I know I am Canadian and it might sound bias but I truly feel like we have some of the greatest bands ever ....The Hip.... Rush and many others bands that produced some iconic songs.
The greatest ROCK&ROLL frontman to ever walk this earth, backed by the greatest band...EVAH!!! Thanks, boys, for all the incredible music. RIP Gord - ROCK IN PERPETUITY!
A 1972 Kid here from Essex County Ontario.....The Best of Canada Ever...I'm so Tragically in love. I've been blessed to see them live multiple times. I even seen them in Toronto , at a small pub, they were called the Skinks
God bless Canada. Fuck, we rock!!!!!!!!! I miss you already Gord. God bless Rob, Johnny, Paul and Gord Sinclair. I won't ever forget your roles. Peace be with you.
I was at this show, half way back on the floors. First show ever at the KROC Centre. 12 of us made the road trip from Cambridge/Brampton/Toronto. I picked up Concertholic in Toronto, never met the guy before but knew him from Hipbase and offered to give him a ride to Kingston for this show. Epic night with police at our hotel , most of our party getting kicked out at 3am. 15 of us partying in a no smoking room and 12 of us smoking. $400 fine. EPIC Night of rock and roll.
One of my fav Hip tunes. Miss this band playing shows so much. Saw them many, many times. First time at the Misty Moon in Halifax. I couldn't believe what i was witnessing. I had been listening to their music but had never seen them live until that show.
saw the hip@ riverfest, on snl, n in Watertown. havn't been to a concert since. almost died once n was" locked in a trunk" for lil while but I WILL c them again..
although I pretty much love all The Hips songs, this is arguably my fave...that and Wheatkings, because I'm a good Saskatchewan farm boy...hearing what GD is up against, my heart, love and all the strength I can muster are being sent to he and his family. Unfortunately, I'm not a millionaire, so I don't think I'll be seeing their final tour, as the scalpers have pretty much made sure not many of the working class will be able to see them...we love you Gord...and just know, many of us children of the 90s, laughed, cried, and even lost our cherries to you guys...the scalpers can never take that from us....stay strong my friend....
I did watch them on SNL when Dan Akroyd introduced them. I just had never seen that video w Dan playing harmonic w them. That was so awesome. I do know that Dan is also from Kingston. I'm from Ogdensburg, NY; directly across the St.Lawrence river from Prescott, Not.
The Hip and Gord - genius. I remember the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto in 1986. I only wish they would play Put It Off live more often, one of my faves.
A moment I will never forget. 86th street Vancouver BC 1988. Tragically Hip is playing Blow at High Dough. An idiot in the crowd throws a beer at Gord Downie. He catches the beer and the crowd goes wild as the idiot is tossed. He caught the bottle and never missed a beat. Legendary. I will never forget that
Wasn't looking for live. I didn't find out about Hip besides "The Darkest One" until Gord died weeks maybe after John Dunsworth died, and my dog passed around the same time. Anyway I started checking out more and been a huge fan and feel such loss never could see them live, and to know every song I listen to and love and relate to so much is one less song I will ever hear. Lost all 3 of my aunts and my grandma to cancer in 5 years. Probably how I'm going to go in 20 years. Weird to feel kindred to someone who you shared so much time on the planet and so many similarities but you managed to completely miss each other, but press play and i'm there, Gordi is there, George Carlin is there, 2 Pac is There. John Dunsworth. Kurt Cobaine, mitch hedberg, lemmy, Chester, Scott Weiland, Johny Cash, and too many others to ever try to form a coherent list of. May you live on in the hearts of others through sound and video even if it is only by your loved ones. Leave your mark folks. We only get one chance. Love to all the people who fight and struggle and try to be good for the fuck of it because why not do it with syle and grace too.
Was this just after The KRock opened? I recall there were many years where The Hip just didn’t play Kingston due to the main venues being The Memorial Centre and Jock Harty arenas (iirc). Very old venues with poor acoustics.
I loved this band !!! what happened ? did the fans not evolve like Gord Downey wanted ? or did Gord Downey not evolve as his fans wished ? either way... sad . their earlier music I will take to my grave. as far as i'm concerned, their latest efforts have dug their own... sad.
1 half of the Blues Brothers jamming with the great Gorde Downie and The Hip! Man doesn't get any better then this!

You don't need any dance moves when your music is actually good

This is a Rock N Roll Band . . .
The only person I like to hear a harmonica from other than Dan is Neil. 'nuff said.
"Meow meow meow" - Gord Downie.

I'll bet that was the highlight of 'Danny Ackroyd's fucking life.
It wasn't his first time so, I doubt it.
