He weighs his rig loaded, then calculates how much weight allowance he has left. Let's say that in this example is 400 pounds. He calculates the weight of his diesel fuel per gallon which is usually a bit less than 7 pounds, but the weight isn't constant so go with the 7 pound high end number. Decide 7 into 400 and you get 57.14 gallons. So in this example you would want to put in 57 gallons. He puts in a couple extra if he knows when he gets to the scale he will have burned them off in time. Up to you and your current circumstances if you want to risk it, because you could get pulled over as soon as you leave the truckstop. I hope this helps.
It's a 2500 that was converted to a dually. I'm not under 26,000, I am right at 26,000. You need a cdl for 26,001 and above. Truck is 9,000 gvwr Trailer is 17,000 gvwr Total GCWR is 26,000. Most loads I do put me right at 25,500 pounds.
I have my personal pickup with a camper shell (California Registration, 07 ram cummins diesel) with a gwr of 10100# (curb weight 6415# dry) and a new bumper pull car hauler trailer that had the manufacturer rate at 9990# but was formerly rated at 17500# ( curb weight 5200# ,dual axle 8k with mega ramps and drive over fenders) because I'm in California but move my personal trucks and ranch equipment back and forth from out of state for non commerce ... how heavy of a truck and loads can I legally cross the scales with? I don't have any stickers m. I do have a second home in New Mexico (not my primary). I licensed non cdl in California as well.
I've got to ask, how do you run as a non CDL with a 3 car trailer hauling 3 vehicles with a dually? You have to be under 26,000lbs and I know your truck is near 10k, trailer around 5k and each car 3500 to 5000lbs. How do you get by like that?
Truck is 9000GVWR Trailer is 17,000GVWR With 3 cars I usually end up right around 25,000 to 25,500 gross weight. I always check the internet weight on cars before booking them. If you just randomly pick 3 cars without knowing the weight you can go over 26 easily. You just have to plan accordingly. The truck itself is a 2500 with a dually conversion so that's why it has the 9k gvwr. I took a rear axle, springs, and front oem spacers from a 3500. Never had issues with dot in the 5 years I ran that truck other than 1 inspection with an oil leak.
Hey Steve i'm not trying to be nosey but i am thinking about retiring and moving to Florida and am possibly interested in doing what you are doing. You didn't mention what the 3 cars paid? 26,000 pounds is the rating Truck 9,000 gvwr Trailer 17,000 gvwr Gives you 26,000 gcwr(gross combination weight rating) You then weigh the truck and trailer together. In my case, 15,500 pounds with no load. That means I can haul 10,500 pounds on the trailer pending I keep each axle under they're tire weight limit. As for the cdl b it's useless here because you can only have a 10,000 pound or less trailer if your truck itself is over 26,000 pounds. You need a class a or the class b is basically non cdl.
Combine the gvwr of the trailer and the gvwr of the trailer. Then subtract the real weight from the combined weight "rating". That's how much you can scale. Then you just need to keep the weight under each axle's rating.
9k gvwr on the truck but what is the cgwr? I bet you are over the manufacturer recommended towing weight. Not good when you get in an accident. Insurance companies love to find ways to not pay.

Class A - Combination over 26,000 inclusive to a trailer that is over 10,000 pounds
Class B - A single vehicle over 26,000 pounds with a maximum trailer weight of 10,000 or less
If you are under 26,001 pounds you do not need a cdl at all ever unless you live in California. Then you need a class a with restriction 88 if you're over 10k but under 26001. I do not recommend any Facebook groups either. They are full of the dumbest people you'll ever listen to.. There's also plenty of people in there ready to undercut rates. I stay out of those dumpster fires!
To bad the smart car is no longer sold you could probably take 5or6 on that 3 car trailer
Bro what kind of flip outs are those ???? Those are like 8’ long ………… scrapping as you drive …..
The flip outs are 34" long. I've only scraped them once
If it don’t grind it’s good so 🖕🏻you to the haters on floating gears ⚙️

I have a video on it
you actually didn’t pass a level one right
Paperwork says level 1. That's all that matters. It helps the csa score
