  • In this video I take apart my Bostar AXA quick change tool post. I was wondering if I can clock the handle to a different position and make it better than the way it came.

You could just shim the clamp with big rings.. The offset hole is on purpose, that's needed to make the whole thing work

Hi, you bet. I’d love to see your video. Where can I see it? I like the AXA size. A smaller version would be the OXO which is available from Little Machine Shop. To me, quick change tooling is something that I can’t be without now that I have had it. Thanks for the comment, and for watching my video. I appreciate you very much. Craig.

Could you add a thrust bearing under the handle, which would adjust the lock making it earlier. Add washers to add more, but thrust washer wld set the initial offset.

What about taking the handle off and drilling and tapping a new hole in the position that works best for you?

Hi Jay, yes, I have considered it but honestly it isn't that much of a problem. I'm nit picking here. The post works fine as is. Some say for the lathe I have, the OXO size post is a better option as it's a little smaller overall. I liked the AXA size wise and I felt it's footprint on the compound may add a little more rigidity. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest this post to anyone for the money. I could have spent $500 for the high end AXA brand but on my hobby sized Chinese lathe, I think this one will do just fine for my needs and has so far without issue. Hey, thanks for the comment!

How about removing a few thousands from the back face of the polished head?
