I googled him like 10 years ago bc of the Rebels live version with the confederate flag and came across his hilarious stories from this Tour including the loaded cigarettes, the book having the ending removed and tipping over B Dylan in the porta John. I laughed my ass off!

I'm a horn player, horns are the backbone of most bands. Rolling Stone is a joke, trying to keep Chicago out of the Hall for all those years for the sole reason they are a horn based band. Not for nothing I've seen Petty live multiple time, top ten artist of this genre of all time. Nobody understood chord progression better than TP. RIP Tom, I hope you're in a happy place, and thank you so much for all your contributions.

    Lyrics:
Honey don't walk out I'm too drunk to follow
You know you won't feel this way tomorrow
Well, maybe I'm a little rough around the edges
    Inside a little hollow
I get faced with some things sometimes
That are so hard to swallow
    Hey hey hey!
    I was born a rebel
Down in Dixie on a Sunday morning
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal
    I was born a rebel
Well she picked me up in the morning
And she paid all my tickets
Yeah she screamed in the car
And threw me out in the thicket
    Well I never would've dreamed
That her heart was so wicked
Oh but I keep coming back
Cause it's so hard to kick it
    I was born a rebel
Down in Dixie on a Sunday morning
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And on e foot on the pedal
    I was born a rebel
    Even before my father's fathers
    They called us all rebels
    Burned our cornfields
    And left our cities leveled
I can still see the eyes
    Of those blue bellied devils
    When I'm walking round tonight
    Through the concrete and metal
    I was born a rebel
Down in Dixie on a Sunday morning
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal
    I was born a rebel

In defense of the hair -- if you look at early pictures of him from his 20s and younger he still has the same hairline so I think that's just its natural state. Hey I get my hair as close as I can to Petty style but I'm a girl... so I will never be able to rock those epic sideburns.

@@TELE6220 Great. Going back to my original comment, you probably don't understand the context of this song, the video, Tom's later comments, etc.

I have been to Tom&Heart breakers show at BUDOKAN in Tokyo. Then there were a man singin' about
Rolling Stones. His name was Bob Dylan.

I didn't know this was a Tom Petty song. I had only heard the Drive by Truckers do it.

What an amazing group of musicians. Almost 40 years ago, just a few albums into their careers and they already sound so tight. They would only get better with Scott Thornton and Steve Ferrone joining the band.
