When I moved here to Zone 8B, 17 years ago from New England, a native said I HAD to buy a Camellia. Had no idea what they were, but I bought 2. Those 2 trees are enormous, at least 15 feet tall and twice as wide. One is in bloom now and the other will bloom later. The one in bloom is loaded with flowers and buds and has been in bloom for 3 weeks and looks like a huge pink flower. Easiest shrub ever!

I just moved to property in zone 9 southeast La 4 months ago. I noticed a huge sasanqua blooming at the border of the woods & I went in the woods today to clear out around it to showcase it & found a neglected camellia garden of 15 trees! This garden is probably 30-40 years old. I’m dedicated to restoring this beautiful garden and researching camellia care videos. Thank you for the info!

Thanks for talking about lack of buds and sun/shade issues. I have one that only has a few buds and I thought it was getting enough direct sun and then bright shade for the remainder of the day. Guess it just wants more sun. Finding more sun in my yard is impossible so I will enjoy the few blooms that I get and the beautiful shrub all year. Again, thanks Jim!

I finally got my hands on 3 white Shi Shi Gashira camellias and planted them about a month ago for my white garden under a river birch tree. I'm hoping they will get enough sun to have plenty of blooms. This is on the south side of my house in the front yard and here in zone 8B on the Gulf coast we get lots of reflected light. I recently added an extra irrigation source I can use during the real hot months of July and August to make sure the thirsty river birch doesn't keep the camellias from drying out too much.

There's mature 'Shishsi Gashira' in the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. It is pruned in an Asian style into a 'poodled' effect. Striking in bloom and gorgeous otherwise. A ten minute contemplation when I come upon it. It's in the Japanese Garden if you happen to visit. There is an enchanting collection of hundreds of other cultivars in their camellia garden.

Masaya Oya (大箭将也), also known as Camellia (かめりあ) or Cametek, is a producer of eclectic electronic music, largely using Vocaloid music back in his starting days.
Born and raised in Japan, most of his works are made of electronical musical elements, he has also used 初音ミク Hatsune Miku for vocals, most notable in “Systematic Love.” His most known electronic kind of song is with Nanahira (Another artist, female), “Can I Friend You On Bassbook ? Lol.”
Additionally, a number of his non-Vocaloid works have appeared in Konami’s series of rhythm games Bemani, and other rhythm games like osu!, Dance Dance Revolution and such. He created an official demo for VY2v3.
