hey Jon address this is quite interesting me and my friend are doing a competition where we level u certain skills up to 100 75 and 50 but that's becides the point. there is a thing you can do when your I like somewhere like a dwemer ruin or a long cript but when your companion is full you can talk to him tell him to do something and point to a chest or an item then he picks it up but it dose a glitch where when you try to remove armor it says that it's there starting armor or if you try to take anything else it says it's stolen ADDRESS THIS
He's talking about a glitch where if you 'command' a follower to pick something up, he/she will pick it up regardless of their carrying capacity, so a follower with 500/500 carrying capacity can still pick up an item with weight with no consequence. Happy to help.
Jon, you must have missed the journals that were spread around the starting part of that dungeon. That is the context that you were asking about. Also, I believe that if you would have placed the sword on the pedestal before killing the Pale Lady, she and her wisps would have disappeared.
Some things from the college actually count towards the thane's quest oddly. Even though the jarl hates the college. Speak to Brelyna and Drevis and do their quests to get thaneship in Winterhold. The quest for Ranmir actually doesn't count. The debts and the staff of authority are the 2/3 you have so far.
Also for Hjaalmarch it's collecting wood and fighting Benor you really need to do. Find the lumberers and do their wood chopping quests. The thing about "helping the people" means you have to do miscellaneous quests for them to be relevant. Quests that are named and separate in the log do not count.
You can give a drink to Ranmir after getting the "help my people" quest and that *does* count toward it, though. (It doesn't count if you do it before getting the quest).
It's not a bug. You need to help 3 different people. Helping the same person twice doesn't count, nor do favors for the jarl (including retrieving the Helm of Winterhold). You can get another point in Winterhold by helping one of the teachers/students in the college. Brelyna Maryon's task is the easiest.
Jon you should download the mod Unique Uniques. it reskins all the unique weapons to add more variety. instead of the same old ancient nord sword every time.
Bandit Chiefs are one of the enemies that just naturally do more damage. On a Light Armored character like Jon has here, there's not a lot protection to block from that instantkill.
2:53 no, the reason it's difficult to sneak up on them is because of the big ball of light floating over ur head illuminating you. ur basically 'sneaking' up on them while shining a light straight in their faces...
Jon, about the thane thing - it's not a bug. The Isabelle quest just doesn't count into it. There are total of 6 quest that count into the "help people of Winterhold", and 4 of them are in the College. You did the other two that are in the city. So you really should head up to the College now :)
One of my Skyrim characters is a necromancer and Hewnon Black-Skeever was one of the first guys I resurrected (just on a whim), and now any time he dies---thanking the heavens that his soul shall finally be free from my command---I revive him (he doesn't turn to ash because mods) and he's been travelling with me for ages. The two of us have been through many an adventure together, and I keep upgrading him with new armor and weapons (again, mods) to keep him up to par. _He will never leave. His soul shall be mine to command, forever._ Great pal. :)
Jon, quest like "farm wheat" "sell potato" "give alcohol to drunk" also count for the thane thing. Also it counts quest from the whole region not just the city, so for winterhold it is fine to do some quests for the college.
Once you finish the first Mage's Guild quest in Saarthal the other apprentices want you to help them with research. Also the different masters(Tolfdir, Drevyn, etc...) have little quests you can do around the College to help them out. I'm pretty sure all of those quests count for the requirement on helping people in the hold.
Jon, she was part of the gang. They blamed her for the theft, thus why she had a bounty out on her. The Pale Lady can be banished by placing the sword in the pedestal.
Tip on dragons, Jon- Normal dragons tend to have simple, straight and spikey tails, but Blood Dragons tend to have less-spikey tails with a large circular fan-looking bit of thin flesh at the ends of their tails. Far easier to tell the two apart at distance that way. Also, generally, Blood Dragons are vaugely green like the orkie-borkies.
If I recall, sidequests in the college of winterhold count towards becoming a thane in winterhold, even though Korir hates the college, but if it works, it works.
Jon, there were several letters and journals inside that dungeon which gave you all the context for the sword and the pale lady. They also confirmed Eisa's story. She wasn't lying to you. Sink some points into your Perception skill, man!
Jon, the chopping wood WORKS in Morthal. You just have to let the animation run through, just like mining. I just did it. Not sure about Winterhold, might have to finish the black star thing.
It takes quite long until vendors sell Ebony ore to you, but you could go to the Orc encampment near Windhelm. They have a mine there and you can mine about 20 pieces of ebony ore over there without having to do a quest for them to get in there.
Jon, Eisa (the women at the start of the dungeon) wasn't lying to you, she literally said that the bandits thought she stole the sword, hence the bounty xD
Jon, don't enchant the ebony items. turn them into daedric items at the atronach forge in the midden under the College of Winterhold, use ebony to improve them and then enchant them.
Azura's star might count as helping Nelacar for the Thane quest. The problem is that the final battle of the quest is tricky on higher difficulty settings.
I always unenchant the Gloves of the Pugilist, then add the enchantment to some Heavy Armour gauntlets once I reach Heavy Armour 30. With the perk that allows Heavy Armour unarmed attacks to do their armour rating in damage, plus the benefit from the Pugilist enchantment, you begin to win brawls even easier than before
A few things about becoming thane in many holds: there's a lot of things that you can do to help the people of the hold. Check the skyrim wiki of becoming thane, they have a detailed list of all the things that will contribute to becoming thane.
Hey, Jon, Fun fact: Equipping your pickaxe like any other weapon and swinging it at the ore deposit lets you mine much much faster. Nine swings and you deplete the vein. Much quicker than waiting for the animation to play through.
So that's what happened to Ranmir's wife! I remember finding the poor guy in a bar somewhere, running up a huge tab drinking himself to death because he thought she had run out on him. Yet another sad tragic mini-tale from Bethesda.

It's worth using/money. Never give them Black Briar mead like Jon as they hate it. Perhaps they're the political geniuses of Skyrim who prefer to party rather than get involved.
If you find a way to Ironbind Barrow along the road west from Windhelm you can get a unique Enchantment that can be learned and applied to any weapon Fiery Soul Trap -- does fire damage and Soul Trap, but only counts as a single enchantment (meaning a custom weapon can have three effects with the Dual Enchantment perk)
better than that, on Solstheim in the Dragonborn DLC, there is the Chaos enchant. Fire, Frost, and Storm damage all on one weapon. And if you put it on a Stahlrim weapon it gains bonus to all three damagr types because of the frost damage (frost elemental enchants are stronger on Stahlrim gear)
Hey Jon, are you aware that all the different dragon types are visually distinctive? For example, you can tell immediately it's a blood dragon because it's green and has that distinctive tail, amongst other things.
Please turn Azura's star into the Black Star - that's practically unlimited grand souls as long as you can bear enchanting things one at a time and going out to kill somebody in the meantime.

Alternatively, if the Legion wins the Civil War the Dragonborn can simply talk to the new Jarl and then help three people in the hold, thus bypassing the retrieval of the Helm of Winterhold. Helping three people can be done by: Give Ranmir at The Frozen Hearth Inn a drink, either ale or mead. Drop any piece of apparel from the Dragonborn's inventory inside the Frozen Hearth and give someone permission to pick it up, (it is likely that the piece will not actually be taken and can be picked up later). Help Haran convince Ranmir to pay his bar tab. Invest in Birna's Oddments. Steal Nelacar's staff for Malur Seloth. Sell ore at the Whistling Mine. Cleanse the focal points for Drevis Neloren at the College of Winterhold. Completing the quest First Lessons at the College of Winterhold. The Blade of Winterhold will be awarded, along with the new title.
Hello Jon! Have you tried giving Ranmir some alcohol? Causing someone coping with emotional trauma to plunge deeper into the pits of alcoholism might count as "helping the people of winterhold". Sorry if you already enabled him.
Jon! You forgot about the transmutation spell! It can turn Iron into Silver and Silver to Gold and you can make profitable jewelry and rank up your smithing
Hello Jon. As far as I understand, bringing back the Helm of Witerhold to the jarl does NOT count towards helping 3 peoples. What you've done so far is : - Stole the Staff of Arcane Authority for Malur Seloth - Convinced Ranmir to pay his bar tab The game doesn't care about the rest. What you can do that will help towards becoming thane of winterhold is : - Help Brelyna Maryon testing her spells quest at the college (available after Saarthal is done) - Help J'zargo testing his scrolls quest at the college (available after Saarthal is done) - Help Sergius Turrianus in the cleansing of the focal points (available after First Lessons is done) The last one is probably the fastest way of becoming thane. Just do the very first quest (or second if you count the admission) of the Mage college, and then go find Sergius (he's a Dunmer) in the college, his quest is easy and fast.
For the Thane quests, giving the Hold's drunk a bottle of something (alcoholic!) counts as helping! Also, when following the Mage Guild quests, you will have to help defend the Hold from a magical (wisp) attack, this also counts.
Jon, after hearing about your channel on Skyrim and watched the first episode I made my own account to watch your videos. Great job, keep me laughing!!
It really bothers me that you don't pick up every skill book you come across. If nothing else, 50 gold for 1 weight is a good trade, plus you can put all the skill books on your shelf and it looks pretty decent
Pro tip you can whack mineral veins directly with a pickaxe and it mines 10x faster. Also you can quicksave, whack a shopkeep, and then reload the game to refresh their inventory
Jon - "Benor, you're back! I was so worried!"

Yes he did.

Please turn Azura's star into the Black Star - that's practically unlimited grand souls as long as you can bear enchanting things one at a time and going out to kill somebody in the meantime.
here is the stuff from the wiki
(morthal)
In Brief
Talk to Inn Keeper of Moorside Inn, Jonna
Talk to Jarl, Idgrod Ravencrone
Complete Laid to Rest
Wipe out threat to Morthal
Help three citizens (see full list of options below)
Sell wood to Hrogar
Sell wood to Jorgen
Challenge and defeat Benor in a fist fight
Talk to Jarl, Become Thane
Winterhold (Capital: Winterhold)
Main article: Thane of Winterhold
Retrieve the Helm of Winterhold from a radiant location for the Jarl Korir, and then help three people in the hold.
Alternatively, if the Legion wins the Civil War the Dragonborn can simply talk to the new Jarl and then help three people in the hold, thus bypassing the retrieval of the Helm of Winterhold.
Helping three people can be done by:
Give Ranmir at The Frozen Hearth Inn a drink, either ale or mead.
At moment of checking no reported bugs
it is from the standard version but should have the same quests.
Hello Jon! Have you tried giving Ranmir some alcohol? Causing someone coping with emotional trauma to plunge deeper into the pits of alcoholism might count as "helping the people of winterhold". Sorry if you already enabled him.
"I can just speak to Vex and be done with it rather quickly."
Oh, Jon... You have no idea how wrong you are. xD
I like how you consider Black soul gems unethical, when you fancy yourself a Necromancer :P
Wards block any form of shout. Including dragon breath btw, you should think about using wards against those flying bastards.
What you've done so far is :
- Stole the Staff of Arcane Authority for Malur Seloth
- Convinced Ranmir to pay his bar tab
The game doesn't care about the rest.
What you can do that will help towards becoming thane of winterhold is :
- Help Brelyna Maryon testing her spells quest at the college (available after Saarthal is done)
- Help J'zargo testing his scrolls quest at the college (available after Saarthal is done)
- Help Sergius Turrianus in the cleansing of the focal points (available after First Lessons is done)
The last one is probably the fastest way of becoming thane. Just do the very first quest (or second if you count the admission) of the Mage college, and then go find Sergius (he's a Dunmer) in the college, his quest is easy and fast.
Jon do the Dark Brotherhood questline. You get some pretty good items.
Celltosis but he'd kill the empower which is counter to a empire run which I hopes he does cuz the empire is very Roman
The Dark Brotherhood are weenies anyways.
Babitat 7 you can do the empire quest line first and them kill the emperor
And shadowmere the immortaimmortal horse
Try the other settlement in winterhold hold, the mine
For the Thane quests, giving the Hold's drunk a bottle of something (alcoholic!) counts as helping! Also, when following the Mage Guild quests, you will have to help defend the Hold from a magical (wisp) attack, this also counts.
@13:00 - Weird. Wonder where Farengar's alchemy lab went?
the judgmental look on benors face at 35:22 was priceless
Jon. Jon Jon Jon.
Why is this series not called 'Many A True Nord'?
I am disappoint.
pushingpolygons his person is a breton.
Yes! Time to scrap this playthrough and start a Many A True Nord campaign.
That would still only be One Nord. However, if you observe, the continent of Skyrim is, indeed, populated with Many A True Nord.
I think the strength of the pun can withstand that minor detail.
You know who else thought that a large population of Nords were a minor detail? The Aldmeri Dominion. Are you a High Elf?
Funfact about me: On my first playthrough, I only went to the Greybeards once I became Thane in every of the nine holds.
Jon, after hearing about your channel on Skyrim and watched the first episode I made my own account to watch your videos. Great job, keep me laughing!!
You know that they can spot you more easily with your candlelight spell?
Also, expand your quests outside of the cities if you want to make Thane... the Hold refers to a larger area I think
It really bothers me that you don't pick up every skill book you come across. If nothing else, 50 gold for 1 weight is a good trade, plus you can put all the skill books on your shelf and it looks pretty decent
just an fyi blood dragons have the leaf shaped tails
What happens when an egg carton tries to sneak with a bright light floating above it? Same thing as happens when anyone else tries it.
Pro tip you can whack mineral veins directly with a pickaxe and it mines 10x faster. Also you can quicksave, whack a shopkeep, and then reload the game to refresh their inventory
