Top 3 fragrance for me. Nothing smells like this. FYI, Amouage now posted on their website the percentage of oils for all their fragrances and maturation/maceration time. Great video
This is one of my favorites of all time, and to me surprisingly versatile. Unique and strange, yes. But surprisingly fresh and likeable as well. I could wear this any day of autumn and winter, day or night, and even in the office with 2-3 sprays. For me it strikes a perfect balance of a sophisticated, sexy boldness that doesn't try too hard. I agree with your opinion on the cognac. Many reviewers talk about a dirty, sweaty pub smell but I don't get that on my skin. It's not boozy, it just has a cognac like sweetness and fruitiness that ties everything together. Perfect 10/10, tied with Dior Homme Parfum, Beach Hut, Interlude, and Royal Tobacco. (And possibly Journey Man which is still on my wish list)
Hey! seems like we have the same great taste, those are some of my favorites as well. I agree that this, especially in the air, is a lot more versatile than expected :)
Yess!! I have been waiting for this review. Thank you so much for making it. Yes this is a masterpiece. To me, its not animalic at all. But I understand why some people in the west may be repulsed by Overture man. I am originally from south east asia and this kind of scent is quite normal and acceptable in that part of the world. Its not considered animalic at all and people wear this kind of scent in the humid and hot environment lol. This is a 10/10 fragrance. Cant wait to wear it in the cold weather here in the UK. Plus my wife thinks Overture man is sexy!
I don’t get big animalic notes either, maybe the cumin? But I wouldn’t necessarily define that as animalic. If you go easy on the spray i think this could be worn also in hotter temps 🙂
No doubt Overture was created as a very special parting gift for the house of Amouage and its fans. Mr. Chong comes from a classic music background and he must have deliberately picked this name for the fragrance, symbolizing his departure, and a new act. In fact, he seems to stay true to his character, despite trends and standards, with the new Thameen releases. I'm impressed with the fact a British perfume house gave him free hand to go wild and create fragrances that don't necessarily align with the their previous releases. Thank you for this video, Daniel. Although I do not often wear it due to its versatility, I highly appreciate Overture and I consider it one of the more special Amouage had ever created, if not the most!
Christopher Chong looks like a really cool person from the interviews I’ve seen him in and he is not afraid of being real, talking about what inspires him. I would love to try his new Thameen creations but they are quite pricey. I’ll be definitely keeping on eye out 🙂
ok, forget tobacco oud, I remember it smelling much much better, it’s a great scent. I just opened the bottle from a sealed box does not smell as good as I remember it. Does not have a potent great opening like most of the amouage line. I’m getting epic 56 in the mail the original Interlude 2017. I’m thinking on getting Dior intense one of the Xerjoff fragrances one from Bond 9, I’m trying to decide between silver oud or King blue from Amouage, silver blue seems to have more expensive ingredients. I might get that one. I really want to smell angel share because it’s so hyped and talked about. I have tried a clone and it does not smell good at all to think the $30 will be as good as Andrew shares is a joke considering I already have the best of the best frequencies. I don’t need to try anymore. I’m looking at Guerlain they have some of the best ever created, probably will get overture again at some point that is got to be one of the highest compliment scents ever, still searching for the perfect scent one with a great opening great dry down that also gets compliments, have not tested everything enough, Naxos? Adventus? Overture? Interlude? Dior Homme intense, Xerjoff, Roja Apex is Adventus but even better, parfums de marly Carlisle is great. I might pick up a bottle. It’s really good. I have a great one from Mancera oud exclusive. Wow this one is great. I did not like it at first but now I love it getting oud lemon mint. I know some people say these ones are synthetic, but I want to give the house a chance. Hindu Kush, cedrat Boise, Sicily, jardin exclusive, vetiver sensual, amore caffe, all are highly. praised ones, who exclusive is great as sweet spicy fragrance made me very warm perfect for winter
@@jamiesmith3600 thanks for the extensive reply. Angel’s share is actually really good if not a little basic as a concept. Silver Oud smells really different from King Blue, it’s not just about the quality of materials; choose what you like more 🙂
I loved king blue the 1st time I smelled it, second time not so much I went to the same store, I will probably just get overture first again because I remember it being so good, and I also got a compliment last time I sprayed it, maybe because I have such high and niche right now. Tom Ford is not as good. I remember tobacco oud smelling fantastic. But the bottle I just opened is not fantastic. Great videos can’t wait to see what else the amouage house creates.
Incredible fragrance. Sometimes I love it, sometimes its animalistic notes repulse me. It's a bit of a love-hate relationship but that's what makes it so intriguing to me. The first time I sampled it I got goosebumps all over, not many fragrances can truly make you *feel* something like that. To me the grapefruit together with the 'sweaty' cumin and animal notes make this almost body odour-like. Sexy, but in a nasty way, if that makes sense. It is definitely more palatable in the air as opposed to smelling it up close though. Thanks for your insights!
Wonderful review. In my top 3-5 of all time too along with other favorites like Interlude 53, Oligarch (Isola Blu), Invasion Barbare, Safari Extreme, New York Intense (Nicolai), Tobacco Honey, Eucris EDP, Prada Luna Rossa Extreme, and Dhofar. Plum japonais is highly praised, but I just got a sample in was not digging it so much. It’s definitely tobacco oud vs plum japonais I have a full bottle of tobacco oud unopened. another long message haha, apologies if you dislike them, i just like the conversation! i tried this side by side one day after another with boundless recently, and i just had to go to ramses' overture video and comment on how i think they're both actually similar enough to me to be considered "cousins" - partly because i know he really dislikes boundless LOL. they are OBVIOUSLY not the same at all but i think Karine V.S. made 2 home-run scents based on a common theme of celebration but under two different intents of either having bold flamboyance or instead having elegant confidence. Both have fantastic openings with bold citruses, spices, varying levels of booziness, and resins -- with an element that drifts down into an equally satisfactory heart and drydown. Overture carries that cognac and cumin along a journey of citrus explosion into a signature amouage incense that lingers before settling on animalic but extremly smooth amber, while boundless carries a chewy elemi resin along with a blood orange and ginger bomb down a path of boozy and almost beeswaxy vanilla settling on a more medicinal dry tobacco and patchouli/papyrus. It makes sense for Karine V.S. of all people to do that while being tasked by Chong and then directly after Salmon respectively. It shows the two creative directors' difference in approach while still having a perfumer's comfort and signature at heart, which is a testament of a great perfumer and house i think. Just wanted to share some of my observations and thoughts with you; thanks for reading if you did! Cheers
@@ethanrrs thanks for the comment! I like reading long comments so feel free. I personally see very little resemblance between the two and Boundless’ citrus is quite faint to my nose.
