this is just a great information! my late son-in-law mainly wore polos with collars, so this tutorial gives me clear ideas how to cut them and incorporate collars into the memory quilts I am making for my grandchildren. Thank you!
Thank you Lisa. You saved me! I have 2 mini Kiwi rugby jerseys to include in memory quilts and I had no idea on how to include the collar in the front of the shirt as I made them into blocks. I watched your comprehensive video and made 2 in an afternoon.
Thank you so much! For helping me find a way to make a quilt for my grandson. His grandfather pass and I had no idea what to do for him to help him in this transition of his life. Ones again thank you so much ☺️
aweeee, I'm sorry for the family's loss :( I really do think the quilt will bring so much comfort, and I'm glad these videos have been helpful for you!
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I have just finished making a memory t-shirt quilt and I couldn't be happier. I watched your videos as I had never even used a sewing machine. The fact I used my baby girls clothes makes it even more special. Thanks a mill 😁
This popped up this morning for me to view and i am EXACTLY at a point that I am doing this same thing. Thank you for the ideas ! I have some thoughts to add to it but this has been such a much needed source for me to do a shirt with buttons and I want the collar, too ! Thank you for sharing this video!!
Love this idea I am working on some memory pillows from shirts this week I would love to try this in them thanks for the video instructions, I am a visual learner
A wealth of helpfulness! Thank you Lisa! I’ve got my first t-shirt quilt on my design wall! The gridded paper I bought from your Etsy shop is incredibly helpful!!!🌹
Hi Kris, anytime I quilted a quilt that included buttons, even after I got robotics on my machine, I always did hand guided quilting to avoid those areas. Last year though, I upgraded the software (QuiltMagine) to the Gold Card, so now I can still use the robotics but include an eclipsed area to avoid going over things like buttons, zippers and such :)
Thanks Viv! My iron is a Black and Decker from Wal-mart, I don't know the exact model #.......however...it's the purple one with the extra long cord :)
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead I might have a bit of trouble popping to Walmart from the UK. 😂. I'll probably be able to get one online. I love that shirt block and how clear the details are as to how to do it exactly. ❤
thank you Lisa...one day i will do a t-shirt quilt the only draw back is that i hate cutting them up...hahahahaha...did you find a placement for the collar chain? the logo with the chain is awesome...hmmm maybe in a journal...hahaha
I never did find a "good" place to put the chain on the quilt. I think once you make your first t-shirt quilt.....YOU WILL LOVE IT, and cutting the shirts won't seem so bad hahaaa
Uhhohhhhh :) well, you could pull it to the front and finish it that way...orrrrrrr.....pull it all out and re-sew. I feel your pain as I've done the same!
Lisa Capen Quilts good morning dear friend. I took your advice and pulled it all out! I was so hoping there was a better alternative.😫 so glad I have you to set me straight! Thanks so much (again)!
Hi Nancy! I have a friend who makes t-shirt quilts and she gets pillow cases from thrift stores and stuffs the scraps into those to make doggie beds for shelters :) I use mine to stuff little pillow projects like this: th-cam.com/video/LEFS-1Nzs6ct/w-d-xo.htmlhey also make great cleaning rags :)
Hello Lovely!!!!! Hope you are well :) I always keep the same 1/4 inch seam allowance no matter the garment. You could certainly use a desired seam allowance, but I wouldn't do anything less than 1/4 :)
Lisa Capen Quilts I’m fine and hope you are doing great. I just finished a T-shirt quilt with a lot of heavy football shirts and sweatshirts. I used a scant 1/4” but think next time I will use the full quarter. Very bulky in the seams. I had a problem with my Pellon P44 sticking in places. I’m very careful with ironing it on. I used muslin over it when pressing, maybe I’m just not leaving my iron on it long enough. I will post 2 of my T-shirt quilts I’ve made on your FB page so you can see. Thanks to you! You have helped me so much. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart! ❤️
I did not press the shirt before separating the front from the back. I do all of my pressing when adding the interfacing. I think you certainly could press it before :)
Fantastic, so neat and great tips and suggestions, thanks. Please be careful, you have a tendency to put your fingers in front of the presser foot, I had done that and sewed my finger...ouch.
you are the best teacher, thank you Lisa, i learned a lot
Fantastic demo. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Thank you, Lisa. I made a memory quilt from my late Daddy’s shirts and used your method/tutorial. Couldn’t have been more pleased!

This is a great video and helpful as I attempt to make a quilt from a soldier’s fatigue shirt. Thanks

that was awesome!! Thank you so much!!!!
Excellent, very helpful video, Lisa. Thank you.
So glad to pass along the tips, thanks for watching Bonnie!
Also save the buttons from what you cut off you can use them for embellishing the quilt or for other things.
great tip Patrice!
Lisa do you remove your buttons before longarming ? I run with robotics so that has been a concern of mine.
Thank you!! Great video ♥️🧵🧵

Another great tutorial. 😊That's a neat iron you have there as well

This is great! What size seam allowance do you use when sewing your blocks together? Thank you!
I use a 1/4" :)
lots of great tip awesome thanks so much

I have also taken the crew neck of a shirt with no design. Looks pretty cool,
That does look really neat as well, thanks for sharing the tip Patricia!!!
WOW! Interesting. Would have never thought of this. I would have just said that's not possible. Lol
glad to pass along the tips :)
Nice work. Thank you.
thank you Martha!
Lisa, I glued all my binding down and realized I had accidentally sewed it to the back, not the front. What do I do now? Sometimes I just don’t think!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news hahahaa......but I think you'll be happy once it's all together! Glad I could help out
What do you do with the scraps left from cutting up the shirts? Is there a way to reuse them for something else?

Good morning my long distance friend! I forgot to ask when sewing sweatshirts what seam allowance do you use!

You are right, I have a habit of doing that! I appreciate the feedback, thank you soooo much!!
My kids would put all kinds of snacks in the pocket
hahaha.....I could see washing the quilt and melting some chocolate in the dryer hahahaa.
Why not just use the whole neck line, a d remove whats not needed.
I'd love to see if you've done that, how it turns out :) sounds like a good idea
