When talking about how the players were shells of their former selves, I misspoke and countered my own argument on accident! I said that the players from the first All-Stars were more mature versions of themselves and used that as a positive, but then at the same time I said the players from the second All-Stars were more mature versions of themselves and used that as a negative. I meant to say that the players on the first All-Stars were more dangerous, not more mature (although I'm sure some of them were), and I didn't catch that until just now. Just wanted to clarify that!
Even though you hated season 22, your videos talked about a lot of great moments. Like Kaysar's you all suck speech, Da'Vonne's first comp win, and Cody voting out Nicole.
They should not have casted Tyler on back to back seasons (not unlike Survivor's Malcolm Freburg where people couldn't really see much of his game) and the dude nearly quit for selfish reasons and Nicole F was another questionable choice. I thought BB19 and 21 were bad but All Stars 2 was literally everything bad about Modern Big Brother. The reason I don't consider Cody a top tier winner is simply because he was essentially handed the cheque. If it wasn't him it would have been Nicole.
Incredibly hot take: this season needed to be BOMBARDED with every twist they could think of to throw at it to try to shake up major alliances and keep anyone from dominating. A Coup d'Etat, a Diamond Veto, a double veto, multiple battle-backs, Pandora's Boxes, etc. If there was a season to throw "fairness" completely out the window this was it.
I think if this happened people would be upset but I think your right exspitly sense I'm pretty sure the point of all-stars is to celebrate the history of the show
Please never suggest big brother to bring back the coup d'état EVER AGAIN!!! The diamond veto, sure, battle backs, alright. Just never use that phrase again in reference to potential future bb twists… Thanks! :)
@@gs135790 Umm… Why you taking my comment so seriously? 💀 Was meant to be lighthearted since I’d assume you’re familiar with the atrocious events that transpired in the big brother house on the fateful day that the coup d'état had been used, lol. Let’s try to chill out a bit there, lmao.
BB22 has my least favorite moment ever shown on the live episode, which was Ian’s boot. Hearing Ian plead for his life in the game and how much he wanted to play, and then Tyler advertising Angela’s business and giving a pointless shoutout, only for Tyler to stay I think exemplifies all my problems with the season
And how people he genuinely considered his friends sat there laughing and belittling him, mocking his autism was one of the most disgusting, disheartening things I've ever seen on TV. At least we got the luxury of Nicole losing all of her brand deals over it though
@@whosthatpanda7935 fr, that shit was foul. and it cuts even deeper for me cause I’m also someone with aspergers and I’ve been *very* secretive about it my entire life, and when I saw the clips of memphis and christmas talking shit and nicole and dani laughing about it it really reaffirmed why I don’t tell most people
Agreed! And watching Christmas act as though she had actively won, instead of winning by default because Da’Vonne answered incorrectly, really burned my biscuits.
Once in a blue moon, I think about how Da'Vonne was so close to winning HoH (and only Christmas won because Da'Vonne made the wrong answer), and I hope there is some alternate universe out there where she did indeed become HoH...
I couldn’t stand the disrespect of Ian’s autism especially from Nicole F who was his “friend”. I was glad David got a chance at redemption after 21 but putting him on an all star season was crazy. Christmas and Bay were also odd choices of all stars. It was a pandemic like you said so I give them a slight pass but the choices just weren’t amazing and they got rid all the players that would have made good drama early
well i can see why bay was on because she brings drama and it was an interesting dynamic w her an tyler in the house considering how her vote cost him the win. maybe if they named the season “second chances” the casting choices would make more sense, but then most of the cast wouldnt even qualified
As soon as Keesha, Janelle, and Kaysar left, I was done with the season. It was too glaringly obvious how the season would go and I couldn’t stand Nicole F’s insecurity campaign to target the women (ie Janelle). It became unwatchable.
the reason why Nicole F has done so well in Big Brother is because no one wants to waste an HOH on her. Getting her out does nothing to whoever is HOH. And for some reason she is always stressed in the game.
Above probably any other player in Big Brother history, Nicole is all about getting all the other women evicted so she can be the last one standing, and its worked wonders for her in both BB18 and BB22 with her being the final woman in an endgame dominated by guys. It worked out for her amazing in BB18 due to Paul's epic mistake in evicting James over her, but it was good to see it blowing up in her face for this season at least.
It was doomed from that first poorly thought out challenge. The pegs were still moving so Cody knew which route to take. Which alllowed him to set up a power structure and steam roll the season
That and the first part where the women were given a longer path in the maze causing only 2 of them to advance. One of them being Christmas of all people
Someone had asked Janelle if this ruined her for a legends season and she had said “I thought that was what this was supposed to be”, and I felt the same. I was SO excited to see her, Kaysar, Keesha, Danielle, Da’Vonne, and Kevin. And then…
Once Cody won the first HOH it was all downhill. EVERY. SINGLE. EVICTION was the person at the bottom of the house going home, there was never any "big moves", it was predictable every single week.
This had been a problem pretty much since BB16 (the first “steamroll” season for many), but what really tanked BB22 is that even in the early weeks there was practically no opportunity for the non-Committee side to get any sort of power. If I remember correctly, Kaysar *almost* won HoH in Week 4, which ended up going to Enzo, who got Kaysar evicted that week. I think Kevin, Da’Vonne, and David were the only non-Committee members to even win a competition that entire season (and yes, I’m including David’s Disruptor power win). Had any of the other competitions (HoH or Veto) gone to a non-Committee player at any point early in the season, the trajectory could have been different.
@@crystalp7242 blame CBS for that, the way the twists are nowadays, it forces the creation of giant mega alliances of all the strong people in the house, like the battle of the block almost told you "create a giant alliance" because that was the only way to control who goes home
@@crystalp7242 Exactly! Even BB20 ended up dominated by Level 6, yet even Foutte (who were notoriously one of the worst alliances known for their incompetence) had power to shake the game up at times (and just miserably failed lol). Or in BB12 when the Brigade ended up steamrolling the season, we would still see Brenchel winning some comps in the beginning to keep things entertaining. Or in BB19, Jess and Cody were able to win comps and Paul and his minions faced the possibility of trouble. Or the Cookout in BB23, yes, they ended up steamrolling in the endgame, but not in the beginning, if I recall right. This season didn't even see opportunity for power shift or shakeup. It was was set for Cody to win from day 1, he never saw or faced any adversity or risk of going home. Some call it perfect gameplay, I call it boring.
@@crystalp7242 BB12 I would say was the first steamroll season, the Brigade formed week one and controlled the game the entire season, making up the F3. Even with Rachel winning two prejury HOHs, she was the original Nicole Franzel, targeting only women, resulting in Monet and Kristen going home. Heck, Britney, one of the most beloved Big Brother players goes home week 2 if she didn't win a crucial veto.
I feel like Tyler and Nicole ushered in this really cowardly style of gameplay where they just lie straight to your face for no real reason besides trying to appear like a nice guy. There were so many times they have all the votes and they still lie to the person and give them hope, for what? It's just weird and unnecessary. Not to mention creepy as a viewer to watch. If you're going to lie and it's part of some big strategy, you can give that credit. But lying because you're a people pleaser? Ew.
Survivor Game Changers was pretty disliked at the time it aired and while its still seen as pretty bad I don't see it always in the bottom 5 anymore and it's reputation has improved a bit. Survivor All-stars can defiantly be seen by some as a bottom 5 season because its just so dark.
@@0pacbig32 Survivor All-Stars was essentially "Watch all the favorites leave early, then watch Boston Rob play really well only to be beaten down in the finale."
The fact that we got Christmas and Nicole Franzel over Rachel, Vanessa, Danielle and Britney is proof that the casting team just needed a cast, not necessarily a good one lol
You don’t think they asked? Rachel and Vanessa were pregnant at the time, Britney and Danielle didn’t want to come back during the pandemic. While there are many issues with the season, the cast is not one of them, especially considering how they put it together in a global pandemic.
As I said in another comment, another contributing factor is that by this point MTV was inviting people from other reality competition shows to participate in The Challenge and while Kaycee and Josh and a handful of others may have been tapped to do BB AS2 and then tested positive for Covid, almost right after for or at the same time The Challenge was filming new seasons and airing the current season and a lot of the BB vets who were doing The Challenge were more interested in that than returning to BB. As well, I can’t say for sure cuz I don’t really know the legalities, but considering that Paramount owns both brands I believe it would cause an issue to have the same player being featured on both shows at the same time.
@@iconique08exactly. All of them were asked. Danielle actually initially said yes then pulled out at the last minute not wanting to risk her job. Jun was also asked but refused to leave her son during covid 19. Ivette from BB6 was also initially cast but pulled out before sequester. They tried to get a lot of people and many of them said no
It's hard to cast an All-Stars season in general because most former players got married and had kids, so they don't want to spend 90-100 days away from their families. Derrick, Will, and Dan have all said as much. Derrick in particular regrets missing the big moments his daughter went through during season 16. Compare to Survivor which is a much shorter process for the players, being most likely less than 2 months total, from pre-season to the flight home. Winners at War worked because the players best suited to play could make the commitment to leave their lives behind for 2 months compared to 3+.
One of the other issues I found was when Tyler decided he finally wanted to play and go against the committee it was way too late. Had he done it weeks before he could’ve easily made an alliance with Kaysar and Jenelle before they were evicted. Would it have worked? Maybe not. But it would’ve made for better tv that’s for sure. Depending on Enzo to go against Cody and vote out Dani was never going to work.
I remember watching him on the feeds when he was HOH week 3 saying he wanted to work with Janelle and Kaysar, but felt like he couldn't. Had he kept them off the block and broke off from the Committee, that could have very well saved the season.
5 months late, but as someone who just watched both seasons, I feel BB19 is far better than BB22. They are the 2 worst seasons, but BB19 at least had fights, blindsides of Matt (at the veto meeting), Jason, and Kevin, and the fun jury segments. BB22 was a very boring streamroll with only a strong finale episode as the single upside@@olivermensinger6022
I'm definitely convinced by your argument for Josh and Kaycee for one specific reason. It already almost happened without them. Pre-week 5, it actually looked like we might've gotten a cold war between Tyler and Cody. So with the extra shake-ups, I fully believe the house would've split and things would've been a lot better
I feel like a small detail to point out is also that they never did an Allstars around season 14-15 which wouldve realistically made sense w the show. They couldve given players from that era a fair chance instead of waiting until they were wayyy past their seasons and are no longer even similar to the players they were. This wouldve also helped narrow down the cast of BB22 so they could cast more modern players. This allstars was weird to me bc it felt like an odd combination of old vs new bb players
Agreed! Every 7th season should have been an All-Stars season. BB 14 should have been houseguests from 8-13. BB 21, HG's from 15-20, and so on. BB 13 would have been better as it would have been all newbie season.
BB13/BB14/BB15 should have been an all-star season considering how we got returning considering how there were some of the most iconic players who came back in bb13 and bb14. Imagine a all star with Rachel, Britney, Dan, Keesha, Danielle when she had black hair, Jeff, Jen from bb8, etc. It would have been one hell of a season
Well part of the issue is they brought back 10 past players in BB13 - 14. They kinda did a partial All Stars. They weren't comfortable with doing it for a full cast for whatever reason.
One thing to note is that the casting department did *try* to get bigger names. But *many* declined or were unavailable, not just Josh and Kaycee. I believe Dan, Danielle Reyes, Derrick and Paul were all contacted but declined, and Vanessa and Rachel Reilly were pregnant. That's basically half the desired cast they wanted not showing up but they went ahead anyway, and I think most people would prefer a season over no season. But really we should hope those 8 all go on a better, shorter "Legends" season or something lol
Even with that they still could've contacted players like Evel Dick (bb8), Sheila (bb9), Renny (bb10), Hayden or Lane (bb12), Kalia or Porsche (bb13), Andy or Elissa (bb15), Donny (bb16), Johnny Mac or James (bb17), Victor (bb18), Jessica or Cody (bb19), Brett (bb20), or Tommy (bb21). They had tons of options to cast players that were either big characters or big players that could've really shaken up the game and yet they still decided to choose duds like David and Christmas or bland runner-ups in Memphis and Cody.
What we NEED is an all winners season!! Josh, Kaycee, Rachel, Xavier... Jun also said recently she is finally willing to play again. THAT is what we need!! Even if it's a shorter season (like this winter if TV is still behind due to the strikes??).
I think Ethanimale has done a video about a hypothetical All-Winners season, and as it stands now, I don’t think a full-length All-Winners season is likely (and I think Ethanimale said as much). I’d be much more interested in a Second Chances season, actually, with early evictees and players infamously screwed over in their first season. (And I think David would have made a much better fit for a Second Chances season than an All-Stars season.) Edit: I found the link to Ethanimale’s speculation about whether a hypothetical all-winners season would happen. This was made during the off-season between BB23 and BB24, but I think his commentary would still stand. Here’s the link: th-cam.com/video/bwOjQ3U9DBo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s0BJmABQs4j5Q6lF
Big brother: if you want to keep your franchise going, cast new people every year, and limit the twists and let the personalities play out. That’s what made big brother great in the beginning.
I think another reason this season failed was the fact we were missing true characters. I loved what Chicken George, Howie, and and Marcellas brought to the game. We needed people on BB22 who would destroy the house if they were crossed, it would help people at least notice the big alliance in control of the game. I needed Bret, I needed Zach, I needed Kaitlyn, I needed Josh. I want in my Big Brother people who are ready to play an active game and not lie down and take it like most people in Modern Big Brother do. I haven’t watched this show since BB20 because I feel most people aren’t active enough to stop majority alliances which just killed my love for the show. That and the ridiculous twist that just break the game.
To this day all stars 2 is the most disappointing thing I’ve ever had to go through, growing up all stars 1 was my favorite season, and finally getting another one had me SO excited. But now when I think of this season, I think of 15 fallen legacies and Enzo
weird that people always leave out the biggest reason, that it was happening during a pandemic and almost no one was in the right mindset to be playing a game like that. they’d all forgotten how to socialize with people and they all had loved ones they were nervous about.
I remember the rollout from BB22. People were complaining from Day 1 about this season, a reaction that initially annoyed me. Why? Because we get this reaction...EVERY! SINGLE! SEASON! And don't get me wrong, sometimes it's warranted. Like in BB21, with how the pre-jury played out with all the bullying and the nominations having a lean towards targeting the non-Caucasian players. We still got a great jury phase out of it, but I understood the backlash then. But when it happens everytime we get a new Big Brother season, it gets old, and it strikes me as the fans never being pleased with what they get. So I actually went out of my way to defend the season online as not being that bad, especially since I assumed things would turn around gameplay and entertainment-wise... But the longer the season went on, the more I realized how much of a pipe dream that was and that for once, the fanbase was completely right. Maybe by accident since this negative reception did in fact happen all the time back then, but like a broken clock, their instincts proved correct this time and that disappointed me so greatly. Not for the fan reactions, not for myself being wrong (I'm only human), but because Big Brother's most anticipated season ended up being its worst. What a waste.
"Worst season ever" is a common claim about the new Big Brother season every single year. Every once in a while, such as BB22 or BB19 though the fanbase is entirely spot on when they are saying that!
If Da'Vonne had won the week 5 HOH, the season plays out so much differently, as we probably see Slick Six + Nicole dominate instead of Committee + Enzo.
Another thing about All Stars 2 that makes it so difficult to watch is that throughout the entire season, there is an overwhelming sense of "History Repeating Itself." We expect these players to learn and grow from their previous seasons, and hopefully right what they did wrong in the past, but this season just showed us personal conflicts that we've already from them in the past. Think about it: - We see Memphis is still uncomfortable with playing with Keesha - Ian is still outcasted and isn't able to develop strong game relationships. - Tyler is still an emotional player who isn't able to make the cutthroat game moves he needs to make. - Nicole A. is still ignored by certain houseguests, and is unfairly seen as untrustworthy. - Da'vonne is still a messy player who reveals too much information prematurely. - Nicole F. still firmly avoids confrontations and taking responsibility for her actions in the game. She is also STILL able to play a very easy and passive game and make deep runs in the game, despite previously winning. - JANELLOUSY IS REAL!!! - Christmas still has the personality of an unhinged twist villain. - Kaysar is still an aggressive player who is prone to turning players against each other very early in the game, making himself an easy target. - Cody, despite winning flawlessly, still has plenty of BB fans question how strategic he is and how well he can adapt to changing house dynamics. - Enzo still puts himself in positions where he has plenty of options early on, but quickly loses agency in the game when his allies keep winning power. -David still doesn't prepare for the game until he's already in the house. - People still viewed Bayleigh as "the angry and irrational black woman" who will blow up when she doesn't get her way. - Dani still sketches her allies out by playing both sides of the house. We see a majority of the people this season lose the game in a similar way they played the first time, and some people, like Da'vonne, even lost because of the same people they lost to in their old seasons. Just seeing history repeating itself all season just gave an overwhelming sense that people just never learn. It was so depressing.
My (least) favorite fun fact is that the first week of this season where no POCs touched the block was also the first week there were none left, what a wacky coincidence
Nice video! I think the fact that everyone had just been shaken up by the pandemic only 3-4 months earlier also affected how they acted in the house. I think it was a heavy time in general and some people just weren't feeling as confident or enthusiastic with the uncertain prospects of the future looming over them. And not knowing how things were going in the outside world was probably more challenging and anxiety-inducing than ever, especially for anyone who knew someone who was more vulnerable/immunocompromised.
Here's my theory: Cody's insecurity of collectively not being liked by the superfan community is what drove the season's boot list. Think about it: Keesha, Nicole A., Janelle+Kaysar were all former America's favorite players and Bayleigh, Da'Vonne, and Ian are collectively loved as well. Nicole F. and Tyler are known to be villains and the remaining members of "The Committee" are generally either not-liked or indifferent (minus Dani, but I believe Cody backstabbed her because she was beloved preseason too). My opinion? This was intentional on Cody's part. Not only did he target fan favorites on Big Brother, but he also targeted Rachel on The Traitors and Taylor on Reindeer games (both beloved winners) There's a common denominator, folks. Actions speak louder than words.
i also think it taking place during 2020 also made an impact on the overall game - it was a quiet time, so it felt quiet in the house. also was weird because getting evicted didn't mean returning to the 'real' world, just a global version of being stuck in a house
This didnt feel like All Stars, but it was giving some stars tbh. Seeing who originally was planned for the cast like Kaycee, Josh, and even Paul even Amber B. & Danielle R. Was on the cast at some point we couldve gotten some heavy hitters which was rough. Hopefully we can see some of the people maybe on a Legends or All Winners Season
There’s not a doubt in my mind that Danielle R would’ve came to PLAY… which is exactly why she’d probably be target #1 for The Committee right from the jump. Probably would’ve made me hate the season even more if that’s possible.
There was also rumors that Kevin was a last replacement too. I remember TMZ was reporting Hayden BB12 was there in Los Angeles. I remember the first night of feeds Janelle was telling Enzo she thought Hayden was coming in.
They should have brought Rachel or even Britney. People who have entertainment and that would automatically be grouped within the “old school”. There were like 14 people who were from the last 4-7 seasons and like 2-4 from the actual OG seasons.
Rachel was pregnant at the time, and I’m pretty sure Britney declined. It would’ve been amazing to see them though, they’re 2 of the people that come to mind when you think about big brother!
Didn’t help that kaysar and Janelle were trying to work with Nicole (not franzel) Ian, Kevin and Da’Vonne but all of them thought they were getting played so didn’t trust them 🙄
I don’t think Tyler would have been able to work with Baleigh if they had Kaycee and Josh in the house instead. There is too much bad blood between the 2 of them and Baleigh still brags to this day about how she poisoned the jury against Tyler. Now some may say Kaycee deserved to win, but it doesn’t change the fact that Baleigh convinced Fessy, Rockstar, Scotty and Sam to make a pact to vote for whoever is sitting next to Tyler in F2. Haleigh was against the plan and voted for who she thought deserved to win and voted for Tyler.
Wow! I didn't know about Josh and Kaycee! That would have been a completely different game! Especially as they are both super strong players & comp winners. While COVID is the reason we got All Stars 2, it also is the reason a lot of bigger players have said they turned the season down (plus Rachel was pregnant). So we lost a lot of the biggest personalities that are willing to go against major alliances AND are able to win comps.
I think the season is even worse considering how excellent Survivor Winners at War was just earlier that year. In 2020 we needed entertainment to keep us happy, and AS2 did anything but that. My highlight of the season? Kaysar's speech, because I agree with everything he said. Also Daniel doing the same speech 2 seasons later is NOT the same lol.
Eh BB19 was infuriating and you hated everyone, but at least it wasn’t really “boring” in my opinion like BB22. I’d rather an infuriating season of unlikeable people than a straight up snooze fest personally.
I believe that if they hadn’t not done this season during Covid and waited instead of rushing to get a season together it would’ve great but they rushed
Ethan you nailed it for me! This season just sucks in every aspect, and there's no substance to it whatsoever. The first All-Stars just hits so hard and people were actually competing against each other rather than forming a large alliance in the beginning and just evicting everyone outside of it. David was one of my favorite players from that season, and leaves more of a positive impact on me than anyone who surpassed his placement if I'm being honest.
David is one of the worst big brother players in history, how did he leave an impact on you? Really nice guy would love to hang out with him but he was absolutely horrendous at the game in every single way.
@@jaredsilvers2782that just means the season was full of trash then, boring, uneventful, planned out for Cody to win. Garbage season with or without David.
As someone who started watching BB during season 18 and hadn’t watched any of the earlier seasons prior, this was probably the worst season I had seen of the show ever, and I watched BB19 and BB21 live 💀
I remember looking at my mom after the premiere and said “Cody is gonna win” and I was right. It already felt like it was HEAVILY favored for Cody. Nothing but respect for Derrick, but it felt like BB production definitely had a thing for him and wanted to give his best friend a win too lol. I gave up after Janelle & Kaysar left because I saw no end to this domination.
I don’t think Dani was that different tbh I just think she played a different style game. She was in the power alliance this time & not on the bottom & I believe she’s at her best with her back against the wall. We saw a bit of the fire in her triple eviction edit & we would’ve seen more if it was a regular eviction week. The committee is to blame tbh, she just needed a different house dynamic but she was still entertaining & messy
Danielle in Season 13 put herself in an incredibly bad position by defecting from the veterans alliance, but from there played it incredibly well and set up the entire game to result in a newbie victory, but Pandora's box ruined it. I think this time around she didn't want to make an early statement like she did, so she stuck with the power structure of the house, rather than shake the house as the villain.
This was the season that took me out of Big Brother for 2 years. This season was so bad, I skipped 23 and 24, and only felt the itch to come back this year with 25. This season burned me bad.
all stars 2 was severely disappointing to me. david did not belong there and all of the legends werent willing to step away from their lives to play again. just imagine no memphis, david, bayleigh, nicole and we got paul, dan, derrick, vannessa it would have been amazing
The worst thing is that, the horrbile season clouds how good Codys game was. Cody had arguably a top 3 winning game ever, but because of how utterly atrocious the game ended up playing out, people either downplay or ignore his game
reality shows fail at returnee seasons because they focus too much on recency bias and settling for just the people that say yes and not waiting for a great cast
Seriously doubt the lack of Freaking Kaycee impacted the season for the negative. I’d rather get 5 minutes of Kesha than 3 months of Kaycee. Sorry bout it ,
I think another thing that made most people not like it is simply that their favorites were not in the big dominant alliance. If Kayser, Kesha and Janelle were in a dominant spot and ran the entire game instead of getting eliminated quickly, I think a lot of the people who hated this season would move it up their rankings quite a bit. Not that its a good season, but I do think its hated on more than it should be... feels more like a season that should be around 15th-20th to me.
Players like Kaysar, Janelle and Keesha wouldn't have resorted to such a boring, easy strategy though. They play to fight hard and win, which is the biggest difference between them and, say, players like Cody/Christmas/Nicole F who played incredibly wimpy games through sticking to a big alliance in their previous seasons.
Im going to stop you right there. Josh is by far the worst winner to ever player big brother. He was pathetic, weak, and absolutely undeserving to win. The best way to describe Josh's gameplay was a mix between Victoria from season 16 and Phillip Shepard from Survivor Redemption Island. Fucking Jodi from BB14 played a better game than Josh. The fact thay Josh was considered for an All Stars season confrims they were scrapping the bottom of the barrel. If Josh ever comes back for a single day of Big Brother, I'm not watching that season, unless Cody is brought back to bully Josh for all his victim noises until he quits.
It was a weird time in the world.....obviously. and not to break the fourth wall, but it was pretty clear MOST of the cast just wasn't in to it.....they knew they were getting a check either way, so when it was their time to go, they just kinda accepted it.
I think this should’ve been a Second Chances-esque season with the main theme being redemption instead of the second All Stars, and I think that might’ve been the initial plan. If we look at the roster, about half of the cast fits that theming; Cody, the Wu of Big Brother who was regarded to have made the worst decision in the show’s history. Christmas who had to play her original season with a broken foot. David, who was a day 1 evictee yet was able to show promise in the game thanks to a vad twist. Nicole Anthony who was heavily ostracized her season for no reason and had to play from the bottom the entire time. Tyler, one of the best players of the modern era who makes an impressive run to the end only to lose by one vote. Another third of the cast can fit the theme as well, though maybe not as neatly but well enough for it to slide. Both Memphis and Enzo are losing finalists and both Keesha and Kevin are third placers who had a decent shot to win. Kaysar has that storyline of never reaching jury, that could fit him into that redemption theme and Janelle herself is someone who’s twice just barely lost out at the end. Even the two winners that made the cast, Ian and Nicole Franzel, kinda fit into the redemption theme as both their wins were heavily debated within the fandom, some having the (incorrect) opinion that their opponent should’ve won over them. Though obviously they’d be the hardest to justify due to, y’kno, having won the game. The only ones who don’t really fit the theme are Da’Vonne, Danielle and Bayleigh (tho honestly I don’t remember exactly how she went out in her original season) but it doesn’t have to be a flawless cast, you just have to sell the narrative. I feel like expectations would’ve been a lot lower had the season not used the All Stars moniker since it has such gravitas in the fandom so maybe we wouldn’t have hyped it up in our heads so much just to be disappointed. It still would’ve been a shit season but maybe we would’ve been more apathetic about it. Would’ve been just another crappy season of modern BB instead of such a massive letdown, throw it in the garbage pile with BB19 and BB21.
This was by far the most disappointing season ever. It was such a snoozefest. I couldn’t stand Nicole F. She irritated me so much and thankfully Cody evicted her before the final 2, and that alone made me satisfied that he won
bbAS2 was the first season I ever saw airing live and I didn't know what to expect. Now that I've also seen 23, 24 and 25, now i know what made it so bad. thx ethanimale you're awesome
I personally think that part of the problem was that bbus casting suckd for a long time, and all the good casting choices were a long time ago. This is why i feel if bbcan did an all star season (which id only care abt if they brought back feeds), than it would probably be a banger, as bbcan seasons are shorter, and lots of the legends and fan favs for bbcan (like kevin, anthony, and victoria) have all been very active, and would all love to play again. This is also why i think winners at war and australian survivor heroes vs villains were succesful
it’s the fact All Stars 1 is a top 3 season, and All Stars 2 is a bottom 3 season. In my opinion this season has no redeemable qualities. The cast would be superb if the gameplay wasn’t boring as all hell. In my opinion it is the worst BBUS season (outside of 1). At least the likes of BB19 had a stellar ending with Josh beating out Paul, but BB22 literally has nothing.
This season was probably the most boring season BB has ever had. It’s too bad because I remember the hype up for this season and I was pretty pumped for it
So I wondered if you were going to mention this, and wonder if it's wise to bring up... but what rubbed me the wrong way about BB22 was the racial dynamics. The alliance of seven white people formed--without intentional malice, just the implicit bias that white people tend to relate to other white people. It seemed very stark in the way it played out, that players like Da'Vonne talked about the uphill battle of black players on Big Brother and similar shows, and yet the plan of the alliance kept moving on. I am white, so this isn't my personal battle, but it was one of the reasons the show was uncomfortable to watch, and entirely uninteresting after it was clear the committee was going to finish off the game.
I have a couple more points to add . The George Floyd protests were still fairly relevant at the time when the season started so not the best timing. Also the fact the last season was Big Brother 21 where there was really poor treatment of the POC on that season.
As a Survivor fan in addition to All-Stars, I was coming off of Winners at War and in both seasons, I was reminded time and time again that old players can never return in their respective competitions again.
Now that we're a few years removed from BB22, it's moved to my least favorite season. While some other seasons had worse casts (BB21, BB19, BB15), they at least me feel something had some sort of intrigue. BB22 has 0 redeeming qualities. The only mildly interesting things that happened was Da'Vonne winning the veto and Nicole getting cut at F3. There were no power shifts, or blindsides, or alliance crumbles. It's the only season I stopped watching because I knew what would happen the second we knew who was HOH.
For me the problem with allstars is the fact that nobody was playing an allstar game, i feel like we had so many players who should've had something to prove (Christmas/Nicole/Dani/Enzo, i would add Cody but he won so.....) and just didn't really provide. I feel like they had so many moments to change the outcome of the season and jusy didn't. Ofc you could probably say the same for players who were in the minority but they weren't really winning any comps
It also didn’t help that Josh and Casey and many of the other potential big name players who could have made the season awesome started getting booked for MTVs The Challenge and basically they now have no desire to go back to Big Brother.
I think a big issue was the "all stars" type players from the seasons after the first all stars had a different personality and play-style. Tyler, Nicole F., Cody, etc. they all play like cowards. They just lie endlessly for no strategic purpose other than presenting themselves as nice players for as long as possible. There is nothing exciting or confrontational about it. There is no risks being taken. It felt like they didn't even care they were making a tv show.
I was actually planning on watching bb22 as my first bb season but I ended up missing the first few episodes and just decided to catch the next season. Man am I glad I decided to do that
I'd love to see either season 26 or 27 be an all winners season just imagine brainiacs Ian and Steve go head to head or social players like Dan and Derik going head to head or comp beast Cody and Xavior going head to head
Lol this is just like RuPauls Drag Race all-stars, however at this point they’re just having AS just to have AS, it’s not star contestants just seems like second (even 3rd) chance. Not much of them are STARS
Enzo was the only highlight of this season. Any time he wasn’t on the screen, I was super bored and didn’t want to watch. I love a lot of the players on the cast but it was SO boring
POV this season was only one of the worst seasons because people thought AS2 would live up to All Stars, and people completely ignored how all the seasons were around AS2. They just expected Season 7 without wanting to come to terms how Big Brother is actually played nowadays.
I’m glad they brought back David and Christmas because David didn’t even get to play because of Michie being racist. And Christmas had to miss a bunch of the game because of an injury.
I agree that while a lot of the player made sense to have in all stars without the BIG NAMES it felt incomplete. Only having 2 winners felt weird too, though I get a lot of winners don’t want to come back… they also probably weren’t asked. Josh and Kaycee testing positive sucked. Also, not sucked, but it was unfortunate timing that Vanessa, Rachel Reilly, and Jessica were all pregnant and therefore couldn’t be on the season.
If they do something like all stars again, I think something like what survivor is doing would work better, where they just take players from recent seasons, say 20-25, and only use them. Ik not seeing some old players would suck, and if you want that, maybe do what the challenge is doing with all stars and take all the old players and out them on a exclusive season like celebrity BB in the winter and make it only available on paramount plus or only streaming services
To be fair, regarding the David thing, Chicken George was the same way. He hadn't played the modernized US BB, just the original Netherlands version format still used in most other countries. I think it worked. He was just more frustrating than Chicken George because George wasn't clueless like David, just a goofy old dad.
The Amazing Race 32 also had a comittee-like alliance.
Even though you hated season 22, your videos talked about a lot of great moments. Like Kaysar's you all suck speech, Da'Vonne's first comp win, and Cody voting out Nicole.
David should have been replaced with Jerry bb10, Victor should have returned, Johnny Mac, Vanessa, come on Julie
It was incredulous to me that he came back.
I think if this happened people would be upset but I think your right exspitly sense I'm pretty sure the point of all-stars is to celebrate the history of the show
Great take
Please never suggest big brother to bring back the coup d'état EVER AGAIN!!!
The diamond veto, sure, battle backs, alright.
Just never use that phrase again in reference to potential future bb twists…
Thanks! :)

Let’s try to chill out a bit there, lmao.
BB22 has my least favorite moment ever shown on the live episode, which was Ian’s boot. Hearing Ian plead for his life in the game and how much he wanted to play, and then Tyler advertising Angela’s business and giving a pointless shoutout, only for Tyler to stay I think exemplifies all my problems with the season
only for them to call off their engagement 💀
And they made fun of Ian’s rocking, after he told them he was autistic. Genuinely gross
Tyle really got more and more hate on a yearly basis. This guy is just bruh.. @@thevenomoth3455
And how people he genuinely considered his friends sat there laughing and belittling him, mocking his autism was one of the most disgusting, disheartening things I've ever seen on TV. At least we got the luxury of Nicole losing all of her brand deals over it though
@@whosthatpanda7935 fr, that shit was foul. and it cuts even deeper for me cause I’m also someone with aspergers and I’ve been *very* secretive about it my entire life, and when I saw the clips of memphis and christmas talking shit and nicole and dani laughing about it it really reaffirmed why I don’t tell most people
Watching Janelle, Kaysar, and Da'Vonne get second place in back-to-back HoH comps really screwed up the rest of the season for us, so hard to watch.
The theme of BB22, like the theme of the entire 2020 year, was “Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”
Bo1 else talks about when Tyler beat Janelle but pretty sure he should have been died and she won. Need 2 rewatch but remember there was something
@@stargazer_stacey7415I remember the moment Christmas was announced the winner of that HOH I turned off my TV out of anger lol.
@@ladysnowsu10 alot of the cast would be my selection for all stars and another part would be better selections for a second chance season
Bay giving the “three guys & three tries” to Nicole F was spicy 😂🎉
As soon as Keesha, Janelle, and Kaysar left, I was done with the season. It was too glaringly obvious how the season would go and I couldn’t stand Nicole F’s insecurity campaign to target the women (ie Janelle). It became unwatchable.
Same
Me too! I hated the way she did Ian too
Same. I didn’t watch an episode after week 3.
the reason why Nicole F has done so well in Big Brother is because no one wants to waste an HOH on her.
I remember being so pissed he won't that!!! How different the week would of been if someone else got that lucky!! I blame big brother lol
Not to mention the pre-games lol
That and the first part where the women were given a longer path in the maze causing only 2 of them to advance. One of them being Christmas of all people
All Stars 2 was Cody’s consolation prize. It’s that simple
I said the same exact thing
Ew.
It's just shocking that an All-Star season is probably a bottom-5 season. Way to drop the ball production.
It’s Bottom 2 for sure; only BB19 is arguably worse.
@@xCLP18agreed
Survivor Game Changers was pretty disliked at the time it aired and while its still seen as pretty bad I don't see it always in the bottom 5 anymore and it's reputation has improved a bit. Survivor All-stars can defiantly be seen by some as a bottom 5 season because its just so dark.
@@xCLP18 Nah, that's being too cruel to BB19, BB15 I'd say should take its place.

I thought Josh had COVID-19? 🤔 So he couldn't do All-Stars 2.
@@teamsteed1 Correct. That was Ethanimale's point. That Kaycee and Josh NOT being on the season was a factor contributing to the boringness

This ‘committee’ alliance was ridiculous and made it so boring. I think it was unfair for everyone to pre-game this much
I feel like a small detail to point out is also that they never did an Allstars around season 14-15 which wouldve realistically made sense w the show.

Exactly! Season 15 could've been all-stars. If, hypothetically, seasons 11, 13 and 14 didn't have any returning players, this could've been the all-star cast for season 15:
-Evel Dick (8)
-Daniele (8)
-Sheila (9)
-Dan (10)
-Keesha (10)
-Renny (10)
-Jordan (11)
-Kevin (11)

-Britney (12)
-Brendan (12)
-Rachel (12)
-Kalia (13)
-Shelley (13)
-Ian (14)
-Frank (14)
Another season where the most annoying and underwhelming characters ban together to take out everyone we actually wanna see play the game
I think you mean Jessica Nickson. She was pregnant
@@lesliejamieson4521Rachel was also pregnant and even wanted to compete after it got clear CBS was running low on “all star” options.

(And I think David would have made a much better fit for a Second Chances season than an All-Stars season.)
Edit: I found the link to Ethanimale’s speculation about whether a hypothetical all-winners season would happen.

%100 right
I think another reason this season failed was the fact we were missing true characters.
No we needed just 3 ppl to break a house. And that’s Dan, Paul, and Vanessa
So this is the excuse? Doesnt change the boring trajectory...
I wanted Kaysar to finally make it to jury for once, but instead the house was scared of him from the start & voted him out
Legend has it that David has yet to figure out who used the disruptor power on him
If Da'Vonne had won the week 5 HOH, the season plays out so much differently, as we probably see Slick Six + Nicole dominate instead of Committee + Enzo.
Think about it:
- We see Memphis is still uncomfortable with playing with Keesha
- Ian is still outcasted and isn't able to develop strong game relationships.
AS2 realistically should’ve happened around BB14 or 15, now that cast would’ve been amazing.
all those vets hardcore pre-gaming and still the best alliance name they could come up with is "the committee"
Not only did he target fan favorites on Big Brother, but he also targeted Rachel on The Traitors and Taylor on Reindeer games (both beloved winners)
There's a common denominator, folks. Actions speak louder than words.
wait you kinda spilled here...
Did he win the Traitors?
@@W81Researcher Derrick wasn't there or pregamed for him, so no.
This season REALLY needed a big twist. I think an all-stars season is a time where some manipulation from the producers is justified.
i also think it taking place during 2020 also made an impact on the overall game - it was a quiet time, so it felt quiet in the house. also was weird because getting evicted didn't mean returning to the 'real' world, just a global version of being stuck in a house
But Josh didn't play in Big Brother All-Stars 2 because he had COVID-19.
Kaycee is not a strong player.
and she is such a boring character
@@LovelyLori78 Kaycee is really good in competitions.
This was the first full season I kept up with and I was wondering why didn’t they just add a twist instead of letting the big alliance just steamroll
If only Davonne didn’t screw up the last round on that 5th HOH comp…
BB19 is worse, for me, but BB22 is right there with it. This season was SUCH a letdown.
And coming off the heels of BB24. What a disgrace.
At least BB19 had Josh and Cody as entertainment.
Eh BB19 was infuriating and you hated everyone, but at least it wasn’t really “boring” in my opinion like BB22. I’d rather an infuriating season of unlikeable people than a straight up snooze fest personally.
To elaborate further, dopey high pitched Matt and miss MENSA with her GPA in dance made the season already more entertaining than BB22 ever was.
@@Wraiven22I don’t like ugly drama. Ugly drama and toxicity aren’t fun to watch.
Christmas is definitely not all-star worthy, second chance worthy yes, but not an all-star, she is the Amber Brkich of Big Brother.
@@jaredsilvers2782 Exactly dude seems like a great fella but his gameplay was absolute 💩
Honestly it isn’t an All Stars season without Vanessa Rousso
the very idea of trying to pump out an allstars season during a pandemic was their first mistake
I legit see Kaycee doing really well in any BB season, i bet she could go into any season and still make top 3
It stopped being All-Stars when Kayser left after that it became the committee and everyone in that alliance other than Cody was playing for 2nd
This was the season that took me out of Big Brother for 2 years. This season was so bad, I skipped 23 and 24, and only felt the itch to come back this year with 25. This season burned me bad.
23 is quite good but predictable and 24 is a top 5 season easily
all stars 2 was severely disappointing to me. david did not belong there and all of the legends werent willing to step away from their lives to play again. just imagine no memphis, david, bayleigh, nicole and we got paul, dan, derrick, vannessa it would have been amazing
The worst thing is that, the horrbile season clouds how good Codys game was. Cody had arguably a top 3 winning game ever, but because of how utterly atrocious the game ended up playing out, people either downplay or ignore his game
Only thing all stars 2 gave me was that epic moment where Cody didn’t take Nicole F 😂😂😂
So basically Memphis singlehandedly ruined All Stars 2!
you just cant have a BB All star season without Chicken George
I wish America's Player Eric got a second chance
reality shows fail at returnee seasons because they focus too much on recency bias and settling for just the people that say yes and not waiting for a great cast
I understand that pregaming and preexisting relationships are gonna happen, but it’s undeniable that it made the season boring and predictable.
@@um773Thank you for proving my point.
If Josh ever comes back for a single day of Big Brother, I'm not watching that season, unless Cody is brought back to bully Josh for all his victim noises until he quits.
fr like Josh is THE if not one of the worst winners
It was a weird time in the world.....obviously. and not to break the fourth wall, but it was pretty clear MOST of the cast just wasn't in to it.....they knew they were getting a check either way, so when it was their time to go, they just kinda accepted it.
I think this should’ve been a Second Chances-esque season with the main theme being redemption instead of the second All Stars, and I think that might’ve been the initial plan. If we look at the roster, about half of the cast fits that theming;
Cody, the Wu of Big Brother who was regarded to have made the worst decision in the show’s history.
Would’ve been just another crappy season of modern BB instead of such a massive letdown, throw it in the garbage pile with BB19 and BB21.
all i remember about this season was enzo’s bidet
This was by far the most disappointing season ever. It was such a snoozefest. I couldn’t stand Nicole F. She irritated me so much and thankfully Cody evicted her before the final 2, and that alone made me satisfied that he won
Dan was meant to be on this season I heard, but he declined for unknown reasons
Kaysars eviction or veto speech held true for the rest of the season.
bbAS2 was the first season I ever saw airing live and I didn't know what to expect.
It should have been called Second Chances with no winners.
@@Hahsggsg yes she's won before but she always gets discredited and I feel like she has more she could've shown us but didn't.
Is I remember correctly, Rachel Reilly had been asked to joined All Stars 2, but supposedly couldn't partake due to her second pregnancy.
Well you’re out of luck…kind of
Lol this is just like RuPauls Drag Race all-stars, however at this point they’re just having AS just to have AS, it’s not star contestants just seems like second (even 3rd) chance.
David was so bad tho, at least Christmas played the game unlike David, 0 comp wins and just a bad player overall
I was SO EXCITED for All stars 2 in the pre-season and now I wish the season had never happened.
I hope season 30 is second chance but like in Survivor, people vote for who they want inside the house!
Like if you don’t get Dan, Will or Derrick I feel like Vanessa is the next person demanded to return (maybe Tyler was too)
You know it’s bad when this is a worse All Star season than Survivor Game Changers which had Varner smh
The best thing to come from that season was DaVonne winning AFP! 😭
Because of this season I stopped watching Big Brother for 2 years. I have now since started watching it again
The season should have been like a second place second shot then after covid all-stars 2 with the better cast
To be fair, regarding the David thing, Chicken George was the same way. He hadn't played the modernized US BB, just the original Netherlands version format still used in most other countries. I think it worked. He was just more frustrating than Chicken George because George wasn't clueless like David, just a goofy old dad.
