    I think on #2, the ref is calling the player for the leaning hold after the initial screen. He's blocked from view, but I believe the official is even indicating a hold, after he signals that it's offensive.

    Just an observation about #3. Clearly he backs into the defender after establishing position, but what if the defense had switched like they properly should have? Could that not be viewed as an offensive player establishing position against his defender?

      Not sure what you mean?

      @@OfficialsInstituteby defintion you can't set a screen on a player that's guarding you. So assuming the defense switches, at what point is that movement an illegal screen against another defender, or trying to gain position on your own defender?

    I’d like to understand why number 4 is illegal. One step I’ve understood to be enough space for a screen. Why 2 steps in this instance? Speed matters , how do we determine how fast is to fast?

      Distance allowed based in the speed if the player is completely up to the judgment of the official. Screens are tough calls to make.

    this one is tricky
    if you set a screen and leave space for the defender, you give him the choice to run into you at full speed max power and knock you down on the floor

      sorry english is not my first language. i mean say if you leave one step two steps for the defender, they take advantage of it to accelerate and drive into your body.
      thats why in any level of games what we will see is the screen is set right next to the defender. it makes less impact when the defender runs into you too. good for both sides and everybody understands it.
      leaving space for defender is legit thats how the rules written, you can make plays that way, but usually most of the time you want to set a good solid screen you just dont leave any space

    Play 4 looks like the screener throw his shoulder too. Definitely illegal at that point.

    Play 5 is an illegal screen. The offensive players feet were WAY beyond hIS shoulders.

      Where does the contact happen?

      @@OfficialsInstitute when both feet of the offensive screener were far outside the shoulders.

      @@kgerman1 It can't be a foul for an illegal screen if there is no illegal contact by the screener. IMHO, if the defender had run into the outstretched leg, then it would have been a foul on the offense. However, the defender just pushed the screener. Paraphrasing something a ref once told me, the opponent being in illegal position is not a license to kill.

    • @paulmayer8654
      @paulmayer8654 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jyutzler not only that, but the screen is against the guy that’s guarding him but trying to switch out. This might as well be like a guy trying to get post position on a player. Contact was already initiated at the body.
