    • @ConscriptDavid
      @ConscriptDavid 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The distinction between souls is artificial and arbitrary anyways. There is no natural law that divides souls on a spectrum, but rather a magical regulation law, that makes sure gems are manufactured and enchanted in such a way that forbids the capture of sentient souls. Black gems are considered dangerous because they are outside this regulation. Basically.

    I love the incidental racism in Tolfdir's task for the rest of the students
    Brelyna, the Dunmer, a race often associated with ancestor worship and extensive religious tombs is assigned the task of seeking for warding magics
    and the Khajiit, traditionally considered a race of thieves, is given a task to see if any thieves or grave robbers have been through before
    xD

    Jon, all those summonings staffs like staff of the familiar that you don't care about, you can give them to your followers and they actually use them! They cast them at the start of a fight and then go over to their weapon, because it's them casting it, it doesn't count towards your limit, so if you gave the sanguine rose to Benor, you could have the dremora and the frost atronach out at the same time

      Even by Lore standards it is how mages train
      and it was a part of personal training in Oblivion, where the leveling system is a lot more complex
      but mechanically it is kind of cheesy when all spell purchases and perks are tied to the skill level

    For those who want to know more about the lore of Saarthal, Saarthal was a battleground between the snow elves or most commonly known as the "falmer" and the nords, alongside the nords was ysgramor. This battle at Saarthal between the nords and snow elves was called "the night of tears". The nords eventually took down the snow elves during the battle. The reason the snow elves look like the way they do now (falmer) is because when the snow elves fled from the nords they fled to the dwarves who they thought could save them from the nords which they did but at a price, blindness! The dwarves would manipulate the snow elves by blinding them. This is the reason why in dwarven ruins you might see falmer fighting against dwarven machines. For more info go to the skyrim wiki.
    I just was one who enjoys reading about the lore.

    • @gaminreasons8941
      @gaminreasons8941 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      First at this point they were still Atmorans. Second they never forced the Snow Elves to flee from Saarthal. The Snow Elves massacred them leaving only a handful of survivors. They were not at war. That's why it is called the Night of Tears.
      Then Ysgrammor (one of the survivors) went back to Atmora and came back with his 500 Companions. They then wage war on the Snow Elves eventually forcing them to require sanctuary.
      Then the Dwemer offers them sanctuary if they agree to becoming blind. Not all snow elves took the deal but regardless most did. The Dwemer then enslave them and the War of the Crag happens. The Dwemer then disappear due to Kagrenac in Morrowind. Then the Snow Elves eventually devolve into the derelict state we know them as today.

    • @blagageorge3824
      @blagageorge3824 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      er, not quite. the night of tears was the elves sacking and murdering everyone in Saarthal. in retaliation Ysgramor returned to Atmora and brought the Five Hundred Companions to slaughtered all the falmer, some of which survived by running to the dwemer.

      I find that Jon, unlike other popular let's players has avoided the deadly curse of complacency.
      When a channel gets large enough, they start to coast, assuming that their subscribers will watch whatever content they put out. This leads to massive differentials between subscriber count and actual views. The strongest example of this is the channel Machinima. Some of their content gets less than 95% of their subscriber count in actual views. That is what complacency does to a channel

    Invisibility was an Illusion spell in Morrowind / Oblivion, Jon. In terms of the lore, the schools are only a Mages Guild thing - so invisibility could be an Alteration spell to one person and an Illusion spell to another, and they'd both be right. Magic doesn't naturally have categories.

    Jon, you are not limited to helping people in town. The Jarl's entire hold counts. It can be tricky to find 1 last person to quest for in the smaller holds. They lack enough shops, smiths, halls of the dead and such.
    Don't sweat it. You'll probably end up doing it on accident. By the way, keep an eye out for a woman who hates bears just as much as you do.

    Lore answer to Jon's question about Draugr: The Draugr are groups of ancient man, mainly Nords, who were alive during the time that the dragons ruled all of Mundus. They worshiped the dragons, with the highest in their ranks being the dragon priests.
    Each priest was given two tasks. Their primary task was to control their subject populations through governmental and religious control. Their second task, given to them much later after Alduin was banished the first time, was to prepare large burrow sites that would serve to hide away large tombs that would then house thousands of their most loyal subject in an eternal slumber, until Alduin returned to Tamriel. The new subjects would then help assert Alduin's commands as he would try to conquer the world again.
    Unfortunately for those subjects, the slumber turned out to be permanent for large swathes of the population, and they will never wake again due to a currently unknown cause, although there are probably many theories as to what caused it. Even those that woke, including the dragon priests themselves, suffered from immense flesh and bone deterioration due to the long sleep, giving them the zombie-like appearance we see today.

    Jon, there are times when I think you'd benefit from giving Become Ethereal a go. It's not usually all that effective in combat, but it can save you a lot of time and/or hassle on those occasions when you want to just jump down from somewhere but the fall would kill you. The BE shout protects you from all damage as long as it's active, which includes falling damage--and even the first level lasts long enough for most falls. With all three words you're invulnerable long enough to literally jump off the Throat of the World and survive.

  • @CtrlAltGiveUp

    Jon, the Draugur that don't wake up are just fancy containers, like urns or stuff. The in-game reason they don't wake up though is that they've been in there for so long that the magic that keeps them awake has simply worn off iirc.
    Tolfdir did help in the fight: you can only damage Jyrik Gauldurson while he's draining the Eye of Magnus.
    And Jon, Nord names follow faux-Scandanavian pronunciation rules: J is pronounced Y. So, Jyrik would most likely be Yirik.

    Seeing as making someone disappear is by definition an illusion, I do think invisibility makes sense being associated with that school. Alteration changes the substance of things, such as transmutation and stoneflesh spells, while Illusion changes how things are perceived by others.

    Jon. inside the college is a trapdoor to a place called the Midden. You will have to go there later in the collage questline but you can go there now. In the Midden is something called the atronach forge with a large amounts of candles around it. If you take your ebony weapons and put them in a dwarven chest there along with 1 daedra heart, 1 centurion dynamo core, and 1 black soul gem (filled or unfilled) you will get a daedric version of that weapon. This only works if you don't enchant or improve the weapon first.
