I learned from a comment on this video on Reddit that apparently embroidery needles and cross-stitch needles are different! Cross-stitch are dull, embroidery are pointy. Who knew?
Loved this video! Check out perforated paper, too. Someone in my craft group just used it to trace a picture, then pinned it to fabric & used needlepoint to finish her project. It is gorgeous! The paper can be pulled off after that. Not sure if you have to soak it first. 😊
Great job! First I quilt, not much hand work, and I can’t assure you that my quilts aren’t finished until I bleed on them somewhere! Second, I have done free motion embroidery on a machine, several times. It’s a lot of fun, and not hard to get started with if you’re just brave. Go for it!
On a machine? That’s so cool!! Do you need a special machine for that? Also 🤣 I love the idea that your quilts have a little bit of you on them. It’s like sword lore where you bleed on it so it’s yours.
@@shainak The only absolute must - on a machine to do free motion embroidery is to be able to lower the feed dogs, so that you can freely move the fabric in any direction (the feed dogs ensure the fabric only goes forward and backward), and you may likely need a presser foot that has a spring, or a setting that only lowers the presser foot part of the way - again, the goal is to use you hands to move the fabric in any direction you need to 'paint' the pattern or design you want. People call it 'thread painting', 'free motion embroidery, etc. It's all basically the same thing. and a ton of fun.
I wonder if there's a way to make an embroidery kit but with something bigger than a needle; I think I'd love to start embroidery (love the coloring analogy) if only I didn't have to focus on not sticking myself all the time lol
Ok so I just ran into a friend who crocheted a square and then used a darning needle (not sharp) and yarn to crossstitch, using the single crochet as the grid!! Maybe that’ll work??? 😂
Enjoy the first full video I made since my surgery! Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts!

Ooo that sounds great! I'll have to try it!

@@shainaka lot of sewing machines (at least more expensive ones) have a free hand embroidery mode

@karenlefkowitz2007 wow that’s amazing!! I’m going to refer back to this a ton!!
Love the mushrooms on your first one.
Thank you!!!
Didn’t see it glow when you said subscribe, but I’m sure Donna will be glowing when she gets her cross-stitch!
Hm well you’re already subscribed, so maybe it’s only when you’re not subscribed. Please don’t test that theory though 🤣🤣🤣

Hm that’s a good question!! If there are any other embroiderers on here, please give your suggestions!!
