    That reground nib writes elegantly, despite i do not appreciate M sized nibs.

      I tend to avoid M nibs too. I much prefer usually a B - but this is just glorious to use. I love the fine lines mixed with the fatter downstrokes.

    After thousand or videos, finally I find someone who thinks like me. I am obsesed with cutted nibs, like italic or stub. Meanwhile major of people is thinking exclusively about the pen, for me the important thing is the nib. It is very difficult to find an italic nib. I consider that with italic nib the writing is much better, more elegant, and more funny. So, finally a person who explains very well the benefits of a italic/stub nib.

      Welcome aboard! Yes, I cannot disagree with you. I much prefer nibs that show a bit of character, and for me a stub or italic is much better than a standard. Just waiting to get my hands on a new flex nib, which I am hoping will be even more interesting!

    Hey Mike, sorry for the nerve problem. The good news is that there's a solution! I have'm in my neck, having broken 2 verts in a head on collision. ;-) Of course an operation in the neck I'll try to avoid at all costs! on a happy note, I haven't even seen any change in your writing. I love my Conway Stewarts. All because of you, lol, I ordered 2 (so a second one after falling in love with the first) Winston Churchill (one of my heros) heritage with left OM nibs. They are truly so perfect for my writing. Their work is truly flawless, the pens are pieces of art! I'm left handed and a very clumsy overwriter but these nibs are a joy to use for me. It was a big departure from my decision that I wasn't going to buy any cc pens as I hated their very limited ink quantity. Well, they are my only ccs and I don't regret it one bit. I love them! I have the "Victory at all costs" in blue and "Action this day" in burgundy, beauties really! So thanks to your"costly" influence on me lol Hope your week goes super well with your tours!

      Thanks for the comments, Louis. I can only say that I'm very fortunate never (yet) to have damaged a vertebra, but it's really frustrating to have my hand cease to function for no apparent reason! At least, I'm glad to say, it doesn't seem to be early onset of Parkinson's or a sudden warning of diabetic problems - so at least I only have to wait for the consultant to get back to me.
      I'm like you. I don't like CC pens - generally. But now I'm learning to love the idea of them and to have a pen that requires a regular refill. It's great to be able to change inks more often - and CS pens are fabulous to write with.
      Cheers!

    I am too sorry for your problems in your arm.
    I do hope that you get well very soon, despite the fact that going into a surgical operation does not seem very nice, though.
    Regards.

      THanks, Raoul - if an operation can fix it, I'll gladly wander into the hospital. Just waiting to hear what the potential risks are.

    Sorry for your hand. I do feel somewhat the same with a "Frozen Shoulder". However, I'd love to have your handwriting. Being lefthanded and still prefer fountain pens can be a challenge with guzzlers. I've had my share of very coloured left pinkie in addition to smeared out written text.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do it! I've a brother who's left-handed too, but he just writes with the hand at 90 degrees to the paper and never gets a smudge.

    I have never used an italic nib. I enjoy lone variation and have found a Pilot Soft Fine nib on a Custom 743 works extremely well.
    I will look at italic nibs in the future.
    It sounds like Edison
    Pen Company will do the same as Conway Stewart in terms of service.
    Thank you for your review.

    Hope you feel better soon with your hand Mr. Jecks!
    CS is still making the Winston so they should be able to replace the cap. However, since the new Dartmoor resin has a different color, the cap may not match exactly.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that is my fear. But if so, I'll be happy with the main part of the cap as the original, and only the mid-section between the two gold rings as being replaced (if that's possible!)

  • @xjsteve
    @xjsteve 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Shame about your rather special CS Winston fountain pen cap Michael. I own the same pen but in classic brown marble resin and experienced the same fate of the cap breaking between the cap rings. Bespoke British Pens made me a new cap using the same resin and the original gold cap rings and it is perfect. The gentleman at BSP are really helpful and obliging. So rest assured, your special pen will live again.

      BBP are a really excellent company, and I've always found them really helpful. I know from other customers that they will always go that bit further to make sure their clients are happy - as they've demonstrated with this new nib. It's just glorious! With luck they can match my resin. I just hope so!

    Wow, I'm sorry your arm's nerve is malfunctioning! I hope it is fixed soon. Also, I'm sad your pen broke. I take my favorite pens with me all the time, you have to! You never know when inspiration will strike! There is a vitamin that helps with healing nerves and nerve sheaths, Alpha lipoic acid. It won't unjam a nerve, but it might help you recover faster after surgery. It sounds like your nerve may have either fluid pressure on it or a bone spur. If it has fluid pressure you might be able to pop your elbow and relieve it. You could go to a chiropractor and ask about that. If it was a bone spur, a few pills of real coral calcium would take it away. Oddly, regular calcium seems to cause spurs, but coral calcium has trace minerals that stabilize and reroute calcium to the proper places. It has reduced a spur on my knee three times, and once on my foot. I don't take coral calcium unless I get a spur because too much alcohol of any kind can create kidney stones. Whatever your case may be, I truly hope it is healed quickly and painlessly.

      Thanks for that, Gristle. It's a really odd thing. I've no idea what the cause is, yet, so won't take any possible cures until I've heard from the consultant, but it's good to know that there are cures for the two possible issues. Sigh. Just a pain!

    I'm so sorry to hear of you nerve issue and hope you get it fixed well enough soon.
    And, the breaking of your Detectives pen... heart rending!
    That Drake is gorgeous! Not for me though, I'm a simple Yeoman and that is a Gents pen!
    Yes, Conway Stewart nibs are amongst the best with which I have ever written.
    My writing is not so large. Do you think a Medium nib re-ground as a stub would add a little style? Or would it perhaps be a pointless exercise?
    Take care and thanks :)

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to admit, Kevin, I love stub nibs because they add just a little extra character to your writing. I am thinking about having the Drake's nib reground for that very reason - nervous, too, though. It's a gold nib that's been covered in rhodium to match the pen, apart from the triangle where the CS emblem sits. I love that nib and would hate to see it damaged while being ground!

    • @kevinu.k.7042
      @kevinu.k.7042 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@writerlywitterings Thanks for coming back. Yes, you made a strong point in favour of stub nibs in your video. I have been trying out different nib thicknesses on my tablet with a stylus. It could just be the thing for me. I've decided to do some handwriting improvement training first. Sasson & Briem. The first part of the book was simple and made a huge difference.
      Well, I'm sure you know C.S. use one of the best nib smiths in the country. I've forgotten the name for a moment... age! Though I can understand your nervousness with a plated nib. Good luck!
      And, thanks for the great tutorial. :)

    I'm very sorry about your fingers. I have the reverse problem. The fingers on my writing hand are almost frozen, but in the position that I hold a pen. This means my writing isn't affected. In fact, it's letting go of a pen that's difficult. The good news is that because my fingers are like this, my hand doesn't get tired from holding a pen. I can't not hold one once I slide it into position with my other hand. Of all the problems I foresaw coming with old age it's these weird ones that I never could have imagined that seem the most annoying.
    I can't say I'm fond of stub nibs, but it's only because I enjoy using flex nibs. A flex nib takes more practice, and for me more constant concentration, but I love the way writing looks when you get it right. Unfortunately, I can't find a gold flex nib that really does the job, but FPR has some wonderful flex nibs at remarkably low prices, even when you buy a matching feed.

      Sorry to hear about your own problems, James. As a friend said, getting old isn't for the faint-hearted! I would love to try out a good flex nib, but I have the issue of finding one at a very reasonable price that won't make me choke! FPR? I'll have a look and see what they do. Many thanks for that.
