That’s interesting. Maybe they’re becoming more popular and accessible here. I like that my Tom Knudsen is the last camellia to flower for me and they flower well into May, so I have nice continuous flow of beautiful blooms before the roses come out to play. I want to learn how to propagate camellias too. That will be my next project.
I love how you get all excited with the flowers, I do the same all the time with my plants 😁I'm still waiting a little bit to change the pot on my camellias im still a little scared 😅

You could try and propagate some of the branches, after you’re done pruning. If you wanted more of the same variety or wanted to sell/trade locally in your areas garden groups. I’m also local to your area. 💚
Hi Lina, thank you for making these contents about camellias, I find your videos really helpful! May I pls ask for advice??? I bought a 1 meter Camellia Japonica in pot when it was full of buds ready to bloom, but I had it in my living room so all the buds just dried off without blooming, that was so heartbreaking. After that I took it outside on the patio covered in glass doors, but the whole plant seemed dried off, all the leaves are curled and totally dry. I don’t know if all the stems are dead as well. I haven’t pruned my plant yet. I don’t know what to do with it now. Should I cut all the stems & leaves out? That would leave only the trunk. Thank you for your help! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi! Thank you for your question. First, may I ask what USDA zone you live in? Camellias thrive as outdoor plants so if you’re in zones 8-9, it’s best to leave them outdoors. Some camellias are cold hardy down to zone 7 or even 6 I’ve heard although I haven’t personally tried. My garden in this video is in zone 8b, so quite perfect to grow camellias. Now I’m in Virginia which is zone 7a-7b, if I want to grow these, I’ll really have to look for varieties that are more cold hardy. Your problem might be that you brought it inside. I honestly don’t know or haven’t heard of anyone who can successfully grow camellias indoors all year round, not even inside a covered patio. I’m not sure why. My guess is that it’s too dry inside? Also, if you want to know if the plant is alive, try pruning 1-2 branches and look for any sign of life. Or simply scrape a branch. If you see some green then it’s alive. I would keep watering well and leave outdoors in a part shade area. If the inside of a branch all brown, then the plant is probably dead. I wish you the best of luck with growing camellias. If you don’t succeed this time, then don’t worry about it and try again. They’re so rewarding to grow! 🌸🌿☺️

Hi Lina I have a couple of big pots which need plant holder/caddy with wheels.I see your camellia pots sitting on the wheeled caddies.Where did you get them and did they stand the test of time?
Hi! I got mine from 2 places, Lowe’s and Home Depot, whichever store had a sale going at the time. Mine are metal with sturdy plastic wheels and they have lasted pretty good until now although the metal part shows some rust but they all still function nicely. They’ve been a lifesaver for me when I wanted to move my pots around!
Hi Lina, I am also looking for growing camellias in containers. I found your video, I am also from PNW. I am Planning to buy camellia japonica and sasanqua to have blooms in winter and spring. By the way I am from redmond, can you suggest which is good place to buy camellias.
Hi Sirisha. Congratulations on your choice to grow camellias. I think you’ll love them. I got my hands on these camellias from Lowe’s. (I live near Tacoma) Although I’m not sure if they’ll still have them in stock right now. Best time to go shop for camellias in person is late fall and winter. I bought mine in December and February (most people think Lowe’s garden center is closed during the winter months but it’s not!) My camellias were bred by Monrovia in case you were wondering.
