you make it look very easy. I'm new to quilting...Have only done 4 t-shirt quilts..no other quilts. All have been collage/mosaic style as I have been intimidated by all the sashing. Gonna give it a try. I've been binge watching all your videos. Thank you!
This was a fabulous video showing a quick way of making and adding the sashing’s and cornerstones! I’ve learned so much from you in just this one video! Thank you!
WOW. My mind was blown several times during this video. From the glue basting (WHAT???? Game changer!!) to the way you fold the quilt on your table as you go along to the way you efficiently cut your sashing and cornerstones. This is applicable to not only Tshirt quilts but ALL quilts. Thank you for sharing this awesome information, Lisa! You rock!!
You aren't redundant. Seeing it done several times helps me see what you are doing to get the end result. Too many tutorials show it once and then speed through the steps. You have interesting insights that come from experience and I appreciate that.
My mother was an avid quilter but she sadly passed away before I had the chance to learn from her. You remind of her and your tutorial is so helpful. Thank you for making these videos for beginners like me!
This is a great video. I made my first t-shirt quilt three years ago for my oldest grandson and watched your video for the first time and now will be starting his brother's graduation quilt. I watched it again to refresh my mind. I was hesitant about gluing so I didn't the last time but I plan to glue this time. Thank you so much.
Lisa, brilliant/ your method of applying interfacing on the back of the t shirt and then cut it down so that your not stressing about getting glue everywhere and your blocks are going to be perfect 👌 lining up the corner stones perfectly- sewing your rows perfectly/citing multiple interfacing at the same time-thank up for being so generous in showing how you do things, I sew 🧵 enjoy your teachings xxx
Yes you were a great help. I missed the smashing material. Was that also t shirt material. The gluing was a great idea. I ve been seeing more of this, to think Elmer’s is so usable. You are a great teacher❤️
This video inspired me in so many ways. I just finished my first ever t-shirt quilt using some of these methods- adding sashing and using glue basting to help keep everything together. I used small logos from my shirts for my cornerstones. It turned out really well. Thanks so much for this tutorial!
Thank you for all the great info! I finally made my 3 girls t-shirt quilts! I’ve been saving t-shirts for many years. I’m so happy with how they came out❤
Thanks for this! Been some time since I've sewn (kids, life, forgot to do things I like to do 😑) so I'm coming back to it starting with making a t-shirt quilt. This tutorial was extremely helpful and made me want to get started on mine the second I finished watching!
Thanks loads for this very clear tutorial. I’ve done lots of quilting, but not for tee shirts. Ugh! I haven’t even wanted to try! Now I may have changed my mind. This was a very handsome and harmonious tee shirt quilt. I actually surprised myself into liking it.
Lisa, I made my first tshirt quilt this summer. I could not have done it without your fabulous videos. The Creative Crew...your group just makes me happy. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Carol
WOW! I think I can do that. Going to clean out my T-Shirt drawer and give this a try. I now see what you are talking about with the glue basting. Thank You So Much!
I love your methods and that you explain & clarify so beginners can understand everything you're talking about. I'm making a memoiral quilt of my MIL of my husbands concert, tie dye & sports t-shirts, some date back to the early 80's. I have made pillows cloths curtins and baby play mats but nothing this scale or this important. Hubby was the town Santa who everyone lovingly called Jerry Claus. My MIL & I made his costume and I want to add some of the faux fur but I'm not sure if that is possible with two very different materials. Should I try making a small quilt so I dont mess up his shirts and the Santa fur? Also do you have a supply list for beginners on a tight budget? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
This is an amazing tutorial! You are a great teacher! Very thorough! thank you so very much for not making it look scary! You are very good at what you do! Thank you!
Lisa, I have made a few t-shirt quilts and they turned out sloppy. Your tutorial really helped me organize and made the sashes and cornerstones so much easier. I just finished a the front of a quilt and it looks soooo much nicer. Thank you so much for your knowledge!
I can’t wait to make a sashing quilt after following your tee shirt quilting videos and making a tee shirt quilt without sashing. Love all of your videos!❤️
I love the way it looks. You did a fantastic job and I love the sashing. I like the way they can give definition. I've been trying to get a laptop bag finished for my mother and then get my quilt started. I was working on pouches for the koalas and kangaroos but they now have enough. The good thing is I have plenty of fabric left over to do other things with. It's the plush flannel and so very soft. Thank you Lisa. 💗💗💗
This was a great T-shirt quilt tutorial! I’ve been wanting to try one and I’ve watched a lot of these...this was by far the best one I’ve seen! Thank you!
I totally agree with you, Sis Carmichael! I’m a newbie and I want to make one of these! Thank you, Lisa. You’re a great instructor! One question I have is: what fabric do you use for the cornerstones and sashing? Is it quilting cotton or knit like the t-shirt fabric? Thank you .
100% agree. Ever since a contractor I recently worked with found out I have a long arm and I make quilts--just a beginner on the long arm--they have told me they are going to have me make them a T-shirt quilt. I am actually looking forward to it after watching this video. It answered several questions I have had. I have added this to the top of my list for Video I must watch again and again. Thank you for all the tutoring you provide to us all.
Wow! Perfect timing. I have been thinking about making a t-shirt quilt just this week with some old BMW Motorcycle t-shirts I have. I have never quilted anything yet and this video has given me some good direction. I'll be checking out your other videos now too. Thank you!!
I loved this video. I’m taking my first T-shirt quilt class this weekend. Now I wish I had seen your video first! You are a great teacher and you don’t blab on and on!! Question: what kind of fabric do I use for my pressing cloth? Just cotton? Question 2: What size is your table? Question 3: what is the gray fabric on your wall? How do you attach the quilt to that gray fabric? How did you attach that gray fabric? Or is it paint? Thanks so much! Vicky LS
Hello Vicky!! For my pressing cloth I use a cotton pillowcase. I separate the front from the back and make two pressing cloths from one pillow case. Cheap and easy!! The size of my table is 48" long and 24" wide. Check out my channel on how I made my design wall :) Easy way to find the video is by going to TH-cam and in the search box type: Lisa Capen design wall. It's foam insulation bought from Lowe's or Home Depot, covered in a grey flannel sheet. Fabric just clings to the flannel, or you can use pins.
I really love your technique...my daughter has asked me for one of these using her old Cheer t-shirts...I did not even know how to begin...you are a great instructor. Now I am not afraid to get started. thank you!

I love your finished quilt! Awesome job. I can't wait to use your gluing technique on my next quilt. I'm getting the materials together as we speak. Thank you so much for posting your vlogs, I have learned so much from you just in the past 3 I have watched. Some people say to glue it adds another step, but not if they have to do all the extra stuff you have to do to get your sashing to line up. Thanks again!
Why do you put the glue and then you sew the Sashing. ,please? I am intrigued. You really go a very good job out of the logos from T-shirt’s. This is a new craft for me . Very interesting ?

Hello Lisa! I have watched this one video over 100 times over the pass seven months. I finally mustard enough courage to try to make the Sashing and cornerstone T-shirt quilt, well I’ve been working on it since November and is almost completed I have this one important question to ask how do you bind a quilt with shushing and cornerstones? Thank you ,for your help Lisa.
Hi Belle, I'm so glad this video has been helpful for you in making your t-shirt quilt! I have a few binding videos here on my channel that will help, and there are also a ton of other creators that have terrific binding videos. You'll bind this quilt just like any other quilt. All along the edges of the quilt you'll have an extra 1/4" that leaves the space for the binding, so that your sashing and cornerstones along the edge of the quilt still finish the same as the rest :)
Hi Lisa. Love your teaching! Your videos are so helpful and easy to understand! What is the height of your table that you cut on just fabric or when you're squaring up your quilts before binding them.
Thank you for your very thoughtful quilting videos. For a timid seamstress, these are a so helpful. I've made 3 T-shirt quilts - all fabricated differently. This last quilt with sashings and cornerstones has the most visual appeal.
Hi Kristy :) Because I have other videos that show that process, in this video I only focus on adding sashing. Here is a playlist where you can find other videos showing how to complete a t-shirt quilt: th-cam.com/play/PLbK4Frmd7S5d45Hs94CYJB5650GWPjWt5.html
Hi Lisa! Do you have any videos of how you did the backing of the quilt and the "quilting" of the quilt when you were done to keep them adhered together so when washing and drying they don't come apart over time?
I’m going to be embarking on my first T-shirt quilt. I’m super nervous. I’ll be watching your videos again and again to get comfortable. I’m also in the market for a heat press. Which one did you purchase?
I think you are going to have so much fun making your quilt! If you have questions I'd love to help! This is the heat press that I got: amzn.to/2GfJ5F6
My brother recently passed away and I had an idea to make a tshirt quilt out of all of his Harley tshirts. Found your video, which gave me inspiration. Now I’m making 4 - one for me, my sisters and mom. Love your teaching style! Easy to follow and understand, especially for a newbie quilt maker!! Question - I am using (stealing - thank you very much!! ) your orange/black sashing/cornerstones to divide up all of the black shirts. How did you finish/bind this particular quilt?? Thanks much!!
I quilted this quilt with an edge to edge panto, then used black fabric for my binding :) So glad the videos were helpful in the quilt making for you!! I am so sorry to hear about loosing your brother :(
@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead My backing is a tone on tone black/dark grey and I decided on black binding last night. Thanks for the inspiration!!! BTW - I saw your video (can’t remember if it was in this or another) about moving the needle over to use the foot edge instead of trying to use one of the small lines as your straight edge. That was a huge head slap! After all of my years sewing, I can’t believe I never thought of that!!!
Great job Lisa. Am getting ready to start one for my granddaughter. Can you advise me on what kind of fabric I should use for the sashing and corne r blocks. Should it be cotton? Thank you
Thanks for watching! Don't you love the look of sashing on your quilts!!??

I’m also in the market for a heat press. Which one did you purchase?
I think you are going to have so much fun making your quilt! If you have questions I'd love to help! This is the heat press that I got: amzn.to/2GfJ5F6
For some reason it does not show which one you got😔 the link does not work
My brother recently passed away and I had an idea to make a tshirt quilt out of all of his Harley tshirts.
Very good tutorial
Great video - love the idea of using glue - have shirts
face and cut now for the sashing
sounds like you are on your way!!! Have fun creating and thanks for watching :)
This was awesome! Thanks so much for the tutorial!
You are so welcome!
Great job Lisa. Am getting ready to start one for my granddaughter. Can you advise me on what kind of fabric I should use for the sashing and corne r blocks. Should it be cotton? Thank you
