For a while I owned a '66 Ford F100 pickup truck that I kept in the employee lot at Orlando International Airport. It was painted in 7 very nice shades of latex house paint, complete with a smiley face on the doors...
    Happy Truck!
In any case, I got in it one day and as I was pulling out of a space in the lot the brake pedal went to the floor. A leaking rear cylinder caused this. It finally blew out and I was stuck at the airport. Or so it seems...
The truck had a toolbox in back, and there was a bottle of gear oil in it; Oh what the hell I said, and poured the gear oil into the master cylinder. It worked! Interestingly, the brake pedal was VERY hard, and kind of slow, but it did the job to get me the three miles home. I replaced the cylinder the next day and cleaned out the whole system, which showed no signs of problems at all. Two years later the brakes worked just fine when I finally sold the old beast to a friend in Orlando; He still has it~

I once blew a brake line over 200 miles from home, limped as far as I could until I lost all brakes due to a single reservoir mastercylinder.
I crimped the rear line off, and luckily had a quart of ATF behind the seat, i filled it pumped the crap out of it got a little pressure and drove home.

I corner at 120km 70mph in the mountainpasses here in Bulgaristan with my Lada Estate, and face no problems with handling (even though we got potholes so big they lead straight to China). Ofcourse you cant expect a Lada to turn corners like a modern car though - first its a 60s design, and secondly its suspension is pretty soft, and is 5 santimeters higher than the original Fiat124.
