    A common mistake students might make is to count the total no of electrons first (14) and then take the orbital energy order as PI2p then sigma2p like in N2. Important to notice that 16-2 and 14 electrons to begin with give different configurations

    I think O2 (2+) should have 10 electrones. This would be a case if we had O2(2-)

      Wtf No . O2 (2+) will have 14electrons

      @@blueblood-_- O2 molecule has 12 VALENCE electrons. When a molecule loses electrons it becomes more positive, hence if it loses 2 electrons it becomes (2+) so it has 10 electrons. (2+) is a symbol of charge, not a symbol of how many electrons a molecule has gained, because I think that a plus sign is confusing you

    I was thrown off by the total number of electrons instead of the number of valence electrons. However, it turned out the same excluding the 4 electrons in the 1s level. Thanks!

    Bro 14 electron species means 2p energy level start with pi 2p=pi 2p I think this is right as this is 14 electron species. You can check n2 diagram also
