries I’ve had the same problem, shrivelled up leaves and when I dead head the whole plant shrivels up haha. I think I’ll give up with them. 😄

    Growing marigold coco orange & gold and the safari mix from Baker Creek. Planted some of the safaris in my front yard rose beds. The wild rabbits ate them to ground after the first night. So frustrating after spending the time to grow from seed indoors. Will plant the rest of my marigolds in my backyard where I have a gopher problem. I bought the solar repellent stakes. I hope the gopher moves out. One more thing: I planted zinnias and circled them with slug plus. My three plants have disappeared. Could birds be my culprit?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว

      Birds wouldn’t be the issue with the zinnias … you might have a rabbit there as well.

      Yes, cover the seedlings with a slight dome of chicken wire … you can use landscape staples to pin it down.

    It has been a terrible year for spider mites, already. What do you use for controlling them? I’ve used Captain Jack’s in the past without much success. Been using soapy water this year, also without much luck. Read a post to use alcohol with water but wasn’t sure how that would do with our heat. I live in Wylie, too. Interesting fact that you said Marigolds can be used as dried flowers. Never heard that before. Never know, right?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use the Captain Jacks. I have also found a firm spray from the hose knocks them out as well. Consistency is the key!
