    Fantastic weathering work. I came over from Paul’s channel. I remember as a child these diesels always being very grubby and you certainly captured that. I’m primarily an aircraft modeller and it’s nice to see how other branches of modellers approach different techniques.
    All the best, Ian

    ¡Hola buenas tardes Tim! So, you're the man who put a rather wide smile on Paul's face? - I fully understand how you did that, after watching this video. I've only just plucked up the courage to remove the shell off one of my new MK3 coaches, to explore the possibilities of adding lighting. I think weathering the outside is a while away yet. However, with channels like yours and Eric's, there are certainly the experts out there to learn techniques from. Another vote of thanks, from me, to add to the others below. As ever, stay safe and well. Un saludo. Gary

      Thanks Gary, yep think he was over the moon with the finished result.
      Hopefully my videos give you some inspiration to one day brave a touch of weathering.
      Cheers.

    Great video! As always will have a go at this myself. And, as always, fail to come anywhere near this ha ha
    Assume, from the look of it, that first coat of automotive varnish is gloss finish? What are the benefits/reasons of choosing gloss over matt for the initial coat?

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the lacquer is a gloss finish, the one used on that and most the ones since this video is from halfords and worth getting compared to the likes of humbrol gloss varnish.
      It has to be a gloss or satin varnish as matt is to flat and holds onto to any layers of paint that I apply after making it almost impossible to move it around.
      Also the Isopropyl mixes I use to move paint around hate matt varnish and will frost it up.
      By all means the final sealant layer is fine with matt varnish but the protective layering varnishes need to have that sheen.

    Nice work. Can I ask something that's come to mind a few times while I've been catching up on your videos over the last week or two: what's the difference between the very thin wash-like "paint" you create by mixing the weathering powders with varnish and thinners, and just letting down paints with thinners? After all, paint is just pigments mixed with a medium. It *looks* like very thinned down paint as you apply it. I presume the effect when it dries is slightly different?

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The washes I make are more something I've adapted too pretty much from day 1 a good few years back. They technically do the same job as a ready mixed wash though the benefits from the ones I make is once on the model and fully dry, with a touch of thinner the wash is easily re-worked. So say if I wasn't happy with a streak then it's quickly fixed where as it would be a nightmare to adjust an enamel wash once dry.
      On top of that the colour pallets are left to dry and can be kicked back into life with a dash of thinner. This actual pallet in this video was mixed up a few months ago and the clip appeared in a couple of previous videos if I remember correctly.

      @@thescrapline4905 Any thoughts towards using acrylics? They tend to be a lot more forgiving than enamels for retouching.
