So is literally any other plant. Many plants don’t even have any puns for names and simply share the same name as their origin plant. Examples like Sunflower, wallnut, garlic, Jalapeño, Snow Pea, Squash, Lily Pad, Starfruit

To be fair, that's just game balance in general.
Not saying that Peanut isn't poorly balanced, but generally if things have stats in a type of strategy game, there are only so many variables you can add or adjust before they just become the same.
Generally, a character class who can do both of something isn't going to do it as well as a class that specialize in something.

I found it funny how he mentions that peanut was supposed to be a counter to jester zombie, but it's actually probably one of the worst options because peanut just gives him more projectiles to deflect and only delays the inevitable instead of dealing damage (wow, almost like there are better wall plant options in that scenario?). Endurian is a much more effective counter since his attack is not projectile based meaning he can counter jester zombie pretty well. As long as the attacking plants behind it are laser bean or fume shroom, or something else jester can't deflect.

I actually quite like the concept of this kind of mixed plant, it's a cool design concept and makes for an interesting challenge where you want to make sure it's not strictly better than its derivative plants, but also want it to be good enough to actually be useful as a slot merger. The shotgun idea sounds excellent, and encourages it to be used where you'd normally have walls, so I definitely like that idea for improving Peanut.
I had a second idea though, and this one would involve keeping the firepower reduction at half health: what if getting to that point added thorns damage like Endurian? After all, peanut shells can be really spiky when broken, and converting the damage like this preserves the idea of Peanut changing drastically through health states while also keeping the damage values similar across the board, instead of a severe damage reduction.

Problem is, the inherent roles of Peashooter and walnut conflict each other.
Peashooter is meant to be a long range plant, and can’t do well in short range due to his low health. Wall nut does his job well at close range due to high health.
By combining them together, you get a plant that forces close range engagement but also reduces firepower when health goes down

My idea on how to buff it is a bit of a big rework, I want Peanut to take two spaces at the same time, that way it can protect two spots really fast, and just like regular gameplay, you can lose half of the peanut but that won't be that much of a problem since it is not losing half it's fire power, and also makes an interesting dynamic were if you want to place something in it's place for a single lane then you have to disprotect the other lane.
I love the concept, it was the first gemium plant I ever bought, then regretted it because Peanut, so I want the concept to have a better excecution.

I thought up of a rework for how peanut works, and it involves two changes:
    - Peanut deals more damage the closer a zombie gets to it. This would make it more viable to place on the frontlines, as it can dispose of zombies with high health without being on life support by the time it’s defeated. It also makes you think about wether or not Peanut would be more effective in the front or middle of the lawn in a level.
    - Tapping on Peanut would cause the upper half to change direction and fire from the back, and the damage increases the farther a zombie gets to the lawn. This would make it a counter against zombies that can slip past its defenses (like if they’re carried by a dinosaur) while still being able to deal decent damage to zombies in the front

Peanut is kinda like the beta red stinger. Can be placed in both the front for defense as well as the back for offense. It’s not the best in either but combines both to save space. Because it adapts based on where it is on the lawn, it makes it far more viable for that niche. If peanut’s fire rate was better justifying why you’d have it in the back but worsens when taking damage as a defensive plant, I could see what they were going for. But like I said, red stinger fills that role.

i love peanut he's legit perfectly executed in terms of goofiness but he's unironically a great plant uses first of all he's good for putting in lanes where gargs throw there imps after all he is a tank and your likely not getting your hands on pumpkin till you finish the main game also another thing is that he cost gems and you can get him fairly early meaning that he's the lowest recharge for a wall for a good while until drastic marsh. Also his plant food is pretty good, basically giving you a free new peanut along with killing almost anything that's currently eating him. Now as for his weak damage it's better then nothing plus he's technically one of the cheapest straight shooters in the game at only 150 sun. now that may not sound like much of a benefit since the sun is so easy to get but that means combined with his decent recharge for a wall and semi low cost you can easily spam him and unlike durian the more peanuts you spam the more damage you get. sure peanut has no spot he wants to be at but he has no spots he DOSEN'T want to be at either plus he's pretty good for octo zombies sense if you have a peanut behind another peanut. peanut should not be used at a wall or a straight shooter he should be used like a more offensive inf nut because just like him he's not good on his own but benefits from numbers and peanut self synergizes with himself because he gives the other peanuts behind him more time to shoot down the zombies and the time you have a bunch of peanuts down your whole lawn is filled with expandable walls that act as slightly stronger peashooters. Also the issue with peashooters is that they take up space better used by stronger plants but peanut takes up space that is normally bad for straight shooters but peanut is bulky enough and cheap enough to be able to be placed near the front lines. Peanut is neither a wall or a peashooter but rather he's a slightly stronger peashooter most of the time with the hp of a walnut. Now the thing is dark ages SCREWS over peanut in so many ways from jesters and wizards but the world gimmick itself makes peanut spam harder. but he can work wonders in places like lost city where he can be placed on sun tiles while not risking any important plants and also if he's pushed forward by Excavator it doesn't matter. yes peanut is a failure when used as role compression but he is unironically good if your using him like you would use something like lighting reed or inf nut and to be honest peanut is just a better reed sense spamming him not only gives you more attack power but more defense incase peanuts damage wasn't enough but at that point the zombie is likely strong enough to warrant the wall part useful sense special's meant to counter walls get shut down by even low damage most of the time and even if they die you can just replace them. Overall, peanut is a good plant and reworking him to be a close range plant will just ruin his whole thing no matter where he's placed he's doing something.

The way I would fix Peanut, is just completly remaking the plant
    The Peanut Fighter
    Its a mele wall plant
    200 sun cost
    4000 hitpoints
    10 seconds Recharge
    20 Damage
    0.8 Firerate
    Close range
Special ability: If peanut fighter drops under half hitpoints, its firerate is increased to 0.6 and damage is increased to 30
This would make it a much better plant, making you want to place it infront to get value from the hitpoints, while also getting value from the ability
I increased the suncost because it would maybe be too op otherwise

Alternatively, with a slight boost to firing rate, it could be decent as a damage dealer that has enough toughness to hold the line as a final defender, until you can get something better back in, for in case a row gets overwhelmed by zombies.

Can you talk about Boom Balloon Flower?
I feel like that plant is too useless for me as it is too heavy on micromanagement compared to other plants lik Magnifying Grass, Coconut Cannon, Banana Launcher, etc.
It's reload time is too quick for you to pay attention, unlike Magnifying Grass, while has no reload time, is actually fine since it is tap to activate.
It is also annoying to use unlike Banana Launcher where its damage output is quite reliable while for this plant, you need to stack up balloons in one square to do decent damage. And oftentimes, those balloons explode too soon due to zombies coming in quick, or it just expires for not getting any of it.
And just planting this expensive plant is a waste of either a seed slot and/or plant space.
Waste of a seed slot because you could have used a better burst damage dealer, and wasted plant space because planting too many makes you too busy to use the plant, and waste a lot of space for dealing damage. Or just planting a few to mitigate that but you still have weaker lanes.

I think, peanut should get a higher cost reduction in leveling up, a cooldown reduction, and once it loses a head, its peas can penetrate 1 or 2 targets, now with reduced cost and time it can be used more as both pea and nut more simultaneously, and now you can chose between raw dps on 1 zombie by protecting the top head or weaker killing power but same dps by allowing it to be eaten.

Aside from shotgun plant, there's another way for it to work from my untrained eye that combines the roles even more.
Make PeaNut shoot nuts, and have them deal slight knockback. Nothing major mind you, but now you compress the roles even more as your wall now actively bunches up zombies as it shoots them, trading delay in zombies hitting the front line for less than ideal wall health when they do get to the front line.

You now have a repeater if you use it offensively, a peashooter with much more health or a wall that can attack enemies like endurian. His greatest strength would be his versitality

*Peanut Buff ideas: (apart from the ones discussed in this video)*
    1. When Peanut crosses from normal stage to degraded stage, create a 1000HP degraded peanut in next tile (of the same row).
    2. Wizard Zombie, Octo Zombie, Hunter Zombie, etc. would miss Peanut in its degraded stage the first time they target it and miss 50% of the time afterwards.
    3. Peanut shoots a burst of 15 peas when it crosses from normal stage to degraded stage.
    4. Peanut never degrades to begin with.
    5. At 2000HP degradation point, instead of losing one of its head, create a hole on top of peanut's head (which could look like Gumnut) which lets it lob peas along with shooting them.
    6. If you have a peashooter and/or a wallnut in your seed slot composition, peanuts will (deal 20% more damage and/or have 20% extra health) and recharge quicker by 1 second for each.
    7. Peanut deals extra damage to static objects like tents and gravestones.
    8. Peanut now has 40 second recharge time and for each peanut played, its recharge time is cut down by a fourth.
    9. Peanut costs 325 sun and subsequent peanuts cost 100 less sun. It eventually caps at 25 sun.
    10. When played, Peanut creates a "Gargbot" in place of the healthiest special zombie. Gargbots have the same ability as Gargantuar Prime but are weaker; they have the health of a regular zombie and they bite instead.
    11. Peanut costs 75 sun but suffers from 500 damage every 12 seconds.
    12. Plant Fooded Peanut is now as tall as a Tall Nut and can't be pulled by Fishermen or pushed by Mecha-Football Zombies.

I think an interesting take on peanut would be to make it like a threepeater but it shoots 2 shots, alternating up and down (maybe unless the bottom of top of its 3 lanes are empty) getting rid of its half health rebuff and giving it a interesting gimmick.
