Throughout my life experiences I've observed what I describe as the "unwritten universal law", and that is that "nothing that is new and perfect shall remain that way for very long." Glad you're alright, and glad your bike is only slightly less new and perfect.
That I believe my friend, just got my new 2024 Harley Davison soft tail standard, couple weeks went by, no I didn’t drop her yet but I have accidentally scarped the left clutch handle on the side of my house, so it’s not perfect anymore at least the clutch handle, but that is true nothing stay new and perfect forever. Sorry to see this sir but glad you are ok. Had my first, and hopefully last, brown pants moment yesterday on my 2024 Transalp, hitting some mud on a turn. Front-wheel wobble on a lean in is an adventure of sorts. Righted it by luck more than skill and god only knows what was going through the driver's mind behind me. Wishing you well and safe journeys.
Thank you so much for being brave and posting!! I’m sure you’re more experienced than I am and I dropped my 24 Road Glide CVO the first day I had it. Luckily I had the crash bars but it still made me sick. I’ve been riding for almost 6 years without a drop but still trying to perfect slow speed maneuvering!! Stay safe!!

It didn’t turn out too bad. If you watch the video I show the damage. Definitely could have been worse. I’m so glad it wasn’t!! Crash bars ordered…. 😎🤙
There was a time that even the cheapest Harley had front and rear crash bars to prevent any damage, but the company noticed that they can make more money now, because everyone drops the bike sooner or later.
I dropped my 15 street glide. Course I was drunk, wife on the back, and I hit a bad patch of road work which threw the bike to the left. Wife leaned and that was it. I was on asphalt and strong enough to set the bike down. Course I had front crash bars. only damage was a little scratch on the bottom of the bag.
You can try light wet sanding on those deeper scratches on that left saddle bag with like a 2000 grit paper and then follow it up with white polishing compound. An orbital polisher will work better than elbow grease.

I think anyone who owns a heavy bike has dropped it, and if they haven't, they will in the future. Crash bars are worth their weight in gold. I've learned dirt, gravel, and sand are a no,no. The saddle bag could be repainted. Thanks for sharing 👍🏿

I feel your pain. I've shared two drops on my channel (my only drops!) doing darn near the same thing on one of them. A slow speed U-turn with gravel. My first was also on a poorly-decided (by me) incline. Appreciate your willingness to share your experience. That was one heck of a good pick-up as well. From your fellow Virginian...!
@@RamblinManMoto thank you brother. I have actually seen the video where you dropped yours on the gravel! It’s awful when it happens but we must ride on! 🤙 I appreciate you
Very slow speed on gravel , turned the wheel and just touching the front brake can make this happen. Lesson learned and I am sure you won't make this mistake again. Ride on brother.
I went to trade my sport glide got to the dealer and the guy said where’s the pannier ? I looked back in shock and it had fallen off some how along the way. Luckily I managed to find it a few kilometres back on the road . I did manage to buff most of the scratches off and luckily it didn’t affect my trade in.
That’s a major relief that you were able to find it-what a story! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. What did you end up trading the sport glide for? 😎
That sucks man! dropping your new softail low rider just sucks!!; you know, people that haven't ridden or don't own a big twin Harley believe that it's a piece of cake moving these things around dirt, slopes, slippery/wet grounds or such, wrong! these things are big and bloody heavy! so experienced riders like us take it easy on those situations, unfortunately sometimes despise the fact you take all precautions, some bloody god damn thing like this happens......not to worry, bike's fine, the handlebar is ok? isn't it? can tell by the video, but seems fine....scratches here and there but nothin' major, Harleys are built tough and to last, ride on man!
Bro I’ve seen so much worse than this and on heavier bikes and you’re absolutely right sometimes it’s just a perfect storm from hell 😂 that brings this type of thing! The damage is mainly to the saddlebag, the derby cover on the primary (already ordered a new custom replacement) and a few light scratches on the fairing. The grips/handlebars and mirrors are unscathed. The tank also didn’t sustain any damage! I’m grateful! I’ve got some crash bars ordered just in case… gonna keep on riding on! 🤙🤙😎
Sorry to see that man. I learned my lesson on my first Harley. Rookie mistakes with my first bike dropping it twice and a very costly mistake. I bought my new 23 Roadglide -ST last year and they don’t come with crash bars for the bags. That was one of the first things I bought for my bike. Front and back Santoro crash bars with replaceable tips. Knock on wood haven’t dropped it yet. It’s not a matter of if but when.
I appreciate you! Yeah, I think I’ve had crash bars on previous bikes and kind of took them for granted. Never really needed them. And so when I got this Harley, I looked at crash bars and with a $900 plus price tags for front and rear I decided to wait. Now I’ve learned my lesson for sure! Just ordered some from OG Moto. You never know, right? Thanks so much for sharing your experiences

OMG… your video just gave me such an intense episode of déjà vu! Back in 2009 I did almost the exact same thing on my nearly brand new XR 1200. In my case, it was a combination of wearing new gel gloves and I apparently had a touch of front brake on while rolling through (at about 15 mph) a right hand corner, which was OK while still on asphalt, but as soon as I hit a small patch of gravel… front wheel locked and I found myself slammed to the ground and sliding about ten feet. Wrecked my helmet, new gloves, low side boot… brake lever and exhaust nicely scratched on the then brand new Harley. Fifteen years later my ego is still recovering🙄… Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@r.stanley1049 thank you so much for sharing! That really sucks. Interestingly enough I was trying out some new heated gloves for the first time on this ride. I had stalled the bike (never happens) earlier in the ride with these gloves and figured I’d be ok… but that was my warning sign I didn’t have firm throttle control. There were certainly other factors here but it was like a perfect storm. Life lessons and crushed egos but it’s all good! I appreciate you-keep riding safe! 🤙😎

That came out clean, glad that you are okay! That’s the most important, I remember getting my first street bike when I was 24 back in 2014 it was an 2014 R6 brand new right off the showroom floor, got all the paperwork all done, went to the side to get on it, and when I did my right leg which my jeans caught the right foot peg and made me lose my balance, as I think of it now it was funny but at the moment it wasn’t, dropped my brand new bike and didn’t even leave the dealership yet, it was soooo embarrassing man and I was so mad at myself for that. It happens to the best of us. If you put on any miles then it's to be expected. I had a 2019 street glide special. I took a road trip from Ohio and rode to the West coast this past late summer. In Oregon a deer hit me and me and the bike went down. Praise God nothing real bad happened to me. Just some road rash and bruised ribs. The bike got lots of road rash but I could still ride it. I thought about heading back to Ohio but decided to continue North into Canada. I rode the TransCanadian highway back to Sault St. Marie then South to Ohio. When I got home my bike had a total of 114,400 miles on it. My insurance company totaled out my bike and issued me a check. About a month later I bought a 2021 street glide special. A couple of years ago, I was playing around on a mountain I ride all the time. Hit some loose gravel that wasn't there the day before and low sided my Fat Bob around 40mph. Crash bars did their job.

Front and back Santoro crash bars with replaceable tips. Knock on wood haven’t dropped it yet. It’s not a matter of if but when.

Yessir. That’s definitely the next thing I get for my bike!! Definitely regret not installing one before this.
Been riding 50+ years. Dropped my new 2023 bike in my driveway when coming to a stop. Driveway is gravel...Had to change the clutch cover, minor chips on the primary cover. Can't really see them. Lucky. Thinned out the gravel so it's not so thick and prone to giving away. Doesn't matter how long you been riding, we make mistakes, get distracted or just plain stupid. Join the club, it's not exclusive. If you had a beater, it wouldn't happen....
@@ralphrotten6912 sorry to hear about your experience with your 2023. In the moment it feels like the worst thing in the world! But then you get over it, at least for the most part 😁
You’re absolutely right though- if I had a beater it would never happen LOL. I’ve ordered some crash bars to hopefully prevent any future possible “mishaps.” I appreciate you brother, thanks for sharing your experience
I did the same thing with my new Heritage in August. Unfortunately, I didn't have the leg strength to set it down so gently and it body slammed me. My leg came down on the boss for the passenger peg and smashed some good chunks out of my shin bone. If you even been kicked in the shin, now imagine doing it with a hammer. It stung. Took about 3 months just to heal the skin wound. Not a lot of blood flow there, particularly for old diabetics.
@@saddle8bag that’s awful!!! Man I’m so sorry to hear. I hope you’re feeling better now and still able to ride!
@@saddle8bag thanks so much for sharing with us too, I appreciate you
My bike is tipped over many times slow with me on it. To bummer and sometimes there's damage like yours but it's all repairable and it all it is cosmetic so don't sweat the small stuff
@@robertconstantine9192 appreciate the encouragement brother!! That’s right, if you ride a lot it’s going to happen! Thankful it was low speed and could have been worse! Crash bars are on the way… appreciate you bro! 🤙
We all have dropped a bike
Wasn’t the first, won’t be the last… 😮💨
I dropped my 24 street bob the first time I went to put the kickstand down in my garage on the concrete floor by some miracle no damage or scratches at all sorry about your beautiful bike but glad you are okay
@@budredden818 phew you were lucky I’m so glad no damage to the Street Bob! Ive got crash bars ordered so hopefully I’m protected if this ever happens again. Lesson learned… gotta keep going and riding on. Appreciate you, thank you for sharing your experience
I believe that was lack of clutch control. You had the gas but not letting out the clutch made you fall.
Also hard to stop when your wheel is cocked.
Either way, dont be too hard on yourself.
Shit happens!
You’re right- I’m not gonna sweat it. It was definitely heart breaking in the moment, but sometimes a little humbling moment to get our attention is a good thing.
I’ve been trying to figure out just what the heck went wrong. I think other than the ultra soft dirt (freshly graded road), I was trying out a pair of heated gloves I’d never worn before and I think it screwed up my firm control of the throttle. At the beginning of the ride I actually stalled the bike with these gloves- should’ve been my warning sign to be careful with these gloves! Ride on my friend 🤙🤙
I just installed a HD engine guard with fairing brackets on my Low Rider ST.
Getting ones for the bags next.
Nice-wise choice and this video is exactly why! I just ordered some crash bars today. I was delaying getting crash bars because of the cost - but now I’m regretting that! I can’t wait to get the crash protection installed!
I bought a brand new 2021 Harley Davidson and it didn’t have the bars that protect the saddle bag that would’ve saved them from getting scratched like you got so I put leather saddlebags on until I could find a set that I could fit around the saddlebags like the old style bikes used to have it took me over a year but if I drop my bike now like you did and I have done that they don’t get damaged because I have the protection bars there be safe
@@kennethcole1551 absolutely bro! I just ordered crash bars today! I appreciate you!
I’ve dropped mine a few times.. luckily I’ve always had the engine gaurd when I dropped it. So nothing touched the floor except the front peg. Now I put the st Fairing on and my old gaurd don’t work, and I still haven’t put my new gaurd on.. it happens, just subscribed 🤙🏼
@@508knucklehead thanks my bro!! Just subbed you back. Dude I just ordered some crash bars from Original Garage Moto. It hurt $$$ but I don’t want this to be so damaging if it ever happens again! OG Moto gave me a discount but still…ouch! Thanks for what you are doing on your channel!!
@@508knucklehead also I was wondering about the 508… I’m originally from Upton and Rutland, MA in the 508!
Usually the first thing I install is engine guard:) I am new to riding also but so far I only dropped couple of time at low speed practice in parking lot.
@@mike8748 I was foolish and figured I didn’t really need them. Hah, lesson learned! I’ve got crash bars ordered and will be installing ASAP. It’s happened before and it will happen again- shame on me for not being prepared and delaying the purchase of crash bars 😮💨
Absolutely sucks about the dropped bike. For me is to constantly think about NOT dropping the bike when making slow speed maneuvers. I am sure you will end up replacing / repairing the parts with time. Side note: your video randomly showed in my feed and I just learned you also have a 2024 Tundra (got mine 4 weeks ago). Subscribing for more HD and Tundra content!
That’s so awesome! Glad to have you as a subscriber! We must both have excellent taste. I think I got a little complacent and that along with some new heated gloves, and the crappy soft dirt/gravel made the perfect storm. What kind of HD do you ride?
@@revfree I have 2018 Fat Bob. Sadly, I'm NOT a fan of Low Rider ST but just saw you had Fat Boy in the past and that model WAS on my 'short' list of fav bikes before I settled on Fat Bob. Looking forward to watching some of your old(er) videos on that bike!
@ I loved my FatBoy!! And the FatBob is an AWESOME bike too. The Low Rider ST just suits my riding style a little better. I hope to own another Fatty one day 😎
Do they make crash bars for that model ?
@@alvan4080 yes they do, and shame on me for not getting them. Of course Harley doesn’t include them with the bike so you have to spend extra. They are expensive and so I was putting it off. Lesson learned- always be prepared because you never know. I’ve got them ordered through OG Moto and will install them as soon as they arrive 🤙
Did this with my F6B…
Thank goodness for the crash bars…!!! No damage to the bike…
Only a few scratches on the crash bars..!!! Oh.. they came with the bike
@@mikekosar6135 thanks so much for sharing your experience bro!! I just ordered some crash bars… big lesson learned on trying to cheap out without them. Appreciate you brother 🤙😎
@ peace my brutha…✌️
Keep the shiny side up..!!⬆️
It happens, that's what stickers are for lol, at least your OK and had full gear, sometimes I'll keep going down the road until I find a cleaner u turn spot, on that turn I would have gone in straight, stopped, then a 3 point turn facing the bike in the right direction and gone from there ✌️🇺🇲
😂😂 yes good point! I’ve already got a few stickers so what’s a few more? Solid advice-I appreciate you!
My brother came over the other day and was commenting how my 2020 Road King didn't have a scratch on it. Not 15 minutes later I dropped a wrench while working on my windshield. I always covered it with a towel while working on it except this time. That little wrench took a little chip out of the top of the fender all the way to the metal. So pissed at myself. He jinxed me🤣
@@armadilllo oh man!! Yes he definitely jinxed you 😮💨😂 - that sucks!! Thank you for sharing your painful moment 😮💨
Yup I dropped my heavy Suzuki m109r twice in a row at my work's parking garage in the 1st 2 weeks of ownership and they got it on camera. I didnt have to do the drug test (as is policy) but was shown the action packed video back. Ego bruised, lesson learned as I was going slow, hit the front brakes and the wheel was not straight. Pick up the bike from the right side before dropping kick stand. Reaching for it I dropped it a 2nd time and broke right blinker lens.
I still keep a few badge of honor scratches as a reminder.
Your bike is beautiful btw. Im stealing your products to buff my bike!
@@louieavi aww man. That’s rough. And the video too! Well like you I
Know I’m learning from the experience! Getting some crash bars ASAP. The ego bruise hurts the most but it’s not a bad thing every now and then if it makes us better riders. Thanks my brother and I hope the scratches come out! The Nu Finish scratch doctor is good stuff!!
Things happen. You walked away from the crash and that’s all that matters. Laugh it off and call the insurance company. Let them deal with it. It’s not worth worrying about.
I'm sure it's easily done.
I've only been riding 40 years and definitely got close a few times.
Shades and tinted visors would be the best way to dump it.
@@theodavies8754 hmm can’t remember if I had the internal sunshade up or down? But yeah I’m sure that doesn’t help. I think this was combo of soft freshly graded dirt/gravel and me trying out some new heated gloves that may have caused to loss of firm throttle control.
@revfree running out of lock and traction needs luck.
Have a look at the clips where people lose it on gravel, they will almost always be wearing shades or tinted visor.
I picked a lad up off the road this summer, he tried to hide his shades under his lid.
I know how that feels and it sux. I was backing my 24 indian pursuit matte edition out of my garage, all gravel. I lost my footing and it fell over to left side. She does have the lower fairings and saddle bags, done little damagedto crash bars and saddle bags, but not very noticeable. Hell wasnt even barely moving. Within five minutes of just getting my Harley I dropped mine too . Wasn't an experienced rider though lol. Real nice bike though man 👍
@@MasterBetty545 it’s the worst feeling!! Thanks for sharing!! Keep on riding safe! 🤙
Some people don’t like crash bars because they dont look cool but they can sure save you some money.
You’re 100 percent right!! Man I wish I had them on when this happened. I held off purchasing some due to the cost (like $900 plus) but now I’ve got them on order!! Won’t make this mistake again. Appreciate you!
What the Hell, you're going down a road like that anyway ??????????
Actually a great question. I was out riding and took a turn onto a paved road I hadn’t been on before. To my surprise it turned to dirt within a few hundred feet. Not just any dirt: this was freshly graded, soft soft dirt with stones in it. To add to the perfect storm I was trying some new heated gloves that were messing with my ability to firmly control the throttle. I tried to turn around the first chance I saw to get back to pavement and the perfect storm was complete. Totally unplanned. Totally sucked! Ah well. Ride on!! 🤙😎
It sucks. I drop or lay mine down, usually about once every couple of years. Invest in a bung king crash bar and rear sliders. They'll save the tins and bars. And keep that heavy pig from crushing you.
@@FXFBS540 thanks so much for the advice! I’m ordering crash bars TODAY! I looked at Bung King but many people said they were a little lower than the OG Moto. OG Moto also does a first responder discount so I ordered their crash bars front and rear. Hopefully will turn out to be as good as the almighty Bung King 😎
@@FXFBS540 also thank you for sharing that you drop yours every once in a while. The biker community has been incredible with their support on this!
A couple of years ago, I was playing around on a mountain I ride all the time. Hit some loose gravel that wasn't there the day before and low sided my Fat Bob around 40mph. Crash bars did their job. Bike slid on the delrin sliders. Bars never touched the ground. I got minor road rash on knee, ground down half a footpeg, and a small scrap on my exhaust. Chased the bike down, got back on, and kept on getting it.
@ wow. That’s incredible!! Man I’m so glad you weren’t hurt and that you AND the bike “walked away.” That’s no joke. I wonder if the rear crash bars from OG Moto will act as sliders in a low side?
I checked out OG, they seem to offer aluminum and Delrin. Delrin will slide better on pavement, but those aluminum ones sure do look nice.

That sucks, been there. What I have learned on dirt/gravel roads is to avoid leaning too much on them, go slow, keep both feet down when slow turning, and minimize your time on them. Although, your legs may not help with a heavy bike.
