The amount of talent in the band queen is unmatched. They were all masters at there craft . They all could sing they all could write music and they were all masters musicians. And as far as Freddie the amount of talent he processed as far as singing stage presence and the way he feels the music there will never be another Freddie. He was without any doubt the greatest frontman in rock history. Freddie could do it all. R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU WE HEAR YOU SINGING FROM HEAVEN GOD BLESS YOU
Brian actually wrote the song about a friend of his whose marriage was coming to an end. Freddie, who has an innate sense of how to project the emotions of the songs he sings, captured perfectly the moments just after a breakup the Brian was striving for.
Brian admitted not so long ago that he wrote the song about Freddie who was going through a difficult breakup. He did not say this at the time in respect to Freddie's privacy.
Brian's song about a friend's relationship breaking down. But Lord does Freddie pour his heart and soul into it. Brian on piano is beautiful and Freddie's change to the piano is split second perfect. Great melody line, Rogers vocals and distinct drumming, Brian the genius, Deakey's solid bass and of course Freddie the icing on the cake. Sheer bliss.
Brian admitted not so long ago that he wrote the song about Freddie who was going through a difficult breakup. He did not say this at the time in respect to Freddie's privacy.
Agree, sometimes a song is just a beautiful song, and can only be correctly analyzed by the author. Just enjoy it and don't work so hard to make it mean something that cannot be explained by the listener
Your dad is right, Brian DID write this song. But from a friend's perspective. About a divorce. It's not a personal experience. Nor is it about Freddie.
Best part of this video - Freddie and Brian changing places... Brian wearing his guitar AS he plays the piano. Also... the very first where Freddie walks over to begin on tempo with Brian. Love it!!
I love that live version. Raw and pure emotion. A break-up song from the perspective of the one who has been left, who is still in love and suffers badly. In my eyes the live version is even more beautiful than the studio version. It is also interesting to watch how they switch instruments. First, Brian on piano, switches within seconds to guitar, afterwards Freddie playes the piano.
I’ve always loved the piano and guitar in this performance but it just hit me how great Rogers drums are in this too. No wonder Brian refers to him as a musical drummer.
Love Queen as THE ORIGINAL 4!! They are/were all geniuses & their music is like fine wine & gets better w/time. Beautiful song!! The Game is my favorite album of all. Night at the Opera & The Miracle are #2.
The switchovers are awesome. It's interesting to see how different Brian and Freddie's piano styles are. Brians is so soft and Freddie has more attack.
I just found The Miracle video and you must, must, react to it. It is now my favorite Queen video!!! I challenge anyone to watch it without the biggest grin on your face for the entire time. It is absolutely fantastic.
Wonderful song & performance & reaction ❤️❤️❤️ Bri wrote it about a friend, he’s never inferred it was about Freddie. I’ve never listened to the studio version, but I think it’s much more orchestral. There are a number of great live versions. Their timing here is impeccable & Freddie’s vocals are perfect. The way he can interpret another persons lyrics has always amazed me. Their switch-ups were also fantastic. In general, Everyone wrote for “Freddie to sing”. I’m pretty sure the only non Freddie song is I’m in love with my car. Hope you continue with Queen!
Doesn't matter if it was written for Freddie or not. He was a lover. His life was constantly in turmoil as he had bad relationships throughout his life until the end. That's why he wrote about and could sing so wholeheartedly about love. He was searching for Somebody To Love. Nobody styled vocals like Freddie. Even using subharmonics. There will never be another like him. Perfection!! Love you Freddie!!
This is my favorite Queen song. This is followed by #2, Too Much Love Will Kill You. Both are 'rip your guts out' songs if you really listen to the lyrics and both written by Brian. Dad you were very close to being right, Brian wrote it about a friend going through a break up (I always thought it could be Freddie as well). There is no video of Freddie singing Too Much Love, etc. only audio because it was one of the last few recordings he did for the Made in Heaven album. However, Brian did do a video of it and even though his vocals will never match Freddie's it is very good and the raw emotion on his face when he sings it is enough to bring tears to your eyes. My understanding is he wrote it about the break up of his marriage. Lots of people assume it's about Freddie dying but not if you really listen to it. I'd love for you and Dad to react to it. Enjoying Dad being with you.
That song was written about one of Brian's good friends not Freddie. Love of my life was most likely written from Mary's perspective on the Break-Up. There is no doubt that Freddie loved Mary but if you really listen to this song it is coming from Mary's point of view not Freddie's

Hi there. No, it’s was about a friend going through a breakup but as you know life imitates art and visa versa. He went through it himself years later.
Hooray your father is with you again. I love your father's insight into the reason for Brian writing this song. It's great to see the two of you enjoying sharing with each other. Great reasoning by your father about Mary Austin.
This was from Montreal--Brian and Roger did a whole series of commentary on this concert and I have also seen an interview based on the official video. It’s fascinating to hear this commentary about band interactions and reactions-like how Freddie hesitates on one point, and Roger comments that he probably forgot the lyrics! This is my favorite Queen/Brian May song. From The Game. It was written for a female friend who was going through a breakup. It’s from the woman’s viewpoint.
Well, here's the thing. First of all, the two of you are great together. Second, I don't think there's just a single answer about the song's meaning. Sure, the inspiration from the artist's initial viewpoint springs from some specific context. But as Freddie pointed out, he liked leaving songs open to the listener's interpretation. And once a work is out there for public consumption, all kinds of interpretations can be made . And to me that's the fun of it. We each ascribe a certain meaning to a song based on what we think is the artist's intention was and, probably more importantly, how we each relate personally to a song based on our own experiences. I think you guys do a great job discussing what each of you feel is meaningful about this song.
The Album version of this fries my mind during the end of song Brian Solo, something about the resonances he did just stops my mind totally. This is one of the best live performances. Oh and yes it is a Brian Song.
No one knows who Freddie wrote Love Of My Life about btw. He never said. My speculation is that he did but for HER point of view. They didn't break up because she didn't want to be together anymore so the song wouldn't mske sense in that way. They broke up because he came out. And he had a boyfriend lol
